Due to the game graphics its pretty obvious she's a female from the first time you meet her. If it turned out she was a man, I'd have been shocked. It actually took me a while to realise she was disguising herself as a male.

Yeah I kind of suspected she was female as soon as I saw her. How many men have purple hair?

Anyway I have to go with Terra/Tina. Several other characters deserve mentions, but Terra is first by a long shot. Drake summed up a lot of what makes Terra so appealing. For the rest, I'll just repeat a post I made last year:

Definitely don't need to think about this one at all. It's Tina Branford. Despite being the opposite gender I identified with her as soon as the game started, and continued identifying with her character arc throughout the entire game. Her arc from shy, confused ex-slave of the Empire to self-sufficient distributor of justice is a wonder to behold, and one of the factors I like most about the game. She's a very complex character whose arc is handled in a completely believable fashion, and the issues she has to cope with throughout it are matters that nearly every human being has to deal with at some point in their life (and if they don't, I'd have to wonder whether they even have a conscience). And her character theme is just marvellous. Suffice it to say that if there were not a Tina Branford I probably would never have gotten as wrapped up in this series as I did.

@gameplay discussion, Joker Doom is seriously broken (though breaking it is pretty complicated). You can one-shot almost every enemy in the game with it. Of course you can also one-shot enemies with Vanish-Death (though in Advance this doesn't override their immunity like it does in the SNES version), but Joker Doom doesn't even take any MP. The only other character who rivals Setzer for how broken he is is Gau. Even without the Wind God Gau glitch, if you use his Rages correctly you can absolutely decimate enemies way before they should be that easy. Stray Cat and Retainer are particularly recommended Rages.

this video may be more helpful when it comes to joker doom

I've tried to "get" Final Fantasy VI so many times - I must have started five different games now, across multiple platforms - but I just can't. I feel sad because everyone says it is one of the truly great FFs, and I feel like I'm missing out, but for some reason I can't motivate myself to play it so much. I know it's a bit shallow to say this, but I'm sure I would love it if it were remade.

Don't worry. The first time I played through FF6 I hated it. The downgrade in the graphics was hard to get adjusted to, and some of the puzzles and dungeons were really difficult, Zozo had me lost and pulling out hair for ages xD And oh goooood the Floating Continent was even more hard and confusing and the increase in the monster difficulty just made things even more frustrating.

Though the point is, people's tastebuds change over time, so don't worry about not liking FF6 because it might connect with you one day. c: I still hate the Floating Continent each playthrough though xD

Anyways Locke Cole, Locke Cole, Locke Cole, Locke Cole, Locke Cole, Locke Cole, Locke Cole, Locke Cole, Locke Cole, Locke Cole, Locke Cole, Locke Cole, Locke Cole, Locke Cole, Locke Cole, Locke Cole.

<3

Terra, Celes, Setzer and Edgar are second placed draw though. And Leo, dammit he's so awesome.

Terra, Tina, Miss Branford, The Girl Who Pilots The Magitek Armor, The Girl Who Transforms Into The Esper With The Hot Ass, The Esperkin, and any other nickname you like. IMO one of the best characters in the franchise, deep characterization, lovely design, awesome battle skills, and a shadowy counterpart to Kefka, serving as an example that she could become just as emotionally detached and power-hungry as he is. The best hero-villain pairs are when one represents what the other one could or might be in another life, and with Terra especially it underscores how far she comes, that she's on the edge of becoming just like Kefka and then finds something to ground her and make her a true hero.

But tell us how you REALLY feel, Drake.

Celes, it's not even a question. Haven't played the game in years but just her name reminds me of how much of a BAMF she is.

Here's to the first female warrior in FF and the stepping stone for all future great female fighters.

Do Archers not count as warriors now?
Because I'm damn sure pirate captains DO, and LEILA's first at that.
FF2, folks.

I think Faris was technically the first female warrior but I could be wrong since I have not played much of that game. That said Celes is truly an awesome character.

Again, Leila. Or even Maria. And Rosa 'Best archer in Baron' Farrell. And Faris 'I be a mighty pirate' Tycoon.

So, no, not the first. But she was a general in the armed forces, which is a first.

This is the first Fave-Characters vote I actually can't decide. It's very much a toss-up between Locke and Celes. And Edgar. And Setzer. And Shadow. And Kefka. I can't eliminate any of those.

I thought it was pretty obvious sarcasm :P

re: female warrior - I believe the OP on the subject meant "warrior" as in the job class. As in uses a sword, warrior class abilities, etc. In which case, Rosa isn't, and being a pirate lady doesn't necessarily qualify a character as a warrior.
