Well, I haven't read the books, so I couldn't comment. I've been busy reading crap adult paranormal romance. :awesome: Oh, and Neil Gaiman.

If anyone needs me, me and Neil will be hanging out with the Dream King. :neo:

That sounds...interesting...and creapy.

Howl, you are technically wrong on vampire reproduction- it can happen, like with vampires and sunlight, but it's always done in higher fantasy settings which allow bending of the rules, and not because the vampire is a jizz freezer.

In Bram Stoker's Dracula the Count could walk in sunlight just fine but had diminished power during the day. In fact it was first portrayed in Nosferatu in 1922 and none of the original folk tales had vampires harmed by sunlight.

For the most part when all these new wave vampire flicks/books/whatever break the "rules" they really aren't. But then of course they've turned vampires into a joke.

I actually used to think Twilight was SO stupid, and only liked by fangirls, etc.
I had my aunt, and one of my cousins like it. And, while I didn't think less of them, I thought "Why?".

Then, I met a few people at university who LOVED the books. And I mean deep deep love. Adoring the books, movies, ... I did not think less of them, but since I didn't have anything in common with them, and I thought they were sort of strange, anyway, I didn't think about it much more. They did, however, an exposition in a course, and they did it about the whole Twilight saga. And you know, their eyes almost sparkled (pun intended) while talking about it. So much to the point I thought "I might end up reading those books, out of curiosity". Needless to say I lost interest overtime.

And then, things changed. There's this girl I know who I like, and she said she liked the books. She's not a fangirl, or anything, but she does say she likes the books, and the movies, too. I didn't think less of her, and since she is a sensible person, I wondered how was that possible. I was curious, so I asked her to send me a pdf file of the book, because I couldn't be a**ed to buy it (I know, that's wrong and shit, but still :monster:) and I was curious. And, sadly, I did think it was an OK book. Granted, my native language is NOT English, and I'm reading the book in English, so all the "bad writting" thing is not that clear to me. I know I had no interest in reading them in Spanish, though. They seemed... unappealing, absolutely. I've read two of them, going to the third one. I have to admit I'm thinking it's an OK book but, of course, there are a few points that do bother me.

I like it, yes. I admit it. But I don't think it's a good book, really. It's just a story that seemed to be entertaining. One proof that it's not a good book is that I refuse to mention I read it, ANYWHERE, to ANYONE ._. (this being the first place)

It might be possible that I think the books are ok just because this girl I like likes them. When/if she rejects me, we'll see what happens to my opinion, it might change :awesomonster:

Oh, and for the record. When my brother saw the pdf file on my computer, he said: "No, not you, too!"

Geez. Why did I have to like Twilight?

:demands:

I’ve read several books in English and I can say that Twilight is bad written. I don’t know about the Spanish translation, but the English one is so simple it sounds like my first fanfictions from when I was sixteen :awesome:

Don't worry, I think everyone has suffered from the same at one point of his/her life :monster:

You're probably right, but that shouldn't happen at my age!!

Oh, and that's probably why you can' say it's bad written. I haven't read several books in English... I'll give you my opinion after I read a few other books! :joy:
I can say, however, that it is simple. I've had absolutely no problem with reading them, so that must mean the complication is... nearly zero!

First, you are only 21. Second, that statement is never true :awesome: I’ve seen older men (and women) doing even stupider things, so don’t worry and be happy.

If you are still interested on vampire novels, I suggest you to read Anne Rice’s works. Her depiction of vampires is quite peculiar, as the way they fall in love with each other :awesome: but they are worth the read.

Yay, they are worth the read? Might actually try it!!

Oh, "only" 21! That's something I hadn't heard for a while. (that's the problem when people at my class in university are mostly 19... uh...yeah.) As for stupider things... *shivers* wow.

Thank you for the reccomendation! I'll definitely remember those!

They are a total of five books in the Vampire Chronicles, and then there are a series of six books named “The new tales of the Vampires”. I’ve read the first series and one of the second (The Vampire Armand). I don’t know if it was because I was already tired when I reached the sixth, but I find the first series better than the second. As for the film adaptations, I haven’t watched still “Interview with the Vampire”, but they say it’s a pretty good adaptation, though the “The Queen of the Damned” is quite bad.

Also, I've read "The Mummy" from the same authoress. It's a romance/mystery/horror novel, by the way :awesome:

But avoid the Anita Blake series like the plague. Seriously. In book 4, there's a description of a snuff porn movie featuring transforming lyncanthropes. And according to most websites, it gets worse. And she's up to book 14 or something now. :(

I'm still not sure how I got out of that one alive...

I reserached a bit about it (Wikipedia :awesome: ). Good god, what a... I don't know how to say it. I think I'd rather read the novels of Vampire Hunter D, I could only watch the "Bloodlust" movie and was awesome. I wished they made a movie about FFVI :joy:

Yeah, I first learnt of the series through wikipedia, after seeing the first book in the library. I thought, "eh, it can't be that bad..." :awesome: Famous last words, right?

Wow, this is rapidly spiralling into the "just talk about vampires" thread, huh? :awesome: I watched that movie, and I spent most of it confused. A friend who's very into the D series explained that the movie is based on a butchered version of the third book, which makes a world of sense of it.

Black Blood Brothers - great vampire anime. Good English voice-acting, and has the original Japanese commentary on it.

Yeah, those were my words before reading Twilight :monster:

I just sat there, watching the movie starry-eyed because of the good animation and D badassness :awesome: But I understood the entire story, though I think it was a bit rushed.

Sounds good, might watch is sometime ^^

Ah, maybe you can explain the guy who sent out a ghost that did Holy damage to me then. :wacky: I mean, I got the storyline, it was just all the missing backstory that threw me.

You should. :)

I enjoyed The Mummy, but there needed to be more
Cleopatra
in it, she was just underused imo

I just explained it by: "If this is a world where mutants are normal, then this Marcus Bros are only a bunch of freaks, so all this thing with the phantom must be logicall" :awesome:

What I didn't like was the open ending
with Cleo still alive
