Ok, so this is something that has always bothered me. I can't get into anime for one reason more than any other: the constant, unnecessary, and completely unnatural gasps. Not just by the girls, by everyone.

For example:

It's just SO GODDAMN ANNOYING. Nobody in the history of ever has emoted in such a ridiculous manner.

I just really hope the remake isn't rife with that garbage.

Totally agreed!!
Agree that Tifa and Aerith sounds too similar. But can't really imagine how their voices should be like either

^ I've gotten used to the JRPG style over the years and am pretty good at tuning it out, BUT Vanille in FF13 was pushing my limits. As long as it never crosses that line, I'll be ok.

Never really watched much anime (heard One punch man was amazing though) so I can't really speak to that.

Actually, I wouldn't mind mention of Genesis and Angeal...

I don't mind anime gasping, as long as it doesn't get out of hand. I guess that's kind of subjective. But shows like Death Note (mentioning it because it was in the video) are not that bad imho. I was melded by anime so I do like a little taste of dramatism/overstated-ness - there are certain things that anime can dramatize/express that no other medium can pull off, and I think that's an asset. I'll take a potato chip, anyone? I wonder if this originates from kabuki. Anyway, pathological gasping seems to be more of a problem in 80s/90s shows, super shonen-y shows, and moe shows. But I do understand the aversion to the ubiquity of high pitched female voices with the same timbre and intonation. A lot of times the female voices don't suit the character and seem chosen to conform to narrow Japanese beauty standards. I would say the voice I like the most out of the girls is Tifa - realistic delivery.

This might be the game that finally convinces me to get a PS4....but now that the PS5 is probably just around the corner, I may as well wait for that. Curious if all the parts will actually even release on PS4 or not, considering how long this is all going to take. (Guessing that the final part will be around 2030?)

As for the trailer, I can tell that the Japanese one has an 'anime' style to the voices too, but it's less grating, perhaps because I can't actually understand the language. My favourite amongst the English voice actors is probably Tifa.

Speaking of optional boss, i think someone mentioned this before but I wish they make Lucrecia a hidden boss or sth

Or maybe Vincent can rekindle an old flame?

Just kidding. The last thing I want is overly complex dating mechanics. The gondola ride is just the right amount for me.

Speaking of dating mechanics, I wonder if they'll expand our options to include Jessie this time and turn the triangle into a square. She seems to have gotten about as much screen time in the trailers as the other two girls, or at least Tifa, so I suppose it's possible. If they're even incorporating such a thing into the game in the first place, that is. And considering that the romantic sideplots for Tifa and Aerith don't really conclude until much farther into the overall FFVII story, long after the Midgar portion, it might make sense to allow Jessie as an option for Part 1 since she would be the only one of the three to be able to have a complete story arc of that sort in this game given that she's not likely to appear in the others for obvious reasons.

And if they do allow it, that would make her loss during the fall of the plate even more emotional and difficult than it already will be - I'm guessing she may have the "Aerith moment" of Part 1. We had the option of flirting with her in the OG, so it's not much of a stretch to believe we'll have that option again here. And it would be nice if it could actually lead somewhere this time, and since they're changing some things from the OG, it's not unreasonable to think that they might allow it in the remake especially since we'll have much more time with her than in the OG, which means there'll be a lot more time for that sort of thing.

I get that, but I never said it had to be set in stone or anything. More like how you could choose how to treat the girls in the OG and how it would affect certain scenes later on. We know we'll have dialogue choices in the remake, so letting the player decide which girl to pursue or flirt with could allow certain scenes or parts of scenes to unfold differently depending on your choices much like in the OG, that's all, while still keeping the main story beats the same. And, incidentally, allowing the beginnings of something to happen with Jess, for instance, doesn't prevent the possibility of him becoming involved with one of the other two in later parts of the series given that this is the only one she's likely to be in and the fact that their romantic moments (Gold Saucer date for Aerith and Lifestream dive/Highwind night for Tifa) don't even happen until well after Midgar anyway.

Midgar is much too early in either of their series story arcs for a complete development of that sort. Where then would you go in the later parts if he's already clearly involved with one of the two? Foundations can be laid for both girls in Part 1, but I don't know that it would progress further than that at such an early point in the series. Should SE pick one and have one fridged girl (as you say) and risk alienating half the fanbase by not allowing them the choice for themselves? Or should they leave it up to the player to decide and simply allow three options instead of two? And as for your comment about Biggs and Wedge, there tends to be a difference of view for such things when it happens to girls as opposed to guys. Girls tend to be seen as more vulnerable, especially in situations like that where they experience a tragic death. It's a societal thing, I think.

This is what we're fighting against. This perception. Girls are not only perceived as vulnerable, they're actually supposed to BE more vulnerable. Anyway EM is right, Jessie's gonna die anyway. As are Biggs and Wedge. Jairus, you should remember that a very large part of the FFVII fanbase are women. As fans, we have the same rights to have our preferences considered as, well, the other side.

I do wish they had more dating options. It's not a priority, but I think it would be fun to have the option to date multiple characters -- even if they're not considered "dates".

I'm joking when I say this, but it would be fun to try to date the Turks. :mon:
