Hopes for Remake & Rebirth (story/content)

I actually quite liked this fact. Its world felt realistic. It didn't feel like a video game world like something Bethesda might make. As long as they give you a good means of transport, I'm ok with quite empty worlds (they obviously still need plenty to do, but it doesn't need to be equally...

    Anthem - New Bioware IP

What even counts as a "Bioware fan" in 2019? The last game of theirs I absolutely loved was Mass Effect 2. That's nearly a decade old now. I think if you go for a decade without releasing anything I like, I generally stop calling myself a fan.

Final Fantasy XV (was Versus XIII)

The German translation for the game apparently says that the starscourge came from the meteor. I assume the gods should know that, if it's the official explanation.

Final Fantasy XV (was Versus XIII)

Oooo I wonder if General Glauca will be in it. We know he was around at a similar time from the intro to Kingsglaive.

I don't think I even noticed this. Where else gets blocked? I was mostly just annoyed you can't go back to Cleyra.

There's a fair amount of openness quite early on in the original though. You get the Tiny Bronco on disc 1 don't you?

Hopes for Remake & Rebirth (story/content)

The problem with each part being a separate game is that you couldn't revisit old locations. Which you even need to do for the story! So there's an issue.

Hopes for Remake & Rebirth (story/content)

Well no-one would really jump into Lightning Returns if they hadn't played the first 2 games either. That's not a perfect analogy because those stories are much more detached. But still, I seriously doubt anyone bought that who hadn't played the original. The Mass Effect approach seems best to...

Final Fantasy XV (was Versus XIII)

The Ifrit scene seems weird. So I'm guessing Ardyn had to fight him in order to get him as a summon, like Noctis did in the main game. The fight looks like it's somewhere in Niflheim, and yet it looks like the kingsglaive are fighting with him. Makes no sense. Oh and if you look at the fighting...

Final Fantasy XV (was Versus XIII)

The one thing that wasn't completely clear is whether he was always rejected by the crystal or whether it was just because he showed his demonic side at the end. The oracle's reaction made it look like Ardyn was the true king to start with. But that does hinge on the gods not knowing he was...

Final Fantasy XV (was Versus XIII)

Yep, like I guessed earlier, I'd thought Somnus would be a villain. It made sense as a way of turning the moral justification for the story upside down. It fit with how callous the Lucian kings appear throughout the story. They never particularly feel like good guys, even though they're on 'your...

Hopes for Remake & Rebirth (story/content)

That's misleading. FF7 sold about 10 million on the PS1 within 4-5 years. Then the 1 million up to 2015 was just on the PS3/PSP/Vita, which happened about a decade later. So comparing like for like would be comparing the 10 million to whatever figure XV reaches by the end of the PS4, which will...

Hopes for Remake & Rebirth (story/content)

That's a common claim that they ditched it because action has more of a mainstream appeal. And yet, FF7 is still the best selling in the series. My theory is they've largely ditched turn-based because it doesn't make for very good preview trailers. They want something that looks flashy...

    Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

Maybe that was explained earlier on and I just rushed through a tutorial, but it really does help to use Chronostasis whenver you have the option to. See I didn't use it at all for the first few days. Now I use it constantly.

    The Legend of Zelda (General)

I'm pretty sure they're working on a sequel at the moment. Their 3D and 2D Zelda teams are usually independent. Links Awakening is a great place to start with the 2D types. Alternatively A Link Between Worlds on the 3DS is brilliant too.

    Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII

I feel there are correct and incorrect ways of playing the game though, due to the time limit. The correct way is to go straight to the main quests. The incorrect way is to intentionally just do sidequests. I wasted 2 days exploring and doing sidequests and failed to get enough eradia to get...

Surely RPGs are one of the only places they're NOT meaningless!

    Final Fantasy IX

Switch is a great platform for those PS1 games. If you play it in handheld mode, the low resolution of the backgrounds won't be as evident. Everything else about FF9 has aged really well, especially given that they updated the character models!

Hopes for Remake & Rebirth (story/content)

I'm betting it'll be more like the Mass Effect trilogy. Separate games but the saves carry across, or you can start a generic version if you don't have a save. I think they'll try and make each part into more of a self-contained story, so they kinda work as games by themselves, but there'll just...

Hopes for Remake & Rebirth (story/content)

Changing the style between games would be a terrible idea and I don't see why they would. I assume your save game will carry between games, or give you a generic new version like Mass Effect. And they surely won't take like 5 years each. A lot of the stuff from the first game will subtract from...
