Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

The question at this point is how hard should Square Enix lean into the meme? Because I'd much rather have Neil Breen than Sharknado.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Side note, I feel like they should change it so every enemy has its name displayed as "Chaos?" not just Garland.

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

So, after seeing some demo gameplay (no PS5), I have some thoughts: - It's very obviously just a vertical slice showing the first dungeon and boss of the game, even though the trailer gives you the impression that the entire thing will take place in the Chaos Shrine. - I don't know how the...

Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origin

Well, there are at least screenshots showing the characters wearing other gear sets. I don't know what's up with the default outfits just looking like stuff you'd buy at JCPenney, given that everything else has a dark fantasy vibe. I suspect that you'll be able to get gear that looks more like...

    FFVII: Ever Crisis Announced

I'm pretty sure that アイテム課金型 is just Japanese nomenclature for "microtransactions" or "in-app purchases" (which is what the EN site says) which will most likely be paid chapters, just like FFXV Pocket Edition. Nothing about this looks like a gacha game. Aerith and the summons are most likely...

Unique Compilation Content in Crossover Titles

Not really sure what to call this thread, but for those who might not be aware, there are several games, especially mobile titles, where Final Fantasy VII characters appear as guest characters, which often necessitates creating various unique weapons and abilities for them that don't originate...

    Sonon Kusakabe background

It seems likely to me that Sonon has been involved with this Avalanche cell for a while and Yuffie has only recently arrived to offer her expertise as a materia hunter. That's at least the vibe I get from the trailer.

    FFVII: Ever Crisis Announced

Looks like an ATB meter with icon-based skills instead of menu-based skills. Probably each of those is a materia slot or something. Ever Crisis will probably be like FFXV Pocket Edition. First chapter free, additional chapters released over time for $2 each or something, and then when they're...

FFVII Remake: Intergrade Yuffie DLC Announced

I can't say I'm happy with the DLC being exclusive to the PS5 version, given that I finally bought a PS4 just for Remake. Never thought I'd see Weiss again.

    FFVII: Ever Crisis Announced

This is pretty cool. More faithful remake of the original game, plus covering the plots of the entire Compilation. Hopefully they port it to PC like they did with FFXV Pocket Edition.

Final Fantasy VII: The First Soldier

Anyone else think it's weird that they're limiting this to mobile? I mean, it's fucking weird in general, but you'd think they'd make it multiplatform.

Square Enix trademarks Ever Crisis, The First Soldier, and Shinra logo in Japan

Given the naming structure of the Compilation it's obvious that EVER CRISIS is a major entry. Hard to say if it'd be a subtitle for the next part of the REMAKE, or maybe some sort of combined retelling of BC/CC. Its name makes it feel like a continuation of both the Compilation and a tie-in to...

FFVIIR Game of the Year Accolades List

Jim Sterling included it in their top five games of 2020, which is quite high praise:

    The Game Awards 2020

Whether FFVIIR-2 gets awards or not I think is largely dependent on what other games get released the year it comes out. As an anime-influenced JRPG it's always going to have stiff competition from grounded AAA western titles.

    The Game Awards 2020

So far my predictions for awards are spot-on. Though that's just because it's kind of predictable what they're looking for in all of these categories. TLOU2 got Best Direction (lol) so I'd say the chances of GoT getting GOTY just got a bit higher. That tends to be their GOTY runner up award...

FFVII previews in gaming magazines before release

The thing about video game magazine previews is that, for the most part, they're just regurgitated press releases. The exception would be import reviews, and the only magazine I remember having extensive import coverage was Diehard GameFan. You can find scans and PDF of lots of classic gaming...

    The Game Awards 2020

I'm still expecting TLOU2 and/or GoT to snag most of the big awards since they're the video game equivalent of Oscar Bait. FFVIIR has a solid shot at picking up best RPG and best score. Hades might snag the latter but, as good as the music is, I think it's a pretty weak showing compared to...
