Okay, I know this isn't COMPILATION related perse, but as an aside, is it possible to pool our knowledge and resources together to get the creation materials and Ultimanias for the mostly untranslated FF's finally translated? I know its not exactly easy, but given the number of fan dubs and shit that people do, it certainly isn't impossible either. I definitely think this could really do some good.

I believe with the proper organization, momentum, and interest, this is very, very possible.

Oh, my gosh. What I would do to read a translation of FF6 Ultimania...

I've gotten in arguments about Kefka's back story before. Some of it sounds like it was made up, but then again maybe it's from the Ultimania.

In reading that page about Kefka's background... the parallels between his life and Sephiroth's life are very, very interesting.

Yeah, and there's a major schism in the fan community that a lot of it is bullshit and made up. Seeing a few translations on Kefka's backstory before, I have to agree. That information just seemed to spontaneously appear out of nowhere.

Just based upon what I read on the linked page and what I've heard in general, I'm personally divided.

On the one hand it sounds like BS-fanfic-nonsense... but then again, I've read some of the Ultimania "official" materials and those sound like pseudo-fanfic sometimes as well.

It really is baffling how the game itself can be so excellent, but the stuff that gets tacked on is often so, so bad.

I'd support the idea. If I knew a goddamn lick of Japanese I'd attempt to translate the FFVI stuff myself, but obviously that won't be happening.

Something like this really would be awesome. I'd especially be interested in the pre-VII FF Ultimanias.

It'd have to be a gigantic pain in the ass, though.

If I was a 31137 Japanese translator, I'd totally translate them all, put them on a site, and monetize it massively.

Except I don't. So if I put up a site and monetized it, I'd have to pay the translators to be fair :monster:. And that'd lead to massive arguments, I'm sure.

However, an 'occifial' project website for FF and FF-related translations (think magazine and ultimania translations, game retranslations, etc) would be quite win.

You can try hitting up mangahelpers, the place was created for translation. It's been awhile since I been there but that probably hasn't changed. I know it's not a manga but there might be someone interested.

Actually, there's only one and I should have read the list through first before doing it all :monster: I thought there was more FF ones, but obviously not. They don't seem to have any other pre-FFVII books either, so those must be from another company.

Edit; that FFVI books mentioned (Settei Shiryou) is out of print now, so would probably be hard to get a hold of.

There also only seems to be four of them for the whole series: FFIV, VI, X-2 and XI.

Chronocompendium, the Chrono equivalent of this site (and far larger and older too) is already ahead of us. They've translated and retranslated everything from the Ultimanias to both of the games.
