I'm not entirely sure how this differs from the other day's question. My favourite scene -- aside from the ones I already talked about -- is the FFVII OGs reveal of the true events of the Nibel Reactor. (during the lifestream sequence). First comes the reveal that his name was Zack, which was a huge mindfuck my first playthrough. The scene ends with the satisfying conclusion of those events, we hadn't seen Sephiroth defeated before. Not only was he defeated, but he freaking Died! Talk about crowning moment of awesome for pre-game Cloud... But what makes this scene stand out for me is the middle. The reveal of Cloud.

Because of the sprites, I had no idea who that silhouette was. He runs into the light - sword in hand - with nothing but a heartbeat as soundtrack. The moment I realized he was that MP was the moment Sephiroth turned around, the same shock somehow visible in his physicalization. And then he was staight up iced. The MP walks back towards us and as soon as I start really believing it's him, the heartbeat cuts out he reaches up to take off his mask. There's no logical plot reason to do it -- it's a gift for us.

When Cloud takes the mask off, four chords from the halfway mark of the Main Theme play -- do you know the ones? Just strings. We haven't heard the main theme since Aeris was alive. I can't think of a more appropriate sign that Cloud is on his way. That he's going to make it.

The rest of the scene works its magic, but it's already taken the cake, as far as I'm concerned. It's different from my favourite 'moments' in that those involved a sequence of scenes building on each other. I don't think the whole lifestream sequence is game-changing (despite it's greatness) but that one scene - the reveal of Cloud and what really happened to Sephiroth five years ago - is imo the best single scene unto itself by far.

I mentioned earlier that the opera from VI is my favourite scene, and numerous people have already given better explanations than I could give about why it's so epic, so I'm going to chose one of my other favourite scenes instead:

This is possibly the most emotional 47 seconds of any video game I've ever played. It goes from a sickening sense of helplessness, to heartbreaking, to a cold fury (all of which is reflected beautifully in the music - the piano, then the strings, then the drums) that makes the immediately following boss fight against the Black Waltz one of the most satisfying kills of the entire FF series. How the boss battle starts with Vivi going immediately into Trance is an excellent example of how gameplay should reflect story - in this case, Vivi's grief and rage over the slaughter of his fellow mages.

Tiff has already answered it for me, the Your not alone scene from FF IX. So I guess I can sit back and relax and not worry about what to type out, just read Tiff's post. Lols.:awesome:

Most Disappointing FF game.

I may get bitten by hardout FF7 fans here, but the game that has disappointed me most in the whole entire FF series, is Crisis Core. I looked up online for reviews for this game, since DOC wasn't really the best, and didn't want to make the same mistake twice. It got 10/10 scores and stellar reviews, so I thought it would be a good idea to buy this game.

Oh man. I hate the music in this game, unlike the beautiful somber and sometimes upbeat and jazzy music of the original game, all, if not most of Crisis Core's music is hardout rock, or just trying to be loud. It's like the game, is trying to be cool. FF VII didn't try and be cool, it just was it's natural self. It even made fun of it's self, now and again. Don Corneo's dress up, comes to mind.

Another thing, that drove me up the bend was Angeal. I didn't care about him. He same some things about his sword, and then goes and chases Genesis like a fangirl.
Then when he gets wings, Zack tells him that angels are beautiful and having wings is like a gift, but no, no, no, no Angeal decides it would be best, to throw a 3 year old tantrum, at Zack instead. When he died, I didn't really care. I cared for Zack though, but that was about it. Why, Zack cared for the man, I have no idea.

Another, is Aerith. Oh boy, what did SE do to her ? They basically raped her character, and gave us what's left. SHE WAS SCARED OF THE SKKKY. Aerith, the tough girl of the slums, who can defend herself against criminals, rapists, thieves , you name it, was scared of something, pathetic, like the friggen sky. Come. On.

Another, is the battle system. It drove me up the fricken bend. Those annoying wheels things, kept on getting in the way, and you could only level up by pure luck.
THEN WHAT'S THE POINT OF EVEN FIGHTING ?! Part, of the Final Fantasy series, is leveling up and just leveling up farming. A Final Fantasy without having to level up farming, is just retarted.

The next, is Genesis. What a retarted character. All he basically does, is rant about some stupid poem. It's annoying, and lame. When Kuja does it, it's awesome, because he knows how to pull it off and make it exciting. When Genesis, does it. It just makes you want to pull out your hair, because all he does, is speak about Loveless.

The only good thing about Crisis Core, was it's beautiful, but so sad ending. Poor Zack. Oh, and Zack himself, of course. But apart from a touching ending, and a good lead hero, and some awesome moments from Crisis Core Cloud, this game, really, really disappointed me. I think I said that FF X was my least fav Final Fantasy, well, this game would have to be second place. Just bad, I've never had a urge to grab a gun and shoot a Final Fantasy before.

But yeah, you guys are probably going to hate me for beating down on it.

The most disappointing FF game?

Hmm.... It'd have to be Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, for me. When they announced a sequel to Final Fantasy Tactics, several years after its release and subsequent fading away into Square's basement, I was so stoked to play another deep, engrossing tactical Final Fantasy game on the level with Tactics.

Granted FF Tactics Advance was fun and interesting, but...it paled into comparison to the first FF Tactics. In almost every way. It was fun, but...it was just. Not anywhere close. The story was of course more whimsical and lighthearted, and the characters were nowhere near as complex as FF Tactics'. But I guess it was just to be expected. The game was just a GBA sequel targeted towards younger kids getting into Final Fantasy.

It wasn't a bad game, but it didn't live up to FF Tactics.

I actually hated FFX. I wasn't particularly interested in having a wino that looked like Meg Ryan as a protagonist. Most of the other characters were pretty dull as well.

You don't level based on pure luck in CC, fyi.

Most disappointing...that's pretty tough, most of the games I played a couple years after they came out with the exception of IX and XII. XII MIGHT count initially, but the game has grown on me since then.

It might be FF4, which I've mentioned before. Not because FF4 is a bad game - it isn't. I'm enjoying the Complete Collection on PSP right now. But it had been built up so much by people I knew that when I finally did get around to playing it a couple years ago my expectations were a bit unrealistic.

IV DS disappointed me for awhile because of the build up as well. But It's slowly getting better, imo.

My most disappointing game overall, is DoC and FFVIII.

I hate VIII, and it makes it worse that a part of the reason why is because I was going off the VII train. The game made me cringe at almost every point, because either Rinoa or Squall (or everybody else) was being a fucktard.

But it's DoC, because if anything was riding the FFVII train, it was this game. It had no redeeming value other than Reeve. I'm not even exaggerating when I say I think this almost ruined FFVII for me, I hate it that much.

My favorite scenes are the same parts as my favorite parts in a game. I don't understand how they are suppose to be different.

Favourite FF scene, besides the ones mentioned up to now, has to be Vivi's letter at the end of FFIX.

It's not epic nor anything like that, but it's very sad and melancolic, yet it has a certain morbid beauty in it. It was probably the scene in all FF that touched me the most, specially because it was about Vivi, probably my favourite FF character bar the usual three.

From the main series, the FF game that disappointed me the most was FFVIII. The game was disappointing in itself, since the two first CDs were insteresting, but from there on the game just became boring and convulted.

Spin offs and such, Dissidia Duodecim has been quite disappointing up until now. The 012 storyline is lame and the new additions to the gameplay are nothing extraordinary. The new characters are fun to play with, though.

FFX was the first disappointment, as I was riding the general Final Fantasy train. You see, they had been getting progressively better. IX was a stunning return to form. And "now it's gonna be on the PS2? Think of what a long, complex story it could have! What an immersive world!" in comparison to everything that came before? Uhhh.

After FFX, the disappointments weren't as shocking, although things like FFXI and every non-numbered title have provoked more intense ire from me. But FFX was the first time I looked at anything FF and said "this kinda sucks."

i didn't play any of the games in order, so some of my disappointment in the games came from them not aging well at the time i played them. the first game in the series i had actual disappointment in was ffx. maybe i was still caught up on ffxii but i couldn't get into the story, and the battle system just felt archaic.

ffxiii is a close runner up.

I don't like FFVIII, but it didn't disappoint me mostly because I didn't have expectations when I first played it. And I did like a lot of parts of it... it's just the main problems I have with it are very irritating which makes it hard to play again. However... FFXIII I have to say truly disappointed me. I was expecting something amazing, and the only amazing thing about it was the graphics. I don't like Lightning, and I don't think I ever will like her. I did come to a point where I stopped hating her character, now it's just to a point where I don't give a shit about her, lol. Like, she did have her moments in FFXIII but I feel she is one of the most forced 'female empowering' characters... EVER. She's brooding, and cold... and she goes by a nick name because she left her old name behind. Baaaw. It's something we've heard a million times before, it's a stupid sob story that's so painfully cliche it hurts. (Plus, Squall had that idea first beish 8D) Her reasons for it... aren't even that GREAT imo. I could not connect with her character... I think I would have felt more for if she wasn't such a GIANT BITCH with a GIANT STICK up her ass. Lightning is basically a female version of Squall (attitude wise), but at least she didn't have some BS romance to change her ways. Yeah it loosened by the end of the game, but by then I was just so fed up with her.
"I'm Lightning and I'm such a badass female that can destroy anything and I think I'm so hot shit and I go around punching people isn't that so ttly badass"
-smashes head on wall-
Anyway moving on from how much I can't stand Lightning, I couldn't really find a deep feeling for *any* of the characters besides maybe Hope. I liked how he grew as a character, I think probably more than anyone else, and his interactions with the others are the best. 'Course that's just my opinion but as much as I like Hope, still not even close to the best character ever, or on the same level as any other FF character in other games. That's how I felt about every character in this game. Sure I liked them, but when it comes down to it they just do not compare to ANY of the previous characters in the previous games. I also feel like the plot line is rather boring. Yes, other games have been cliche but in that classic sort of way... this game just feels tired, boring, linear, and not really replayable. I didn't enjoy playing it, and I would never put time into going through it ever again, lol. I did like some of the cutscenes though so... yeah. That's good I guess.

random: This thread is going to make me replay FFIX 8D

Edit:
I actually don't understand the hate for Aerith's character in Crisis Core. I quite liked her, it's just that in the past she was a bit more timid about things. She had the desire to be normal, and it's understandable she'd be afraid of what's not in her comfort zone. Zack's the one that got her to open up a bit more, and she developed on her own through time without his help even. Aerith is young back then, and actually going through a lot. Give her a break, really, lol. I don't think anything was ruined about her character, in fact after Crisis Core I liked her character even more.

Was gonna say DoC, but it wasn't disappointing because I didn't go in with high expectations. I went in expecting sexy CGI Vincent and I got it. Plus Reeve. Plus onesided Yuffentine :awesome:

So, most disappointing for me would be VIII. I got fed up with it in less than an hour. I know that's not really giving it a chance, but damn, just could not get into it.

doc gets so much hate but i liked it. in comparison to the rest of the compilation it doesn't come off as much to be, but the rpg story mixed with shooter gameplay was nice. i'm not much of a fan of turn based systems in general though so that could make me partial towards it.

out of 100 i'd give it 79.

The only game in the series I played long enough to be disappointed with it was FFX-2. FFX had its moments of levity but it also had plenty of serious plot, even if its presentation of that plot was severely flawed. For FFX-2 they seemed to feel it was acceptable just to dispense with the plot. And while I understand that everyone grieves in different ways, Yuna's character arc seemed just the slightest bit like an excuse for fanservice to me rather than a legitimately reasoned out psychological portrait of a woman in grief. I doubt I would have minded that much if it were a stand-alone game, but as a sequel to FFX it was pretty damn disappointing.

Day 10 – Best Final Fantasy scene ever.

*Again, I'm gonna have to point out the trip to Zanarkand. The lifestream sequence is a close second, but only because it just involved Cloud and Tifa and not the whole gang.

Day 11 – Final Fantasy game that disappointed you.

* I would say VIII (which is true), but that comes second only to FFX. I really do love this game and the story is beautiful to me, but back when I was a teen and was more interested in Sailormoon/DBZ/Gundam Wing/Outlaw Star/Reboot/Trigun/Cowboy Bebop and discovering the whole new world of the internet, playing this game and watching the story disappointed me. I was expecting old school FF and some Midgar like towns in X; instead I was met with boring broken down villages, characters that didn't look interesting at all and just weirded me out, and I was easily bored with the storyline. I also hated how it ended since I wasn't used to an ending like that for a video game.

When I play it again now, I'm kinda glad I didn't pay too much attention because it feels like a whole new experience and it really was a ball to play. I now love the story and ending, the characters that I used to hate I now love, and even though I still don't want to live there, I can see all the villages/towns own unique beauty and why the people choose to stay there and rebuild.

I have a feeling I'm gonna keep replaying it in the future. :monster:

And only because it's so close to being 12 am over here: Day 12 - Final Fantasy game you’ve played more than 5 times.

* Easily FFVII (and ironically VIII). VII because there was always something to discover within each playthrough and to this day I have only reached the final match once. Hell, I'm even doing it now just so that I can fight against Emerald and Ruby. Have never fought them so that's gonna be fun. :monster: Overall, with the story still fun to go through and the many sidequests to do, it is why I still replay it.

I only played VIII 5 times because I tried giving it so many chances, and each one of them failed horribly. At least I tried.

I've started FFVII 35 times. I've only finished it once. It's a long story, full of erased memory cards (that's plural cards) two broken computers, even more broken CDs, a PSX that caught fire during a lightning storm, an oppressively religious household literally throwing out my black label "satan's game" and almost five years of attempts. I've gotten to Disc 3 at least ten times, so I think that counts.

I think that's actually the only one. I've played FFIX and FFVIII several times through, but both under five times. FFVII was the first game, and the only one that gave me that much trouble to play through it so often.

As a bonus, I've calculated that I've spent an approximate 3000+ hours playing FF games alone! That's almost half a year!! 2% of my life!

I'm reasonably certain the only Final Fantasy games I have completed more than once are Final Fantasy V and Final Fantasy VI. I've completed FFV twice and have lost track of how many times I've completed FFVI, but it must be more than five.

I've started replaying several of the others, but none of them ever made it all the way to complete playthrough status.

Game I played more than 5 times?

FFVII, without a doubt. I don't even know how many times I played it. I'm pretty sure I didn't finish most of them, but still. I played this game so much I was actually banned from the game for awhile, much to my horror.

The other FFs I maybe played twice. I had a couple of starts with FFX but that's because FFX is cursed- I lost three memory cards playing that game, and when I finally gave up, I never lost another one. Other than that, I played FFIX twice- because I got my game saved over right when I was nearing the last boss. I played VIII one and a half times, because the first time I got stuck trying to get to Ultima Weapon and had to start over. XIII twice to try out the different versions of the PS and Xbox versions.

Other than that, usually only play a JRPG once. The only JRPG game I may have played more than FFVII is Chrono Cross.

IV comes in at 3 or 4. X-2 about the same. XII I've played twice (I've started a couple other but usually only get to Phon Coast before I give up). II, III, & XIII just once a piece. DoC twice. CC twice.
