I sincerely hope that no significant changes are made to her model as a response to this vocal minority haha. Not only because I reckon she looks fine to begin with, but the underlying reasoning behind it creeps me out and ticks me off.

"Aerith doesn't look like a 14-year-old, what is this injustice?"

big yikes.

Have you good folks seen the changes they'd like to apparently see?

Personally, I reckon it works out better if Aerith looks more mature than not given her role in the story. Isn't that the air that she gives off? Knowing more than she lets on? Keeping calmer and cooler in the face of things that get others (notably Barret, haha) riled up? It's fitting that she looks dependable and as though she has no trouble taking care of herself. She's a badass tbh. Certainly trumps looking like Marlene's playdate.

Whilst I'm on the subject...
I've also heard complaints (I'm not sure if it's the same niche group complaining about how 'old' Aerith looks) that Aerith looks too western? She strikes me as obviously Japanese myself, lmao, but I ain't about to say these folks are wrong as they're Japanese themselves.

I'll contest that she looks mebbe hafu (half Japanese with her other half being Caucasian in this case) which I believe works given that, in the context of a Japanese audience, she's supposed to come across as a little 'out of this world' and different. 'Exotic' if you will (haha I know that can be a gross word for some).

By contrast, it would be coolio if Tifa came across as more overtly Japanese and thus 'familiar,' again, in the context of a Japanese audience. She's the girl next door whilst Aerith is the foreign exchange student lmao, wink wink. Mayhaps they're going to disregard that and push for an international appeal for both leading ladies, who knows. Either way, you bet your ass they're going to be impossibly pretty.

Seeing her grow up wearing a cowgirl outfit and work in a bar with a Texas sign hanging in it gives me the impression Tifa was meant to look like an all American girl.

Oof, I forgot that Texan and Old West imagery are commonplace symbols of 'America' oversees, lmao big yikes. It's funny cuz the term 'All-American Girl' itself typically applies to blonde-haired, blue-eyed randies which isn't Tifa at all lmaoo. But maybe she's a subversion of the trope :P.

Yeah I hate those fan edits for Aerith. She looks like a kid. She's 22! Which I know is still young :'( But fully grown all the same. I would be highly disappointed if they changed her due to those complaints.

Tell ya what, every time that someone brings this shit up, let's hit'em with a rebuttal gif.

When she first appeared in the trailer with eyes closed, I felt like something was slighly off with her face. Compared to her other iterations, anyway:

I can't describe it, maybe it's the shape of her face or her eyelashes or both. But then she looks just fine in the rest of the trailer. (Maybe it's her Mako eyes that make me ignore the rest?)

They couldn't have forgotten Mako eyes.
  • Perhaps glowing eyes just didn't work for Cloud and he looked better with normal ones?
  • Maybe Mako eyes are not a thing anymore (glowing eyes are now a Cetra trait rather than SOLDIER)?
  • Mako eye glow is not a constant thing and only happens under certain circumstances?

From what I've read, there are definitely some mixed reactions. I'll give a rough translation of some of them from
buzz-plus.com/article/2019/05/10/ff7-remake-aerith-news

"The excitement for the release date is killing me! Aerith is mai waifu."

"They made Aerith really, really cute...so good..."

"Aerith's Cloud's waifu, and mai waifu too!"

"The lovely Aerith in the image makes me want to burst into tears even more!"

"Aerith's such a beauty! I'm looking forward to Tifa too! I can't wait to meet them!"

"Mai waifu Aerith is the most beautiful."

"Aerith's so cute, I want to play FF7R even more."

"I'm so glad that Aerith's so beautiful."

The comments on this article are a lot more negative, it seems (the title of the article translates to "Aerith being turned ugly turning into a hot topic") Just to cherrypick and translate a few comments...
blog.esuteru.com/archives/9312096.html

"No one has any cuteness."

”Why she looks too realistic is also puzzling"

"She was cute in Crisis Core..."

"Doesn't bother me."

”All these morons blurting 'uggo' feels strange."

"She got old lololol"

"What do you see that's ugly??"

"Overseas they hate cute girls. It;'s cause foreign games are smeared with amazon women. Aerith's much better."

"Not interested."

"I thought she was plenty cute tho..."

"Wicked surprised. Don't sully the memory of our FF7." << "Gross"

"I hope they correct her old-ass long face in the release version. Seeing her words and actions come from that face is too messed up, so make her a little cuter!"

"Where is the 'ugly'?? lololol. YOUR face is ugly. lololol."

etc. etc.

Just from taking the temperature of a lot of the comments, the main complaints seem to be the length of her face and that she looks like an "old lady." Keep in mind that most people seem to think her model is beautiful and people complaining she looks too old, or her face isn't round enough, are 萌えブタ (moe pigs). Most of the comments are on-board with her FF7R look.

I'm firmly in the "gorgeous" camp. I was smitten with her 20 years ago, and absolutely nothing has changed.

I know this is the Aerith thrad but I came here to say I really hope Tifa has some good strong muscles and Chun-Li thighs. :megusta:
And as I said in discord, I want her to
spill Scarlet's teeth like someone dropped a pack of chiclets on a tile floor

:fap:

Also, when someone says "all American girl", it does't conjur an image of blonde hair and blue eyes. That term makes me think of someone who is overtly prideful to the point where you want to project your fist through their mouth and out the back of their skull. But that's just me. :monster:

To me, Aerith looks fine as she is -- just like how Cloud in the first remake trailer looked fine to me even though there were plenty of stupid fans who said otherwise.
(especially on tumblr who bitched and moaned that Cloud didn't like Cloud in the first trailer and then acted like they had the high ground like they were the superior fangirls when this trailer dropped Cloud looked better and I'm not going to name names because she's a shit stirring idiot and doesn't deserve the attention anyhow)

The thing is, is that on the beginning of the trailer they put a disclaimer that things are in development and that things are subject to change -- just like how Cloud's appearance changed from the first trailer to this trailer, I'm pretty sure Aerith's appearance will change too. Hell, I'm pretty sure that when Tifa makes an appearance, lots of people are going to bitch that she doesn't look like Tifa (or certain stupid fans on tumblr will crow over the fact that 'haha Tifa's oogly hahahahaah this means SE hates Tifa' and in that case I'll just start drinking again).

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that people need to learn how to comprehend that that just because that SE showed a trailer doesn't mean it's a finished product -- if they're showing off a trailer, that means that things have progressed to a point where SE has felt confident enough to show things off, despite all the little things that need to be tweaked or fixed; and if that said trailer looks fine to the public eye, then they have done their job well. And considering how nearly everyone has responded overwhelmingly positively to the new trailer, well.

I would be more concerned if SE had decided to make a trailer out of storyboards that Nomura scribbled down on the back of Starbuck's napkins or whatever.

Not ugly. Also, I don´t think she looks all childish and glittery, which would have been a disappointment. So I´m fine with the way she currently looks. For those of you who don´t, I guess once you start playing the game you´d get accustomed to her new look.

The only thing uncanny about Aeris is her overly active eyebrows, but that’s been a problem with every character in every FF7 product since the OG. People’s faces don’t move like that.

Okay I am sincerely confused about this comment. Maybe I just live with many prominent browed people, but how are SE brows overly active? They seem normal to me.

Look at this gif:
hey-fuck-you-im-grown-gif.3099

The dialogue here is “Hey, you all right?” But look how MUCH she is doing with her eyes. She blinks, and the blink is ended with her eyebrows rising about 2 mm. Then she furrows her brows back 2mm and squints her eyes about 5% for basically a millisecond, then she nods, and her eyes widen like they just launched off a trampoline. Her eyebrows then are like a stadium doing “the wave” — arching widely at the middle and then dropping while the outside of her eyebrows rise. Then she reverts back to the 5% squint and the 2mm furrow — ALL of this takes place within the span of one second. That just doesn’t happen in nature.

Amendment: it does happen in nature, if you’re saying something with such emphasis that it engages every muscle in your face. Aeris shouting to them from the helicopter that Marlene is alive might earn such a performance, but not “Hey, you all right?” Every digital actor in FF7 is a ham of the highest degree.
