If members feel patronised by staff and have yet to receive an apology from the said members of staff or expect that person/those people's behaviour to have changed in any significant way, expecting those members to treat said staff members respectfully is pretty unrealistic.

No. In such a scenario, the mature thing to do (by both Staff, and members) is to PM the staff to talk about any offending behavior maturely, like adults.

I don't think all this drama is about the points themselves. It's about what the points will be used for. From what I gather, these points will be used to purchase profile customizations, and other items. If you deny GC posters these points, they naturally won't be able to purchase these features, which is simply unfair. It's not about "OMFG I'M NOT GETTING POINTS" it's more like "Your denying me royalties because I prefer to talk of other things than Final Fantasy." You really can't bring up the site's "focus" to deny these members customizations. If it's all about the site's focus, then we really shouldn't have developed a General Chat section in the first place. Since that's not the case, GC posters should have the same opportunity to obtain these extra features.

Now if we can develop a way to give a higher value to posts made in FF sections, I'm all for it. But, completely denying GC posters access to these extra features is ridiculous. Also, since I'm not familiar with the system and how it works, my argument here may be worthless.

I actually don't think it'll be that bad - they won't get points for posting in there, yes, but there's plenty of other ways they get posts - activity in social groups, posting in non-GC / spammy sections (entertainment, for example), user messages, helping out with stuff for the site, etcetera.

With that in mind, I'd suggest the following: We try it out for a while (say, two - four weeks?), and see if there's people that think they're getting too few points for their activity. How's that?

Instead of applying it to the whole GC area is it possible to set it just for the Chit Chat thread, since thats arguably the most spammy of the lot rly and doesn't screw the whole section which isn't as bad. Or is that impossible to do under the system?
