The year is 1942, and Steve Rogers is a scrawny lad who desperately wants to fight Nazis for his country but can’t because he’s been deemed physically unfit. His fate — and his physique — is radically transformed when he signs up for Project: Rebirth, a secret military operation that turns wimps into studs using drugs and assorted sci-fi hoo-ha. There’s a love interest (Major Peggy Carter, played Haley Atwell), there’s a sidekick (Bucky Barnes, played by Sebastian Stans), and there’s the Red Skull (Hugo Weaving), Hitler’s treacherous head of advanced weaponry, whose own plan for world domination involves a magical object known as The Tesseract (comic fans know it better as The Cosmic Cube).

- 90% of the film takes place during the period 1939-1945, but the beginning and end of the feature film takes place today ...

- As an introduction, we see an exploration team discovered the remains of a giant bomber under the snows of the Arctic. Flashback (true beginning of the film): attack on a village in Norway (Hansberg) by troops from Hydra. Johann Scmidt is present (Skull), who has a passion for Nordic mythology. He looks for an object, the Cube [as seen in the Comic Con footage]

- The Skull is a former Nazi party member who left to found the organization Hydra. His vehicle is a car which is nine feet long, shielded and armed ... Hydra's secret base is located in the Alps, and he worked on controlling the energy of the Cube. The Cube is able to open a portal to "other dimensions of space-time. His "human" face is just a mask hiding his true appearance: Red Skull.

- Steve Rogers is a young man puny victim of mockery by thugs in Brooklyn. The body of actor Chris Evans will be digitally processed to give it that look. Steve is already friends with Bucky Barnes [his sidekick in the film]. Unlike Steve, he was accepted into the army and he was preparing to leave.

- The two friends visit an exhibition in New York, "The world of tomorrow." Among the exhibitors? Howard Stark [Tony's father]. There is a showcasing of anti-gravity boots, which only have a fraction of the energy of the cube. Stark Sr. will create the shield of Cap.

- After his transformation, Steve Rogers is used as a mascot in cinema, theater and performing in a music hall. During a performance (at Radio City Music Hall in New York) Rogers ended his show by hitting an actor dressed as Hitler (reenacting the cover of Captain America comic issue #1).

- He became a celebrity, while remaining down to earth, once sent to Europe, where he learns that Bucky was captured in a weapons factory in the Hydra. During this first mission, he frees a group that will become the Invaders.

- There will be a quick montage with several missions of Captain America: for example the sabotage of a train of Hydra. Cap and his crew rappel down a mountain and atterrisent on the roof of the train.

- The final scene: The Red Skull's purpose is to build a carrier style bomber, containing planes carrying bombs, which are destined for London and U.S. cities. The armament and machinery will be important. Red Skull uses the cube to power these machines (huge tank, bomber). There will be a great battle between the Red Skull and Captain America in the plane which eventually crashed in the Arctic.

- Captain America 2: Heinrichs evokes the possibility of a film blending the past and the present [as the current Ed Brubaker stories show]. Especially at a time of the interview, he speaks of the Hydra as an organization still in existence, and Nick Fury is fighting still fighting against it.

Holy shit seriously? The REAL Invaders? This just might save the film from the rest of its bullshit.

At least he's big. Still say Evans is a bad choice.

Thor = Early May.
Cap = Late July.

Since we got the Thor trailer in mid-October, I would be expecting a Cap trailer fairly soon. Thor may have also started shooting slightly sooner, because there's more post-production work to be done, but I'm still thinking that there'll be one pretty soon.

Captain America Trailer & new Thor trailer coming during the SuperBowl!

There's an eight-issue tie-in comic debuts Sunday as well called, Captain America: First Vengeance!

Naturally, the first issue features Steve Rogers, the hero created by Joe Simon and Jack Kirby who has been a staple in the comic book world since 1941. Van Lente first shows him as a frail boy growing up in the 1920s. When he's declared unfit for military service, Rogers volunteers for a top-secret research project so he can be a real soldier. A dose of super-soldier serum later, Rogers dons the Captain America garb and becomes a World War II hero.

Much of First Vengeance will deal with that origin story — along with an action-packed mission to Nazi-occupied Europe. But the writer is also introducing other characters fans will see in the movie, some of whom are familiar to longtime readers — such as the evil Red Skull and Cap's sidekick Bucky Barnes.

Also, some more images of Captain America in Empire! Magazine, and some new info:

"Scripts had been developed that took place half in World War Two, half in the modern day and none of those scripts were particularly successful because the costume ended up overshadowing the man," says Marvel chief Kevin Feige. "So we finally said, 'If we could make a Captain America movie any way we wanted to make it, how would we make it?' Well, we'd set the entire movie in the past, in that period, with all of the Marvel trimmings. And so we made the fun, kick-ass Captain America movie we wanted to."

"I've always loved Raiders and the tone that it had," says director Joe Johnston. "It was period but didn't feel like it was made in the period. It felt like a modern-day film about the period, which is what we're doing on Captain America. It will not feel like a war movie. It's funny where it needs to be and emotional where it needs to be and serious and full of action."

And he's not just an American hero, argues Evans. "I think he's the ideal human," says Evans. "Not just American. It's what being a good person is. Steve's managed to overcome all the shortcomings he's had in life and he does what's good and what he believes is right."

Lastly, an interview with Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark, where he talks about his character's role in the film.

And what do we find out about Howard Stark, Iron Man’s dad, whom you play in Captain America?
We learn the whole idea of where Stark Industries comes from, which is out of pure curiosity and creative juices and excitement towards thinking of the future and developing things for good. He’s a Howard Hughes. He’s a guy that loves inventing, that’s extremely intelligent, and that loves his lifestyle as well.

He’s a ladies’ man?
Absolutely. You’re never quite sure where he’s been or where he’s just come from. And it’s always like he’s just come from somewhere in a tuxedo, from showing people his inventions and his new flying machines. He’s great fun.

Is he a big part of the movie?
He’s important because he’s part of the machinery that helps Captain America manipulate his body.

Is he a father at this point?
No, he’s still a young man with lots of ambition in an extremely exciting time

For this, all of the set and prop shots I've seen look really shoddy and I think Evans is generally a bad choice for Rogers.

For Thor it's pretty much everything. I lol that they cast a black guy in the role of a character who is not only Caucasian, but whose nickname is literally "The White God". Not to mention the absurdity of an ethnic Viking god.

Also, no Shakespearean accent :/. I don't care how goofy it is, it's part of what made the gods of asgard unique and interesting in the comics.

The fact that Thor won't be screaming "I SAY THEE, NAY!" makes me sad.

Verily, this doth trouble mine own heart, as surely as it doth trouble thine my brother. But sooth, for the book of comics still spins yarns of bawdy, rowdy heroes of Asgard, and all will be well that ends well.

Even if the movie does fail epically, which I admit Thor looks like its gonna. I do want to give Evans a chance to play Cap and do it right, even if he was vastly more suited to be Torch. Am I expecting it? Not at all. Would it be a very pleasant surprise if he mans up and pulls it off anyway? Hell yes. And yeah, props and sets do look shoddy compared to what I see when I close my eyes and think "Captain America during WWII" and the costume is far too Ultimate inspired for my taste (where the fuck are my wings on the damn cowl? why is the cowl a goddamn helmet?) and so on. And I derailed there cause the more I talk the more I realize you're right, I got a bad feeling too.

And shit... alls not well that ends well, cause if these two are fucked to hell and back then Avengers will too be fucked to hell and back, invalidating parts of what Iron Man and Incredible Hulk were building towards and...

depression.gif

And of dear I've depressed myself again...

Edit: Maybe cause I have been up for days at a time fighting this bullshit insomnia but I somehow JUST spotted that yes, the helmet does have white wings... and they look so shitty I wish they'd just left em off now. Depression still stands.

Even if these films turn out shit I'm sure Whedon could do a good job of fixing a lot of the stupid.

Hallelujah, I had completely fucking forgotten about Whedon somehow. Faith restored, Joss could not only fix a lot of the stupid, I imagine he could get some comic relief just by having Sam L/Fury take one look at Cap and say "What the hell are you wearing?" or some other such. You amaze me Bats, you lead me into crushing despair and then right back out of it within like ten minutes.

I hate Nigger Fury. Nick Fury is an elderly white war veteran with a bad attitude, a taste for cigars and a gravely voice to go with it.

As much as I hate whitewashing I hate the reverse just as much. I keep hoping that Samuel L Jackson is just a holographic projection that disguises him.

Its hard for me to hate on anything Samuel L Jackson does (though definitely not impossible, all things draw hatred when hatred is due) but I hate the Ultimate-verse in general so I'd have preferred Nick Fury from the main Marvelverse. Fuck I am tired, but I wanna say 616 and I am sure that's right.

Whitewashing is bullshit for being racist or just unneeded. All other forms of Race-lift are bullshit for unnecessarily trying to "fix" racist crap when it should just go away (or just because its unneeded). That's all the fixing it requires, is to stop doing it. And so Race-lifts of all color annoy the shit out of me.

@The Batman: You may be right, it may require genuine mental retardation to fuck up Red Skull's look... but what part of Hollywood's track record makes you think they couldn't have done it? Can't give them points for getting this one thing right, but its still a relief just to see he's not fucking pink at this point.
