Castle

I forgot to make a thread about this show last week. It's a comedy-drama crime show based around a premise the lead actor, Nathan Fillion of Firefly fame, has described as "Moonlighting meets Murder, She Wrote having not really remembered Moonlighting and never having actually seen Murder, She Wrote." The show is based around the premise of a best-selling mystery novelist, Richard Castle (Fillion), who is brought on to the NYPD as a consultant for a case involving an apparent copycat killer who patterns his crimes after scenes in Castle's books. He is quickly taken by the idea of solving crimes, but not as taken as he is by murder investigator Kate Beckett (Stana Katic). Castle is able to use his friendship with the mayor to secure a place for himself to do "research" for his books. A large part of the show is centred around the UST between the two of them.

The show recently started its fifth season. Without giving too much away, I can reveal that the show has evolved the relationships between its characters (not just Castle and Beckett, but several of the supporting cast as well). The snappy dialogue is a charm to the show, as is the fact that the writers aren't afraid to tackle topical issues.

This can serve as a general all-purpose thread for discussing the show. Ideally, spoilers should be marked with the episode name, in case people new to the show want to read the thread, but if you're not sure of the name the season number can probably suffice.

By the way, there's an interview with Fillion that may serve as a good introduction to the show here.

Kat has been too busy doing this since May as seen in the Makes your day thread to be able to make this thread:

I started watching Castle earlier in the year and I loved it then Kat started streaming the earlier seasons in her effort to get us all addicted to it and she succeeded.

For all you Firefly fans the series there have been a few shout outs to it in Castle like Nathan Fillion saying "I was aiming for his head". Also Adam Baldwin guest started in an episode in season 4 and it was awesome.

Also yes Lex there was a new episode last night.

I would have thought that Kat would be all over this. :P

I knew Aaron was intending to make a thread so I restrained myself. It was hard. :monster:

OKAY NOW WHERE TO START WITH THIS SHOW

For those of you who don't know there is a IRL tie-in to the show via 4 novels and 1 comic (with another on the way) written by "Richard Castle", with the novels centered around Detective Nikki Heat (the character Castle based off Beckett) and the comics around Derek Storm (the character that made Castle such a success in the first place). They're entertaining enough as far as crime novels go and make lots of neat references to things that happen in the show as well as adding subtext to various character relationships. You can buy them off amazon or at pretty much any major bookstore.

Also, Richard Castle has his own website and his own twitter, which if I recall correctly is WriteRCastle, and is often hilarious.

So I have to say I'm loving how they're handling the Caskett relationship so far. The premiere really showed how dedicated they are to each other while the second ep showed how ABSOLUTELY FUCKING ADORABLE THEY ARE. Usually the show makes up some reason so that the summer hiatus translates into the show's timeline but I'm really glad they decided to skip that approach so we get to see the start of their official relationship (which is often the funnest part).

And speaking of fun I'm glad that for this season TPTB decided to go back to the more lighthearted tones of the first 2 seasons. As much as I love dramaz I really missed it.

Also on a random note I also really liked the scene between Beckett and Gates in the premiere. Gates needs more character development.

It helps that Caskett had chemistry from the start and the relationship was developed well thorough the first 4 seasons (not just romantic).

You wanted more Gates you have more Gates. :monster:

Also mother knows best. Martha like Laney has a very good sex radar.

Who wants to guess how long it will take the Caskett relationship to go public?

And the best part about that Tets, is (at least in my opinion) it just keeps getting better and better.

I personally prefer seasons 1, 2, and so far 5, but 3 and 4 are also awesome. Glad to hear you're enjoying it so far Tets. :monster:

I fucking love how the writers for this show and how they're willing to make shoutouts to the fans (like the
Esplanie and Caskett shipnames
.

Also, really looking forward to not only the next episode (with Castle being the mains suspect dun dun dun) but the one after that, in which they investigate a murder at a sci-fi convention :3.

edit: Forgot to mention that I love how
Ryan was the first one to figure out Castle and Beckett. That whole interrogation scene was hilarious.

Well technically Martha was first. :monster: My money would've been on Laney being the second.

Oh the geek references. :awesome:

Another coincidental one, Phil LaMarr in an episode about "vampires"...too bad he didn't actually play one of them. x)

There are quite a few Firefly references in it, even subtle ones. Keep an eye out :desu:

All the Nikki Heat ones are. The only Derrick Storm novel that has been defictionalised is Deadly Storm, and that's as a graphic novel only (thus far, anyway).
