So true.

I'd like to know how long the submission process usually takes, and at what point they hear back from Sony/MS. You have to think that it'd be soon, since early on they were still hopeful that it would be hitting in February.

I'm still hopeful that Resurrection won't be delayed. I have a feeling that with the expansion of the story, the wait between Reverie & Resurrection will feel even longer.

Looks like it'll be $9.99 on PSN (that's £6.85 or €7.99 for you UK/EU folks), or 800 MS Points on XBLA. It'll be out at/by the end of March. They've released some new screenshots & concept art too.

Update: David Cox responded to me via Twitter.

X-SOLDIER: Will the trailer be dropping soon, now that you know Reverie will be out at the end of March?

David Cox: Yep...real soon :)

Update 2: I downloaded the new images from Konami (linked above). It looks like the image names give some REALLY interesting hints to gameplay and storyline in Reverie. I'm going to spoiler tag them.

Update 3: If the images interst you, Rely on Horror has an awesome breakdown of the screenshots absolutely FULL of potential spoilers. I've also made some comments there that are worth contemplating if anyone wants to give it a look.

Tons of new news has popped up on Twitter about Reverie.

• Reverie will be 2 full chapters, and be around 3-4 hours in length (for standard gamers). They're shooting for somewhere around the same length for Resurrection.
• Each DLC will have new Trophies/Achievements and abilities.
• Any new ability that you gain in the DLC, you'll be able to use in the main game.
• They're currently working hard on Resurrection.
• Resurrection takes place after Reverie & before the Epilogue. It will be providing more insight into the events that take place in the Epilogue.
• The final battle in Resurrection is supposed to be "the shizzle".
• Gabriel/Dracul(a) in the Epilogue is in a weakened state, and has just awoken from a long sleep. He also hasn't fed for ~100 years.
• They've been considering a GOTY Edition with all of the DLC at some point, but nothing close to an announcement.

Lastly, I got a little shout out for a comment that I left on a site for a RoH Article about the Definition of Reverie & what it means. He said "Somebody commenting is paying attention :)" Hopefully that means that the speculation I made might give a little insight into some of the thought processes in Reverie. (A lot of it mirrors the things that Ryu was talking about earlier in this thread, which should be exciting).

It'd be a bit silly if they didn't go that route, given everything they set up.

And yes, I think they're playing with both definitions of reverie in effect, dazed and reflecting, until he makes his decision and moves on.

Aussie-Gamer is reporting that it's being released March 30th (like this means the 29th for PSN). While I'd normally take this with a grain of salt, they've also released the trailer.

Gabriel stands at the ledge, where he defeated Satan, staring off into the abyss, hearing voices in his mind.

Pan: “How far are you prepared to go, to uncover the truth?”

Carmilla: “Your God cannot save you now… You’ll be one of us eventually.”

Necromancer: “Look at you!! You revel in death!"

Satan: "God doesn’t love you. He let your beloved die!”

Laura's voice calls out.

Laura: “Gabriel. I need your help."

Finished the DLC, and I just gotta say You goddamn cockteases. While the DLC is fairly long, certainly longer than any of the TFU DLCs, it does not have any bosses, you don't get to play as Laura nearly long enough IMO, and the ending- which is what really gets me as the cocktease moment, ends with 'To be continued' in Ressurection, obviously.

Also, Gabby is our Narrator, and he himself does not believe he has choices, yet it is of his own volition that he comes to the Castle. Yet more interesting dichotomies.

I played through the DLC as well, and while it's a cocktease, the dichotomy isn't quite as black and white as that. Gabriel still doesn't really believe that he has a choice, but he's decided to stop fighting against the things that he feels are inevitable, and his comment about fate makes me think that's why he went to the castle. More in detail in the spoiler section.

I really enjoyed the puzzle aspects, and it felt like they're looking into most dynamic ideas for puzzles, which makes me hope that they're going to make a sequel that improves on everything that they did in the first game. I too would have liked one more battle with Laura, since the last time you play as her really gives you a feeling for how she plays. A boss fight would have been nice as well, especially because Reverie finishes up a chapter, and I believe that every other C:LoS chapter ended with a boss fight. There's a certain aquatic creature who I would have loved for them to have made into a boss fight, even though it doesn't close off the chapter.

As usual, RoH has a nice spoiler-free review.

Having Gabriel as the Narrator is a good move, because it starts by giving an insight into his feelings one the events from Lords of Shadow, which, to me are the absolute most important pieces in these DLC. Beating them was a completely hollow victory for Gabriel, and his feeling that fate just blows them like leaves in the wind is expecially important to his attitude. The backstory about the Forgotten One & the Founders of the Brotherhood (before they were the Lords of Shadow) were really interesting. Also, the fact that Frankenstein's fingers are littered around for you to find gives an extra taste of how much Carmilla absolutely HATED him.

The first chapter was an interesting revisit to previous locations, and seeing Ghouls and Skeletons roaming through the halls during the day time that were previously creeping with Vampires in the evening. The return to Laura's room and the chess board was nice, and the puzzle was clever.

Creeping around the water area was a little tough, and I wished that I had a little bit more time to just stop and look around, and the vastness of the bowels of the castle. My ONE complaint is that the water effects don't shimmer when you get higher up, and so they look a little off, but nothing too big. The platforming sections were really nice, especially with Laura being a little cocky the whole time. This is the one area where, when looking back, there could have been a boss fight that felt natural when leaving it. Fighting a Leviathan that was blocking the exit, or even a QTE-type event of Gabriel killing one would have been nice revenge, especially with the nicely animated death scene that they made. Also, the goddamn blade puzzle was BRUTAL. Laura using her mist form, like Alucard from SotN was also really interesting, and made for good gameplay.

The final areas puzzles were by far the most interesting. Though I had a little trouble with the controls doing what I wanted, the one hanging with the combat cross was well designed, and shows that the team has a lot of interesting ideas that I hope they get to impliment in a sequel. I really, really liked the Founders/Lords of Shadow's puzzles. Zobek's on Teleportation; Cornell's on moving in straight lines, like his dash; Carmilla's on blood.

Finishing off, I wish that Laura had explained a little bit more about WHY Gabriel couldn't proceed, or why one Dark Ones could enter the portal, and needed to take on her powers. (Possibly a little bit about how the Founders of the Brotherhood couldn't go past here, or how Carmilla kept it at bay). It's interesting that while he's somewhat manipulated into the situation, it's not really done without his knowledge, and in the end he makes the choice to continue that way, and takes Laura's powers of his own volition. Plus, something new comes from Gabriel taking a life. He's not destroying Laura, he's setting her free as she wishes, and taking up the mantle of his new powers. (Link to the ending cinematic for more details).

Hopes for Resurrection:

Gabriel is going to have new powers emerging. We know from the information that David Cox released via Twitter that anything new you obtain in the DLC, you keep for the main game. I can only assume that this means new powers. I'm suspecting that, since it was introduced as a mechanic, Gabriel's dodge will be modified in Resurrection to be similiar to the version Laura had. That being said, I don't see it moving as far, or as fast, and instead, staying a little bit closer to the range of his current dodge, but allows him to get through gates (similiar to Alucard having the "Mist form" vs. the upgraded "Power of the Mist" in Symphony of the Night). On top of that, giving him a blood-draining grapple move, even if it's only against specific enemies would be awesome, though I don't see it coming around as long as he continues to use his Light Magic for healing, (but as a Vampire, I don't think that he'll be able to use the Combat Cross forever).

Lastly, is the Forgotten One. The devs have been talking about making the boss fight incredibly epic, and with the lack of any boss fight in Reverie, I can only hope that it's spectacular. Having never played Lament of Innocence, I don't really know anything about him, but the boss fight was apparently 3 stages, and just massive, which bodes well for potential. I'm hoping that, because it's a boss fight, we'll get some in-game cutscenes, rather than just the artistic onces that Reverie had. They weren't bad, but I think that going out with a bang would be more interesting to see in-game Gabriel at the end.

Well, the dichotomy is between Choice and Fate, and the interesting way is the subtlety of that conflict. Gabby surrenders to fate, but even in doing so he makes choices, defies things.

I really enjoyed the puzzle aspects, and it felt like they're looking into most dynamic ideas for puzzles, which makes me hope that they're going to make a sequel that improves on everything that they did in the first game.

Considering Resurrection is not shaping up to go beyond the epilogue, I'm rather certain they're planning on a Sequel.
Also, I had a rather unusual thought what with this whole Time travel mess.
Non Bifurcating Time travel.
Put another way, Dracula v Belmont... and they're the same man. Not where they're headed, but an amazing thought nonetheless, and goes well with the recurring duality theme.

I too would have liked one more battle with Laura, since the last time you play as her really gives you a feeling for how she plays.

I'd like a bit more room to maneuver with her in addition. Heck, a purely Laura DLC would be fun, provided they gave her some added abilities and maneuverability. Like a Jump.

A boss fight would have been nice as well, especially because Reverie finishes up a chapter, and I believe that every other C:LoS chapter ended with a boss fight.

Not all of them, but the majority, yes.

There's a certain aquatic creature who I would have loved for them to have made into a boss fight, even though it doesn't close off the chapter.

Agreed. I was kind of waiting for it when I saw the swing point, but then there wasn't any ground below.

Having Gabriel as the Narrator is a good move, because it starts by giving an insight into his feelings one the events from Lords of Shadow, which, to me are the absolute most important pieces in these DLC. Also, the fact that Frankenstein's fingers are littered around for you to find gives an extra taste of how much Carmilla absolutely HATED him.

I don't disagree about his mindset at all, and that's much of the light in which he feels he has no choice and is surrendering to destiny but still making his own choices etc. etc.
And yes, Carmilla HATED that fucker. Which brings me to a secondary question re: CD:LOS timeline... How did Mary Shelley discover his story in their world?

The first chapter was an interesting revisit to previous locations, and seeing Ghouls and Skeletons roaming through the halls during the day time that were previously creeping with Vampires in the evening. The return to Laura's room and the chess board was nice, and the puzzle was clever.

It's also important since it shows us very powerful vampires CAN go out in the daytime, if not direct sunlight, in the LOSverse. This is interesting to me, since only Once, in the SNES Dracula X has Drac Himself died as a result of the sun.

Creeping around the water area was a little tough, and I wished that I had a little bit more time to just stop and look around, and the vastness of the bowels of the castle. My ONE complaint is that the water effects don't shimmer when you get higher up, and so they look a little off, but nothing too big. Fighting a Leviathan that was blocking the exit, or even a QTE-type event of Gabriel killing one would have been nice revenge, especially with the nicely animated death scene that they made.

Yes, I expected a QTE the first time I fell in. Nope. Also the only tough part of the water level was the wall climb. It took me a number of retries to realize to JUST hit x and no other direction. A bit counter intuitive, that one.

Also, the goddamn blade puzzle was BRUTAL. Laura using her mist form, like Alucard from SotN was also really interesting, and made for good gameplay.

I only found it brutal on the challenge, when it has to be going at max speed at all times. It's otherwise pretty easy.

The final areas puzzles were by far the most interesting. Though I had a little trouble with the controls doing what I wanted, the one hanging with the combat cross was well designed, and shows that the team has a lot of interesting ideas that I hope they get to impliment in a sequel. Apparently, they were modified later as well, so they're the Founder's AND the Lord's puzzles. Which makes me wonder what was changed and what wasn't.

Finishing off, I wish that Laura had explained a little bit more about WHY Gabriel couldn't proceed, or why one Dark Ones could enter the portal, and needed to take on her powers. As for the Forgotten One, yeah, it was an Epic boss fight, especially when playing as Joachim.
I can only hope they have big plans for this incarnation.

Completely agreed. He's not quite as defiant as I was expecting, he's a little more downtrodden, and is still going about the series of events basically how I expected, but the specifics are very different.

Me as well, and it'd be intersting to so how it goes about it. Your idea about time travel hadn't even occurred to me, but it presents an amazing opportunity for a Doppleganger fight. It would be interesting to see, though a little complex due to how it would fit in with Dracul(a) surviving.

I'd like a bit more room to maneuver with her in addition. Heck, a purely Laura DLC would be fun, provided they gave her some added abilities and maneuverability. Like a Jump.

While I agree, I think that the reason that they avoided making her more maneuverable was to ensure that you'd need to use the blood-draining grapple. If they did a more Laura-centric DLC, I'd be much more inclined to think that they'd open up her mobility.

I wonder if, mutilated hands an all, if Frankenstien is still alive somewhere in the castle. Carmilla had been keeping him unnaturally alive as punishment, and apparently now also cut off his fingers to potentially prevent him from continuing to work. That in addition to some of the documentation by the Brotherhood may provide an opportunity for her to have discovered the story.

It's also important since it shows us very powerful vampires CAN go out in the daytime, if not direct sunlight, in the LOSverse. This is interesting to me, since only Once, in the SNES Dracula X has Drac Himself died as a result of the sun.

I don't know HOW this didn't even occur to me at the time I played through, but that's an EXCELLENT point. I hadn't even noticed it in the images that were released, or even when I played it. It's interesting that the cut scene that occurs.

Yes, I expected a QTE the first time I fell in. Nope. Also the only tough part of the water level was the wall climb. It took me a number of retries to realize to JUST hit x and no other direction. A bit counter intuitive, that one.
Hahaha. I did the exact same thing. Glad to see I'm not alone.

I only found it brutal on the challenge, when it has to be going at max speed at all times. It's otherwise pretty easy.
Is there a speed that's best to keep it at, or just adjusting it as you move? I think my issue was slightly mis-judging the range of the blades, and I kept barely bumping them in inconvenient locations. Haven't gone back to that one yet.

Apparently, they were modified later as well, so they're the Founder's AND the Lord's puzzles. Which makes me wonder what was changed and what wasn't.

I'm really curious to see how the earlier levels will work if his combat changes.

I feel the same as you, and it's why I'm hoping that they'll augment his combat a little bit. I also kinda of hope for a slight modification to his character model, now that he's gone Vampiric (even if it's enableable/disableable, like the MSG elements). I could see him abandoning the Combat Cross at the very end of Resurrection, once his transformation fully takes hold, but still using it for all the gameplay during the chapter (and thus also when you go back to other levels). Fingers still crossed for some awesome new powers, though.

I believe these are supposed to represent his recollection, but yes, a fully rendered end cutscene would be nice.

Interesting, I hadn't thought of it that way, but it makes sense, expecially since Gabriel is speaking in reflection about how he felt at the time.

As for the Forgotten One, yeah, it was an Epic boss fight, especially when playing as Joachim.
I can only hope they have big plans for this incarnation.

Well, it's entirely possible to do it at full speed- you actually have to do it AT full speed the entire time to beat the challenge, but what worked for me was to position myself all the way to the right, move left twice, have Laura amp up twice, then move once the blades cleared Gab's feet, hop up, keep moving left, move down when the lower blade passes, then keep going left. You should make it to the bottom left as that set of vertical blades are going up. Follow them up, hugging the absolute left, but make sure they clear your handhold entirely before going up, then hug left. After that, do not rush, all the remaining blade sections are easily taken slowly, and the last section must be taken thusly. If you go straight across, you clip the last blade. Wait one second, then zerg rush to the end.
And yes, if you take damage OR slow down the blade at any point, you fail the challenge. Nice of them to provide a checkpoint right before it, eh?

You guys never got the Rondo of Blood remake for PSP? That has SOTN on it with some extras, like Maria Mode.

Though IIRC the PSN ver is a faithful PSX port.
You can create a US PSN account and DL that way. It's how I got my demo of Catherine.

Finished the game. Kept wondering where the fuck Dracula is and why I'm
fighting Satan instead (although it is my understanding that Dracula in the other CV games was pretty much like Satan anyway). The ending answered the question in a way...I kinda saw coming for some reason. :wacky:

I also knew Zobek wouldn't be a good character. He seemed way too friendly and too interested in Gabriel's quest succeeding so I always had my doubts about him. x)

I also finished it just in time for the DLC which is finally gonna be released this week. :P

From the series that gave us Dio Brando as a boss, the white rabbit from Alice as an encounter enemy, a 'giant enemy crab/ weakpoint for massive damage' reference, and that's just a few of the sillier things they've tossed in, this doesn't surprise me, even in the more serious LOS.

Also- imagine this being sung by a certain gentleman.
"It's Necromancy.
We do what we must, because- we can.
For the good of all of us.
Using the ones who are dead."
