I quite enjoyed the level and design of this one. It was nice to see something unique from the castle, which - while new - felt familiar. I actually (mostly) preferred the instant death to the "you messed up and are now down a portion of health." The bit where you finish climbing with the lava right behind you and have to jump to the wooden walkway wasn't clear, because my jump was off the first couple times, so I spent 4 seconds insta-dying there about 10-times in a row, which was rather poorly implemented I felt.
The first battle was really well done, except that I forgot that blocking was the same as dodge, so I spent a needlessly long time not reflecting his light ball. I did like the justification of how you defeated him though, when his power was used to open the seal.
The only thing that I disliked about the second bit was not knowing (at first) that I could run past the damn skeletons. They were a complete waste of time that just ended up hurting me, so I just reset to the checkpoint and dashed to the exit. The final battle was harder, but appropriately so, and no complaints here.
That said, the implications of the ending are quite interesting, with Gabriel absorbing his energies, but I wish that they'd have done a little bit more with Gabriel's transformation sickness progression that he's going through at the beginning. I didn't expect him to abandon the Combat Cross by shattering it, but it was very appropriate. I also liked that he referred to himself as "the dragon" so it gives rise to the name Dracul. It also explains why he ends up being SO much more badass than any of the Lords of Shadow quite well. That being said, I don't know if a sequel would follow his story, or someone else's. It will be very interesting either way.
Also - the Monty Python & The Holy Grail joke actually got me to laugh out loud, because it was so utterly unexpected.
