I'm with OWA-2 on this. I don't see a difference. Sephiroth's body is composed of JENOVA's physical material and he controls all of JENOVA's physical material that isn't in SOLDIERs. Ergo, JENOVA's body is his body and JENOVA's powers are his powers.

But at those points of the game, it wasn't Sephiroth. It was still Jenova, separate from him. He might have those abilities himself, but I just think it would make more sense to look at appearances that actually involved him.

No, it was all Sephiroth. He was using Jenova's body like a puppeteer uses a marionette, all of the speeches and actions coming from it's body were being done by Sephiroth. There was no Jenova after Sephiroth took control of it's body in the ShinRa building, just Sephiroth's Jenova puppet.

That's the same thing as saying "It wasn't Hojo talking to Vincent, it was Weiss".

No, it's the same as saying Weiss was essentially Hojo at that point, but Hojo made use of Weiss' abilities.
I think that's what he's saying in regards to Seph and Jenova.

Even if it was being controlled by Sephiroth at that point, the man you're chasing in the first half of FFVII is Jenova. Even though Sephiroth is in charge, the only ability he's displaying is the ability to control Jenova. So the stuff you see in that part of the game, creating illusions and maybe-teleporting-depending-on-who-you-ask, are its powers. Sephiroth could have them too (like teleporting in CC which I don't really remember, or maybe if you consider Supernova's planet destroying a illusion). I just think it would make better sense to use his scenes instead of the ones where he's using Jenova.

Seeing as how in Advent Children Sephiroth's physical body is made of purely Jenova matter, any and all powers she had are readily available to Sephiroth. There's no reason to think that AC Sephiroth wouldn't have all of Jenova's powers.

Really, if his body is made of the same material, he controls all that material, and he has access to the abilities JENOVA had and could use with that material -- well, why isn't that Sephiroth's power?

For that matter, are there even any scenes in the game where we see Sephiroth's body post-Nibelheim slaughter and it's not composed of JENOVA's physical material in some way?

Well, it's not made wholly of that material, it's mostly the Gaian version of pyreflies, but that is all the rest so the comparison is definitely valid in AC/C, but we dunno if it's definitely the case when he's a 'mere superhuman' that he has access to all of the abilities of Jenova. Certainly none of the other SOLDIERS do, not even the other project Children, have access to such.
