I hope that voice acting director got his act together this time. I remember Burton complaining about not being told anything by him either (not that Burton has any reason to think talking... like this is a good default setting for Cloud).

Did he really? That is interesting. Does Dissidia use a different director than the rest of Square's projects? Because, XII, XIII, and even Birth By Sleep had some pretty solid voice acting (although I'm not sure if Disney handles Kingdom Hearts')

(Also, "Kujie-coo," oh Kefka :P)

Yeah, I was really surprised on just how different it was. Kudos to him.

Kefka is still fucking amazing this time around.

This might justify Dissidia's entire existence right here.

DP for epik update. If Awesome fucked Hilarious, the result would be Kefka (4:15 onward). BTW, love the oh-so-subtle subtext with his dialogue towards Terra.

EDIT - "You're different from me. You're strong." Okay, screw that, Terra could turn Vaan into a blackened lump of melted fat you could fit into a purse in the time it takes to blink, that line is bs.

Kefka sounds oddly like Mark Hamill's interpretation of The Joker with a slight head cold in this scene. Which is appropriate, so two thumbs up.

I don't usually like Vaan, but the way he spoke to Terra and how he treated her despite her being on the opposite team, and seeing through that people are just people, really makes me feel that Vaan is a very likable fellow. Terra, however. I'm sick and tried of her being like a weakling that always gets picked on. It also pains me that she's forgotten about her the people that have cared about her and made her stronger, like Locke. :(

Remember Terra from FFVI? That woman who was all "Quit swooning!" to Locke and Edgar while killing magitek soldiers? The one who went on a morphing fugue and blew up a bunch of mountains? Where the hell did SHE go?

Terra being reduced to barely even a charicature of her original self, Samus Aran being turned into a helpless little child... Why can't these great female gaming characters remain awesome? This makes me grumpy.

Oh, you must mean the green-haired Terra. Yeah she only stars in the battles; she refuses to do the acting scenes because of 'creative differences' between her and Square.

But you know who else got all the spunk sucked out of her, Penelo.

WoL: "He's picked up some ground and aerial abilities, so he can take on anyone. He doesn't question himself at all. I wish I could be that confident in myself."

Garland: "Still a little difficult to master, but he can now attack from a variety of distances. The man beneath the mask is revealed!? He's... really something else underneath..."

Firion: "Firion is a versatile player on the ground. It seems he's gotten stronger this time around... He's a very straightforward type of guy, and seeing him carry all those weapons is really manly!"

Emperor: "He's gotten stronger with a new trap that's camouflaged as EX Force. Still the same old nasty guy, but his new costume looks pretty cool..."

OK: "He's picked up a few steps this time and learned a couple skills to improve his abilities. The tiny and adorable Onion Knight! He'll get upset if I say that too much..."

CoD: "On top of her arsenal of HP attacks, she's gained a few new bravery attacks, which really change based on when a combo is used. She's as sexy and as dangerous as ever! Oh, and those snake things make a really strong showing too!"

Cecil: "Using a HP attack on the ground will change his job to Dark Knight, while a HP attack in midair will change him to a Paladin. A couple attacks can only be used by a certain job. He can freely use the powers of both the light and darkness, but I really dig that Paladin look!"

Golbez: "He can attack both near and far enemies with a single attack. Not only that, he's added some mid-range attacks to his arsenal now! I can't believe he's showing off his face (skin?) this time! He really has a kind face."

Kain: "A midair specialist and master of jumping! using Air Dash makes him able to do some amazing things! The ever-popular Kain finally makes his debut! Guys who shoulder a burden sure are intriguing."

Bartz: "He mimics other characters and uses their weapons. He's managed to mimic moves from a couple of the new fighters too! You'll need to keep these skills in mind now as well. He's got an upbeat personality like Vaan, and he's wearing that fan-favorite get-up too!"

Exdeath: "His basic attack pattern is to block and then counterattack! He can cancel some attacks with a block too and he seems to learn a really strong HP attack later on. His face is pretty... scary..."

Terra: "She's a long-range magic specialist. Spells that activate at the feet of a foe are fierce and she's learned a couple branching spells too! Her new outfit is so cute! Now, now, no peeking you guys!"

Kefka: "He mocks enemies with his tricky long-range magic spells! But they might be easier to read now. He still uses that annoying dance, but the more you look at him, the fonder he becomes..."

Cloud: "He sends enemies flying with that huge sword and has learned some new midair attacks. The popular Mister Cloud. He's so cool."

Sephiroth: "He uses his really long sword to attack from a distance and can now use quick mid-range attacks. Another popular character in the series. He's quite dreamy..."

Tifa: "A brawler with many quick-hitting attacks! Press X before landing a blow to use a feint and fake out opponents! She's very energetic! There are so many traits she has that I wish I had..."

Squall: "He's skilled in close-range attacks and mid-range magic. He's improved his skill, making it easier to connect on attacks. He has a great masculine tank-top outfit... Fans have to check it out!"

Ultimecia: "She casts powerful spells by methods such as quickly tapping or charging buttons. Her new bravery attack can be used as a shield! Looks like she's picked up a teacher's outfit and is willing to exhibit her sorceress powers!"

Laguna: "He uses a plethora of mid-range attacks by methods such as quickly tapping or charging buttons to chase his enemies around! He's a happy-go-lucky man, but he's the type of person you can really trust."

Zidane: "If midair combat's for you, he's your man! His magic attacks have become easier to control. And he's disguised himself as a Knight of Pluto! Seeing him in such understated clothes is pretty refreshing."

Kuja: "He still likes to glide around and fire off spells. He can now bombard his opponents from above too! He still acts too cool for my liking, but he's actually someone to pity with all the trouble he's faced..."

Tidus: "Dodging and the counterattacking? He's definitely your man! He's also learned a new trick to use some attacks in the air now too! Talk about young! His youth is on full display when he comes running in with no shirt!"

Jecht: "Time your attacks just right to make them stronger and chain it just right to deal HP damage! The kicker? He fires beams from his eyes! He's a little hard around the edges, but he's really a softy inside. I'm jealous that Tidus had such a dad to look over him."

Yuna: "She calls on her many Aeons to fight for her. Each has its own distinct trait. She's such a nice person I wish I can become friends with her..."

Shantotto: "She strings together HP attacks with combos. She can make easy work of any opponent if she can string together a chain of spells. It's rumored that she's learned a jamming spell. She's definitely tiny and probably gets stepped on all the time."

Vaan: "Skilled in using a variety of weapons, he can use a special attack when switching (SW) between them! Finally he turns up! My hero! I'm just glad that he seems to be staying out of trouble..."

Gabranth: "Once he enters EX Mode, he really gets going! Good luck filling up that EX Gauge! He now has a long-range bravery attack that can hit enemies in midair. He appears as he did when he framed Basch. I... this brings back too many memories for me..."

Lightning: "A well-balanced fighter who switches her roles (whatever that is) to match the situation, but distance seems to be the key factor in when to change roles... I wonder if people will think I'm more mature if I change my name too..."

Prishe: "She's a feisty girl who's skilled at chaining together flashy combos. Spend some time customizing her! She's got to be reliable with all that spunk! I think we can become fast friends...."

Gilgamesh: "You never know what weapon this kook will use, and you might need to be very lucky for him to be effective... I can't bring myself to dislike this guy with his clumsy actions."

She died her hair and started talking in a fake, ultra feminine & childish voice because that's apparently what women at SE do if they're not carrying guns.

Kefka sounds oddly like Mark Hamill's interpretation of The Joker with a slight head cold in this scene. Which is appropriate, so two thumbs up.

Dave Wittenberg is the reason why I began to like Kefka.

But you know who else got all the spunk sucked out of her, Penelo.]

Terra: "She's a long-range magic specialist. Spells that activate at the feet of a foe are fierce and she's learned a couple branching spells too! Her new outfit is so cute! Now, now, no peeking you guys!"
Too late for that, Penelo XD

Kefka: "He mocks enemies with his tricky long-range magic spells! But they might be easier to read now. He still uses that annoying dance, but the more you look at him, the fonder he becomes..."
Spot on for me.

Tifa: "A brawler with many quick-hitting attacks! Press X before landing a blow to use a feint and fake out opponents! She's very energetic! There are so many traits she has that I wish I had..."
Sure she has.

Ultimecia: "She casts powerful spells by methods such as quickly tapping or charging buttons. Her new bravery attack can be used as a shield! Looks like she's picked up a teacher's outfit and is willing to exhibit her sorceress powers!"
I hope it's the only thing she's willing to exhibit.

Jecht: "Time your attacks just right to make them stronger and chain it just right to deal HP damage! The kicker? He fires beams from his eyes! He's a little hard around the edges, but he's really a softy inside. I'm jealous that Tidus had such a dad to look over him."
Am I the only one disturbed that she then said he had the body of a bronze god?

Shantotto: "She strings together HP attacks with combos. She can make easy work of any opponent if she can string together a chain of spells. It's rumored that she's learned a jamming spell. She's definitely tiny and probably gets stepped on all the time."
Not enough times, I dare to say.

Lightning: "A well-balanced fighter who switches her roles (whatever that is) to match the situation, but distance seems to be the key factor in when to change roles... I wonder if people will think I'm more mature if I change my name too..."
Only if you are named after a pastry.

Gilgamesh: "You never know what weapon this kook will use, and you might need to be very lucky for him to be effective... I can't bring myself to dislike this guy with his clumsy actions."
Gilgamesh is too lovable to dislike him.

Chickification annoys me. But, in a way it seems like Terra has put shoved all her natural badass into Esper-Terra. Cause Esper-Terra will still fuck you up without blinking... right?

Esper-Terra will still fuck you without blinking... right?

I wish...

I just saw the scene where
Terra fights the Manikins that are heading to Cosmos' throne to protect her, going "I'll fight. Not to destroy...to protect!"
And you know, that's a nice saving throw on her and is a nice throw-back to FF6 with her revelation at Mobliz. But it kinda gets completely spit on when you consider that in the next cycle of war her memories get erased and her surge of resolve and courage is lost with them, and she goes back to being a helpless shrinking violet.

Aeris died and never came back. She got off easy.

Tifa never got to become her own character. Even if this game she's still getting saved and supporting everyone else.

Aeris may have gotten herself killed doing something stupid, but she still had the strength to strike out on her own and do what she had to, to save the world knowing she might not come back.

It's hard not to. I'm at a loss as to how any Terra fan can like her Dissidia incarnation. I mean, yeah every suffers a degree of flanderization here, but she's like a totally different person.

Thank god she's still an absolute beast in battle.
