I'd hope for another FFXII character but that would be taking up another slot for FFXII and not for another game.

Which wouldn't be a problem if you'd just make this a PS3 game or something where you could have 50GB of characters.

You don't need to directly interact with someone face-to-face to rival them.

Ashe is the true hero of FF12. She's the driving force of the plot, most of the antagonists concern themselves with her, the protagonists are allied together to help her, and as such most of the story centers around her. She should have been in over Vaan three times over.

true hero=/=main character, not that i agree that she does anything with the attention she gets other then be someone Balthier says cool lines too but whatever.

I wasn't planning on getting the English one, so now I have to wonder if the Japanese guy has better diction now or will still be shouting stuff like "OIYOIYO!!!" throughout the game.

You know who had no problems speaking clearly? Pretty much everyone else in that game.

There is a direct confrontation between these two characters REGARDLESS of how many scenes they have together.

And you really think X was better voice-acted than XIII, Dac? Vanille and Hope were pretty bad, but everyone else was good - with both Lightning and Sazh being excellent.

I found Hope and Snow's excellent, and I fucking hated Snow. I recently downloaded all the cutscenes (because lol) and rewatched it and their VAs really nailed it. There were some scenes that were terribly written- but because their VAs were so good, it sold the entire thing. Hope's acts breathy and confused most of the time because he was shell-shocked for a good portion of the game.

The other person I would put as great is Dysley's. He did an amazing job carrying the character when there was little to carry.

Fang, Sazh, and Lightnings were good too. There were times when I felt Sazh was a little too gravely at times, and something about Lightnings :/ me at times. But then I realized Lightning has the same VA as Liara, and so that was just my subconscious spite coming out.

The only points I found terrible were the side characters and Vanille. Rosh was just embarrassing.

Rewatching the cutscenes, there is no way X is better than XIII's dub, imo. For the main characters, other than the misstep in Vanille, they casted very well and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Agreed.

It was a war between nations, and Ashe's existence was a direct threat to Vayne's control over Dalmasca. Their relationship wasn't as intimate as Sephiroth-Cloud, but they may as well be opposite sides of the same coin. He held her kingdom over her, and she held a weapon of mass destruction over Archadia.

Everything pretty much happens in twos, even rivalries. Ashe-Vayne goes along with Cid-Balthier and Basch-Gabranth. Venant didn't have a direct hero rival, but Venant is the most heroic character in the game.

I'd rather have Balthier, but Ashe pretty much is the central character. Vaan is a POV character, he's not suppose to be important. Like, Nick from Great Gatsby or something. He's the tag along kid that gets to see and tell the story. He gets to become his own main character in later games because of the influence of XII, but in game- he's just suppose to be "that kid"

Maybe that's what Vaan is doing here. Balthier didn't make it into Dissidia because of War of the Lions, Zack got into BBS and he ain't here. Ashe and Basch got their very own game coming up, should they be in this too? I mean Yuna didn't even make it into Dissidia because FFX was told from Tidus' point of view.

Isn't as significant? It's Vayne's sole reason for doing anything and it leads Ashe throughout their journey. Not to mention that all that would mean nothing in Dissidia.

It's not the main reason they become rivals. The sole act of Vayne bringing down Dalmasca, for whatever reason is the catalyst in the animosity from Ashe and co. and the only reason she becomes a thorn in Vayne's side, forcing him to take action against her.
