That was an intense and unexpected turn.

I'm actually afraid for the final episode again.

Good god that was a great episode.

So... What do you think that the Doctor saw in his room?

The only thing I noticed was the TARDIS making it's "something's amiss" noise.

X :neo:
I reckon the Doctor's room had dead Amy in it, or many dead previous companions..

IMO, it was
Gallifrey being freed from the Time Lock. Destruction of the universe and all that jazz would put an end to the Doctor's shenanigans
.

But who were the Weeping Angels for?

(It's aired in America, we can post without spoiler tags)

They were for the David Walliams moleman character, because he fears a race that ONLY wants to kill, and never oppress/enslave you. I think that since the Minotaur also only wants to kill him, he loses his faith in anything because he assumes that he won't escape, and doesn't fall into the "Praise him." routine. (Amy falls into it, but she sees her room after that).

And what does the Doctor believe in?
And unless I'm much mistaken, weren't we given proof an episode or two ago that her faith in Rory is as great as her faith in the Doctor?
I think they've done a great job creating a believable friendship between the Doctor and Amy, while avoiding the romance that ultimately pulled the dynamic between the Doctor and Rose out of shape (IMHO).
I have come to absolutel love Matt Smith as the Doctor. I thought his flashes of utter loneliness and almost-despair were very well done. But they can only draw that out for so long. Or can they....?

Her faith in Rory is a tempered one, born of years. It's real. It's TRUST.
The Faith in the Doctor was idealized, a hero worship, not yet tempered. What he did was temper that this episode, to be less faith and more trust.

It's quite like 7 and Ace, IMO. Or 2 and Jamie.

I think they're headed for something with it.

Also, I'm guessing the Doctor's room was filled with many of the people that have died on his watch, especially his old companions.

I wonder how they'll address the fact that the Doctor's apparently been wandering on his own for 200 years, since it was only very lightly hinted at during "Closing Time" I believe that the clips of his shenanigans during the beginning of Series 6 are supposed to be what he was doing on his own, as well as cover what exactly he's been doing to attempt to restore his reputation as a Madman with a Box, rather than a great warrior.

Also - best theory I've heard so far: The eyepatches have an image of the Silence on them, and thus the people with them- Madame Kovarian & TONS of other people in the upcoming episode can see them without ever forgetting about them (since she sees the Silence in the background behind River and isn't at all startled by them).

If that's at all CLOSE to what they are, suddenly the clip of River with an eyepatch is a lot less frightening in a bad way, and badass in a good way.

It's an interesting idea. I never suspected River eyepatch was intended to be a bad thing. Maybe a confusing one. Like Kovy was an alternate future Valeyard River. Or River taking a trophy.

The thing about the Doctor being the madman in the box is that's so much what the Doctor wants to be, but has never really been. His antics over the years- BTW, he is so much older than this series claims- might be convincing HIMSELF he's the madman in the box, so he can forget all his terrible burdens. What he's done, and worse, what he's failed to do.

So....

There's something that lends credibility to the eyepatch theory...

It's the image for the finale of Series 6, "The Wedding of River Song"

The good news is that io9's spoiler-free review says that if you enjoyed A Good Man Goes to War and Let's Kill Hitler then the finale will not disappoint. If the flaws in those episode bothered you, then you'll probably find the same things in the finale, but the themes that they've been working towards all season play out, and we also get some really good payoff to long standing questions. (Plus even more to ponder for 2012).

Okay, did someone spill Final Fight/ Street Fighter into my Dr. Who? I see a one eyed Rolento in that image.

And that's a good thing

@ X: My son was running round and yelling whilst the ep was on, so I wasn't too clear on some of the dialogue. It makes more sense now, thanks. :)

@ Ryu: That is fucking awesome, I need a gigantic poster version of that for my niece RIGHT NOW.

So, the season finale was brilliant, and nothing like what I'd expected. I actually was surprised at how well it managed to wrap a number of the points up in a single episode. Typical Moffat style, there are more breadcrumbs left behind, and I assume that a lot of them are pointing towards big plans for the 50th Anniversary, since I can only assume that the wheels are already in motion for that.

There still are some unanswered questions from last season though.
• What was outside Amy's House at the end of Series 5?
• It's quite obviously the work of the Silence, but how did they manage to blow up the TARDIS at the end of Series 5?
• Why doesn't Amy remember some things like the Daleks in the beginning of Series 5, when she seems to remember so many other things?
• The Doctor's shenanigans at the beginning of Series 6.

Aside from that, for me the biggest unexpected moments of badassery were:
• The Doctor's absolutely wicked speech to the dying Dalek.
• The Headless Monk Skulls still being alive eating the man from the Silence.
• Amy killing Kovarian, and saying that River didn't get everything just from the brainwashing. WICKED, though Kovarian's still alive in the Real World.

Rewatch Silence in the Library & Forest of the Dead again now. The conversations at the beginning when Donna & the Doctor arrive in the Library and at the end that are very pertinent to the themes from the finale, and carry a ton more meaning now.

Overall, the two biggest points that I had assumed did come to pass:
• The Doctor had already averted his own death, and is attempting to operate in obscurity again, much more like what 9 did so as to avoid his reputation/infamy. (Though, after his speech to Dorium about Rose/Jack/etc, I have to wonder how much we'll still see his defiant, 'time is not the boss of me' personality).
• The question was, "Doctor Who?"

The new breadcrums make me think that
Matt Smith may be planning to go out with a bang at the 50th anniversary, because they talk about the fall of the 11th. Really, if he's planning on exiting the show, it'd be hard to find a way to go out on a high note more than at the conclusion of the 50th anniversary.

Looking forward to every one else's thoughts.

So, saw this with friends.

It was quite hilarious from beginning to end.

So, all of time on earth happening at once was unexpected. But amusing, and an excellent way to start the ep. I thought it was Pete's world for a moment.
Love Dickens' doing the talk circuit. I need to see who that was. He looked familier.

Amy ability to remember things is again an interesting plot point, but it seems like it's not perfect. Might explain why she can't remember Last Year's Dalek's

Lethbridge-Steward officially passing is the saddest moment of the episode. At least Sarah Jane can be theoretically still alive in that universe despite Liz Sladen until future notice.

Fucking with a fixed point in time- Things have to happen, but they don't have to happen how people think they happen. There's a fixed point in time we still have hanging over our heads in the series. At least two.

The doctor faking his own death was obvious, though I will call good show on using a body fake in two completely different ways in the same season without it seeming too contrived.

Rory outdid his badass moment this episode. He's not always effective, but goddamn is he determined. "It already has, Marm" is such a badass line.
I hope that Amy and Rory become regulars, even after they stop being companions, just because they're great characters.

Fall of the 11th probably means 11's exit, but it could be anything. Troll senses tingling.

The answer is 'Foreman.'

There's a video from the final episode of Doctor Who Confidential that shows River's entire timeline from her perspective thus far. io9 has it in text if anyone prefers to skim over it.

I'm sad that I haven't gotten to any epiosdes with The Brigadier yet, as I've been rather lazy about watching through Classic Who (I'm in the middle of Season 2 still), though it's one of those moments that came through really well, even though I wasn't aware of who his character was, I caught that it was a Classic Who character reference.

Also, here's the 4 Mins sketch "Death is the Only Answer" produced for the final Confidential episode.

I think that you beat me to the punch by like five minutes. Fail.

I'll wait for more information before I can really give any real thoughts on the project. Obviously depends largely on who they get to play the Doctor and who pens the script. Personally I'm hpping for some amazing Hugh Laurie/Neil Gaiman combo there :awesome:

David Yates as a director is a good start though.
