How the hell did no-one spot the Statue of Liberty moving? Also, didn't the whole "weeping angels" thing used to be because they covered their eyes so they wouldn't lock each other into their disguise with their own eyes? Plenty of angels moving while looking at each other this time.

I'm also wondering if the angels in Blink were so weak due to the events in Saturday's episode.

Did you edit that in after your original poast? I didn't see it :monster:

Regarding the Statue of Liberty, it could be that it was late at night and people couldn't see. That's the explanation I'm going with, anyway :monster:

As for the angels moving in each other's sight, they did that in "The Time of Angels" and "Flesh and Stone" as well. It only seems to have been in "Blink" that they had to cover their eyes in each other's presence. Could be to do with the fact that the ones in "Blink" were really weak. Idk.

First, we also don't know if the Angels see like we do. It could be that they have very narrow, and directionally specific vision. They could still freeze each other by looking directly at one another.

Secondly, they could stand behind one another in fairly large numbers, and so long as they're looking over the shoulder of the other angels, they shouldn't have any issues moving as a group, and even then, they'd only temporarily interrupt each others' movements. Plus, they move so fast, that even if one DID interrupt one of the others momentarily, it wouldn't make a damn bit of difference to the humans they're chasing.

The issue (and reason they cover their faces) is the possibility of suddenly coming face-to-face with another angel, because then NEITHER of them can move. I don't properly recall seeing angels like this during any of the episodes with the Angels, although they may have been like that with The Doctor and River in the hotel room, but in their defense, we also don't see those angels LEAVE that room either.

I think we should start with the reboot and when we've caught up to the present go back to the old-school beginning :monster:

I think we should, too.

The old school stuff is going to be so jarring, though. I tried to watch a bit of Tom Baker a short while ago and I was like, "Wow, really?"

I'd be willing to give it more of a chance, though. :P

Most of the old episodes I've seen have been Tom Baker episodes. Some of them are classics (I strongly recommend "Genesis of the Daleks"); some of them haven't aged as well, but were still reasonably entertaining. Of Peter Davison's work, I've only seen "The Caves of Androzani", which is a classic.

also, now I'm sorely tempted to dye my hair red. Too bad I dyed it blonde a month ago. I have to wait another month or so before I dye it again or else I'll fry my hair.

I suppose I could find a DVD set of the Doctor or two in my local store, yes?

Best Buy carries a lot of old school Who in store. Or at least, the one I was at the other day did.

And HMV too I bet. I got a Sonic Screwdriver as a gift for my boyfriend's brother. They had lots of stuff like that and others like a tardis mug, etc. :P

There're a lot of the First Doctor Serials that actually fell as though they connect quite well with the current series - since that's all I've really gone through so far. (Which reminds me that I oughta try to get some things re-configured again for Aaron).

Some, but by no means all, of the old episodes are on Amazon Prime and/or Netflix.

No, cos then you'd see the edited note on the bottom of the post. :monster: But I reposted something of yours backalong, so we'll just say timey-wimey. Maybe I got the link from you, but then got sent back in time by an Angel. :monster:

And I recommend the classic series. True, the special effects were sometimes ropey by today's standards -- and indeed, even their own days' -- but you have to remember that the BBC would give Doctor Who the same budget as a game show (if they were lucky), and that several BBC controllers deliberately cut the show's budget to try and dim its popularity enough to axe it.

But I really recommend the McCoy era, except the first series (three reasons: one, Bonnie Langford; two, the Doctor hadn't been cast when the scripts were written, so they're pretty poor; and three, Bonnie Langford).

McCoy wanted the role to be more dramatic and less comic, and the writers listened to him. So, the other three series/seasons were more like how the Doctor started; mysterious and aloof. This meant that Ace, his companion, got some of the biggest character development the series ever saw. Quite frankly, McCoy's tenure (after Bonnie Langford) is the precursor for the RTD reboot.

Not quite. She DOES do that, but it's a delaying tactic. Ace was more for Nitro 9 than anything.

I'd love for Ace to reappear in the modern series, apart from her shoutout in Sarah Jane.

Though speaking of, I wonder if SJS knew
Amy and Rory were companions
before the Doctor Did.

haha, so last night watched "Gridlock." It's the one where
The Doctor takes Martha to New New York and she gets kidnapped so the people can use the fast lain on the motorway.

That was actually a really good episode. I can just imagine the show's team had so much fun coming up with all of the different insides of the cars.

Other than that, I thought the ending of this episode was really touching.
The Face of Boe dieing, telling the Doctor that he wasn't alone. oooooo I wonder what that means! (I actually know I have spoiled myself but still). But most of all, when the Doctor was telling Martha about Gallifrey(sp?) I got teary eyed.

And the two episodes before that as well. Especially when they went back to meet Shakespeare and The Doctor mentioned how he had read book 7 of Harry Potter. I laughed.

Oh and I forgot to mention The Runaway Bride. Donna is hilarious. I can't wait until I get to season 4 when she's an official companion.
And all the Doctor angst over Rose gave me all the feels

Just finished watching The Greatest Show in the Galaxy. If you can stand all the (not so) sly digs at the fandom and the BBC, plus all the 80s... 80s, it's a rather enjoyable episode.

OK, I'm slightly biased with Mags (one of the greatest never quite companions, IMO); she looks like a Neverwhere extra, and
was Doctor Who's first attempt at an onscreen werewolf
.

McCoy plays the Seventh Doctor as the buffoon of his first season AND as the cunning old man of later appearances, and slips from one to another with the ease of shedding a coat.

Ugh I know you guys are mourning Rory and Amy, but dang it, I'm not that far yet and I'm still mourning Rose.

But this silly little thing makes me feel better about it. :)

Also, I must say, I feel bad for poor Martha. She was rather smitten with the Doctor from the get go, and so far he's been all, "Rose Rose Rose Rose *pines*" Poor Martha. :(
