:awesome: but it is... as long as you've got a shiny incursion ship and run with TVP or something. Or get successful in the old (and oddly enough still working) isk doubler scam.

Upcoming changes in Oceanus release, September 30th

Fuck me it's going fast with the releases now, :awesome:

tl;dr:

* French localization
*
01_550.jpg
* Wormhole skybox visual updates
* Wormhole effects indicating what size ships can go through
* New Burner missions, now with logi (I tried one of those once, I failed miserably)
* Easier importing of ship fittings from 3rd party software / sources
* New notification system (not enabled by default yet at the release / opt-in, so probably won't be very done yet. Still, this was much needed)
* Named Module updates / rebalancing
* Interceptor / Interdictor rebalancings
* Moar tooltips
* New character selection screen music (eve has music?)
* Technical stuff to help support future ship customization (yay!)

Annnd release done. The new notifications menu and cloak animations are neat :awesome:.

And today CCP released what will probably the first of many tl;dr internet tears: slow / gradual changes to nullsec dynamics. Phase one: Long-distance travel changes, i.e. making it harder (or something) to travel long distances (think jump drives etc). This would effectively make rapid responses from halfway across the known eve universe harder.

Phase two - still vague, under discussion with the player representatives, etc - is aimed at breaking up nullsec - at the moment, there's some pretty big chunks in the hands of some pretty big alliances.

Phase three is something something IDK. Also something about player-built/owned stargates.

It seems they're going to allow capital ships to use regular stargates, and introduce jump drive usage cooldowns / 'fatigue' that decays over time. Also, range nerfed to 5 LY - I have no experience with jumps though, so IDK what this all means. There's an appendix at the bottom outlining a situation - it looks like doing multiple jumps will each time double a timeout counter, so at one point it'll be faster to just do 40 regular jumps using stargates. You know what that means? Moar capital kills, \o/. And probably more capitals used in smaller gangs etc.

More stuff for the next release (4th november):

* Long-distance travel changes (see above)
* Unlimited skill queue (for non-trial users), :o
* Bulk market sell order creation (I recently sold off like 400 different loot items, it took forever :wacky: )
* Space compass / new overlay thingies (see above)
* Invention overhaul thing
* New and rebalanced exploration rewards
* New notification system goes 1.0
* Moar guidance in missions, idk what though, to be announced
* New cloaking effect variants for different modules
* Scanner window separation (about time, too)
* Some trial account limitations will be lifted; flying in battleships, participating in incursions, that kinda deal.

asdfhijkl manual wasd control. Today's "no fucking shit Sherlock" quote is:

One of the things we almost universally observed was the initial expectation to be able to fly your spaceship in any direction using the WASD keys on the keyboard. The transition to EVEs flight control scheme of right clicking on things was jarring for some.

It'll probably suck and be laggy as fuck, :monster:. But hey.

Bigger stuff:

Rhea "what's new" stuff.. Pretty big stuff here:

* Clone grades, clone upgrade cost and skill point loss when podded will be removed in Rhea. That's a nice change, makes the game a lot less wtfery - and more importantly, will stop ragequits after people forget to update their clone after dying. I never understood that one tbh.

* T3 Tactica Destroyers. Aww yii. What the thing says is that they can switch between defensive speed and sniper modes (I dunno if that'll be with modules like the T3 cruisers). Amarr gets the first out of four.

* New ORE freighter, the Bowhead, which comes with an extra large ship maintenance bay for moving assembled ships - with a chance of dropping stored ships when destroyed. Gank targets, :monster:

* New ship and lighting rendering technology, which makes ships look sexier. In Rhea, all ships except T3's will be rendered with this. gif animation showing the difference. Details to follow

* New UI look, like I said above

* Opt-in keyboard ship control, like above

* Opt-in new star map, they completely redid it to improve readability and usability. More info to come.

* Blackbird, Falcon, Rook, Incursus, Enyo and Ishkur ships redesigned, T2 hull variants for the Onyx and Eagle

* Visual effects update for asteroid belts, adding dust effects, sun rays and rock fragments. pictar

* Six million character names used on old trial accounts that never subscribed freed

TL;DR, fffuuu biggest update in months. I'm sure they've been saving up.

New trailer, "This is Eve", showing (probably dramatized) game footage and other in-game stuffs, and starring the actual player's voices / comms. Note the "op success" enthusiasm near the end, :awesome:.

Yaaay moving bits!

The current estimates are that its price will be about 40M apiece, so that makes it quite affordable (more expensive than a T2 frigate, and a bit cheaper or about the same price as T2 destroyers (interdictors), which are rather specialized. I think we're gonna see a whole lot of these things soon.

Also, a bright star can be seen from all over space, and it's growing in brightness:

I could see it too, :monster:. Supposedly it's a supernova taking place in Jove space. Off course, it being visible in every corner of known space doesn't make sense because the eve universe is about 120 lightyears across (according to one random source), so it'd take years before it's visible in the next section. But hey, physics haven't applied in a while now :monster:. Supposedly it looks like the Nova solar system in WH space, which apparently has a name or something?

Space trigonometrics have estimated it to originate from "W477-P in the UUA-F4 region of Jove space."

It's also rather plain to see on the EVE Online Now page http://now.eveonline.com/

official world news page: http://community.eveonline.com/news/news-channels/world-news/stellar-anomaly-detected-by-capsuleers/

I think earlier this year they fired / had to fire a lot of people, and the background story articles died down completely for a while (IIRC). Looks like they were able to pick it up again. They've been getting a lot of new players too since that last trailer.

edit: Oh shi- CCP removed 101 stargates from the (player-unreachable) Jove systems - and the Rhea release will add 101 new wormhole systems. Coincidence? http://i.imgur.com/QiK7eif.png. Okay maybe not 101 (200+), but something is happening in Jove and shit.

Also,
, although I'll be honest, it's not as glorious as last year's trailer.

I now have the urge to get back into Eve, now my PC is more or less stable.

But I feel like someone else has put the idea into my head.

Uhhh, all right I guess, me and Joe play like once a week, maybe, :monster:. We're not actively campaigning really, and IDK where to go really.

Dust (or its rebuild / re-release as Project Legion under PC) has been kinda quiet; what I gathered from fanfest last week is that Legion is again on a low burn, while they try to fix the issues with Dust first. Dust has a reasonably stable player base ATM, apparently, with like 2500 simultaneous players.

hype hype hype hype

basically, CCP changed sov null mechanics, rich casino guys and all of eve got angry at the largest alliance, and they're getting pwned. longer version

Doing great things for the game, which had been stagnating for a bit; a few years ago it had 50K online members most of the time, but that slowly dropped to 30K. Tonight, now that the big corporation is calling people to return and others are joining in on the lulz (and the fights being actually quite accessible), it's hit 40K online users again.

I like it; I was afraid of null for a long time because it was just a few very large and seemingly untouchable alliances holding the big chunks. The one under siege for example required you to have an active account on the SA forums - fuck that, :monster:.

Currently trying to get into a big alliance associated with reddit, but they're being a bit anal about my TLS corporation where Joe and Carlie are also in (they think they're alt accounts of mine). If that falls through, I'll join Pandemic Legion, they just accept anyone without any background checks.

fyi eve online is now free to play. Ish. Up until cruisers and shit. But honestly, that will get you in all of the big fites, :monster:. A 100-man gang of Ruptures or Caracals are super effective.
