For all his faults, Nomura was the one keen on preserving the story the closest possible to the original.

For what it’s worth too, I do feel that they upped Zerith alongside Cloti in this game compared to the OG Midgar part.

I’ve been thinking about what it means to have a new Sephiroth and that alternative timeline too, how does that work with the story narrative as they also told us to expect the story to keep the same beats as in the OG. And I’m thinking that we will get another singularity, at the end of the game. It is possible that this Sephiroth comes from that alternate timeline, and is trying to get Cloud to help him to take over both worlds. He knows it doesn’t work so he must have another plan - but if we take into account that Zack is alive in the alternative timeline, then probably it means that Zack will help in the singularity to beat Sephiroth. Also, I do expect that alternate universe to be vastly different in terms of who's alive and who's not, I even expect it to be reversed compared to here - with Cloud, Tifa, Barret to have died, especially since we can think that Cloud possibly wasn't there to help Avalanche, and Biggs, Wedge and Jessie to have survived. Biggs could act like a catalyst for a new singularity because he's alive in the two versions (since Aerith isn't in the Remake timeline anymore at that moment). Zack would have saved Aerith from her fate because he's the hero that Cloud isn't. It would also avoid to have two characters at the same time who are the same, to avoid confusion. To me, the fact that there is an alternative timeline doesn't mean that everything is going well there. They may or may not reunite the timelines at the end after Sephiroth's death, but my gut says nope, they will probably part ways because they'll want to recreate that ending from AC:C where you see Zack and Aerith dissolving in the Lifestream.

Argh! See I'm rereading this and it feels too fanficcy for my tastes. I don't like the idea of alternate timelines. In a better world, my first interpretation of the scene would have prevailed (that it was just Zack before he got shot down) and all would be fine. Now I don't know. I feel it's the only way to alterate the Remake timeline the less, is to make intersect it with the alternate timeline the less possible. Which means, only by the end, with a few flashes in between probably (as I said, my best guess would be Gongaga, sincec Aerith would be there and could have flashes of that alternate timeline where Zack is alive). That would create some more conflict for Aerith I guess.

And because Nojima has pushed cloti and zerith through the compilation, I do get the impression that Remake is going to cement that. IMHO, if Zack is alive somewhere, he won't pass up the chance to give zeriths some goodies. It's not *why* Zack is alive (ie to help Cloud beat Super Sephiroth, I imagine he could try to merge the two within the singularity, yeah my fanfic is weird), but it's certainly one of the consequences.

Nojima wanted Remake to be the culmination of the entire FF7 Compilation

Depending on how that's read, I like the concept behind that, or at least the potential.

Let's for a second take this to mean that he didn't want to remake FFVII as much as he wanted to make a culmination by incorporating everything that exists in the compilation into one game. So that someone could play this one game, and experience all the growth and emotions that were previously experienced by playing them all into a single final fantasy VII experience. He doesn't want to change CC, FFVII, and ACC, but combine them.

By that I mean, maybe he wants this game to also explore all the concepts that previously existed only in the compilation.

So for instance, ACC will be a part of this game. Not in that it will continue for another two years, and have us see those events. But that before FFVII:R ends, Cloud will have to have gone through the character arc of mourning Aeriths death, getting held back by guilt, forgiving himself, and moving on.

Instead of seeing Zack die and not have the emotional reaction that his bond with Aerith gave his death in CC, that bond will instead be shown and elaborated on in the FFVII:R so that when we do see it happen, it will have that impact. We won't see the story of FFVII, but we'll be seeing what we need to see in order to feel that bond and feel those emotions. From the beginning, we will see Zack and develop that love for him.

I honestly HATE the ending, but for the very first time, THAT concept I might actually be able to get behind.

That's an interesting point of view that I'd love to see, especially since this time around, Cloud's progress has been fast. So I'd really like it but at the same time, I'm not sure that it's what he meant. If we look at Remake, objectively, what they did is incorporate things from the Compilation: we saw NPCs from the Turks' novella, tease for Deep Ground and DoC, even footage of AC:C. And I feel that's what he wants, to consolidate the Compilation through Remake, so that the rest of the Compilation will be more coherent with the main game.

I believe this will most likely happen due to AC:C and other works that happened post FF7. In my mind I don't think that they would throw away AC:C and DoC, just for the sake of having Aerith and Cloud together. That would be like SE suddenly being capricious after all the ground work they have built up to this point.

It would be like having a modern state of the art building built and then turn around right after, and decide to blow up the foundation to the building. Not sure if SE is willing to play that kind of "house of cards" game with FF7.

Yeah, There's this. And also, they had the opportunity to make CxA happen in all these new content from the compilation, but they never did that. So why now? Even more when what they been doing is highly accepted by the fandom. If we look at it under this single lens, there's simple no reason to that.

I wonder if SE's direction might be swayed by popular opinion.
I'm pretty new to this LTD / shipping community so I don't actually know which side has more supporters or the loudest voice (I do appreciate that everyone here has been incredibly passionate yet objective), but I certainly hope that SE would not simply bend to fan reactions and stick to creating a compelling story which I find that the compilation of FF7 is.

I feared Nomura's involvement with the project because admittedly I was quite disappointed with what he did with KH3, but ironically it gives me hope that he wouldn't be so easily swayed by popular opinion.

Cloti is widely accepted by the fandom and I can't say for sure ofc, but from what we can gather from important polls, they seem to be the most popular ship as well. So, again, if we look at this thought this simple lens, there's also no reason for them to change anything they been doing up until now since the ship in question is popular ( and even more now after the Remake).

The one thing about Nomura directing is that I don't like that is that he always pushes for things to be kept ambiguous. He did it with Advent Children and he did it with TIfa and Cloud in KH 2.

Like, Nojima wanted to make Tifa explicitly Cloud's light in KH 2 but Nomura cut that because he wanted fans to speculate about it.

Problem being that no one speculated about it because we didn't even get a hint that Tifa was meant to be Cloud's light

The problem with Nomura is that he likes to give the player space to have their own interpretations and I appreciate that a lot, but.. he just doesn't know when to stop  Like, it's nice when used here and there, but when you use it too much and even in important bits, you simply left with a story that nobody knows what exactly is about since no one has the same interpretation of it. I don't think FFVII suffers too much from it tho( aside from the LTD ofc), but I'd say it's because Nojima gets it! He knows where things should be more clear and where things should be left to interpretation, and is able to balance Nomura's love for ambiguity very well. We can just hope that Nojima can keep having his ways in FFVIIR I guess :tearsofjoy:

d simply say that it was still valid, still happened, and might still be the canon thing that happens in another timeline that still exists.

I hate that concept, I think multiple timelines makes things meaningless, but I wouldn't put it past them just yet.

Are you me?? lol, but seriously.. that's what I dislike the most when it comes to multiple timelines, especially when used in games like FVII. Everything kinda loses meaning because you can simply change the outcome in another timeline. There's simply no weight in any decision anymore, and in a game that deals so much with the theme of "consequences of your actions", it seems like a disservice to bring such a concept there.

But it's too early to judge, I guess we gotta wait for part two to be sure where all this is heading.

It's old so I forgot what the exact title of that fic is, but it sounds like "Spirit Lover"? Or something like that. I don't really want to name the fanfic author because he's a well-known member of what is known as the "Church of Pink" (believe me, I don't want to use this to associate anyone with, but I had to if I'm to give a clue). He had the reputation of creating bot accounts to boost Clerith numbers in forums polls and I believe he once joined TLS forums as well.

The name he's come to be known of in the fandom consists of two words; the first word starts with an S, then an H, then an R, and then a few letters. The second word starts with an L and ends with a T. If you've been following the LTD for years, I believe you can figure out the rest.

Good Ole Shroudy. Yeah, that wasn't just a fanfic, he actually believed that was what happened at the end of Advent Children. He did other strange stuff too, like show Advent Children to his girlfriend's second grade class (or something like that) and ask them who he thought Cloud loved and used that as proof. His account here was Giddy Unicorn, I think?

Good Lord, Ryu! I didn't want to publicly name the guy here, but yeah it was Shrouded Light (a.k.a. Shroudy). And now that you mention it, he is Giddy Unicorn here (I honestly forgot his TLS registered name until you mentioned it). Oh yeah he did that too. Jeez, that takes me back. But I wanted to give the guy the benefit of the doubt and think that there was some profound reason and purpose behind what he used to do. He was an interesting character.

Although I'm more stunned to know that you went out from lurking and posted in reply to that specific post of mine. Now I feel like to summon you we only need to cast "Shroudy" like a spell.

Look! Aerith and Cloud used the same toilet! It must be true love!

Then I must be in a polyamorous relationship with strangers who uses the public toilets that I also used. Turns out I'm actually a harem protagonist without me knowing---granted, my harem most likely consists of people of the same sex.

Oh, it will be both for sure! If you try to cover two fronts you end up covering none, that's some Art of war 101 but Adolf didn't get the memo so Cherith shippers will repeat the same mistake. And you know, the Siegfried line was commissioned to private entreprises at first (that would be something like that Pepsi cup, a third party creating what they see fit and shippers using it anyway because they need anything to build their line) so I expect it to be a laughingstock.
I may need to buy popcorn.

You had me at Siegfried line. Please link me your patreon.

Through my eyes and what I think is interesting that in the OG game the Midgar part I felt was really Cloud X Aerith focused. This is in direct contrast to the Remake. I was honestly really surprised at how quickly the Remake established Cloud and Tifa. Even when Cloud first meet Aerith.

If you first refuse the flower with the , "no I am good" Aerith than says that "don't be like that, I know you want one. When is the last time you seen a real flower, besides it will make your girlfriends day I guarantee it." Then Cloud responds "How much?" I believe Cloud had a certain someone in mind, after Aerith pressed him about giving the flower to his girlfriend.

When we first "meet" Tifa in CH3, and Cloud gave her the flower, I was fully expecting it to be an option. When it wasn't. (This is a really important part to establish affection points early in the OG game.) I was like "Wait a minute? Are they really doing this?" Also, with all the (the way the Japanese call it "skinship") between Tifa and Cloud throughout the Remake. I mean they literally couldn't keep their hands off of each other. (maybe I am looking through a biases lens, but I think others here thought the same way) I do believe there was a lot of excessive touching where they didn't have to touch each other scenes, I mean at one point they were laying on each other at one point.

With what was established between Tifa and Cloud in Part 1 was , that you have two childhood friends who love each other dearly but just don't quite know how to express it properly yet. Which goes with both Cloud and TIfa's personality of being introverts.

I don't know if you guys realize this but from the time they first meet in CH3, Tifa has been by Cloud side through the entire game, with the exception of Wall Market chapter. Tifa has been mentioned or is physically in every Chapter of the game. This was not done by accident. Of course this makes sense for those who adore the OG game. That was what Tifa wanted to do, was to stay by Cloud to make sure that he will be alright. I was glad to see that reflected here and so early I might add.

With all that said, I do I have some worries. This is where it gets interesting in my opinion. I wonder what the Devs are going to do in Part 2 with the dynamics between the two on what they have established with Tifa and Cloud thus far. Are they going to continue to have Cloud and Tifa grow even closer? Or are they going to rip them apart, especially at the beginning where Tifa starts to really realize that her childhood memories don't match with Clouds? (of course it doesn't because she was mortally wounded by Sephiroth and didn't know that Cloud came for her) Are the Devs going to throw away all that which was established between the two in Part 1.

This is probably where Cloud might start to fall for Aerith. Since Tifa pushes Cloud away because of her insecurities of her memories with Cloud. I think that Tifa will become more reserved, maybe even withdrawn from him at this point. I don't believe TIfa will leave Cloud completely alone. I don't see her doing that. I think we will see some distance being given between them.

Not sure if I like this simply because of how much of a "service" Cloud X Tifa got in the first part, to only get it yanked away in the second game. But if you really think about, that is good storytelling if done properly and it does kinda fit into the plot of FF7. So, I guess we will have to wait and see.

That's the most unhinged thing I've heard about shipping.
Holy shit.
Poor kids, I hope they gave them free snacks and soda and a huge candy bag later to ease the pain. I bet some of them will bond over their shared trauma.

"Hey, I can hear the radio." "Yes, it's the old songs radio station. They're banging again." "Let's go outside, Marlene. If I hear Midgar Blues one more time I'm going to start killing hobos."
Honestly, I don't know how married couples with children manage to have sex at all.

When, you have kids you have to find new and interesting ways to have sex while they are around. You know piano lessons, softball practice or the old "go outside and play because your father and I are horny and if you don't want to see parts of your mom and dad naked you need to leave."

I wonder how awkward it is when Tifa wants to bang and Marlene and Denzel is around. I would love to be the fly on the wall for that one. :monster:

That was a surprise! Remember that scene in the sewers when Aerith jumps from the sinking panels and Tifa catches her? Cloud is grabbing Tifa, supporting her from the back even if Tifa doesn't even step back when Aerith lands on her arms. That touch wasn't needed at all, they just touch all the time.
And knowing how japanese people are, all this skinship is huge. That it's happening all the time, even in public, sends a clear message: they are young and in love.
I've never been a true shipper because I can't take videogames or anime as super serious stuff, but come on. It's so fucking obvious.

They are going to play the "will they or won't they" game for years. I hope Devs don't overdo it, though.

I think that will happen. But I trust my AerTi senses and if that talk between them in the Remake with Tifa telling Aerith "Cloud's been acting weird. More than usual, I mean" is any indication, I think the girls are going to talk in private about what's happening (maybe in Costa del Sol?) and they will come to some agreement that Cloud's wellbeing should be more important than their romantic feelings towards him.
I believe in my girls.

I forgot about that, I read somewhere that there were some lines between Tifa and Aerith at Kalm that sorta said that, but was omitted from the OG. This might be a good chance to finally put that it there. I am not sure why those lines were taken out in the first place. Maybe for the sake ambiguity. However, in the Remake I think the Devs threw ambiguity out the window. Cos, it is right there in your face this time around. It would actually help Tifa and Aerith relationship moving forward.

Aerith could be that emotional crutch for Tifa in the Remake. That is realistic.

AU! Zack living plus Cloud's romantic feelings for Aerith being called not real plus the vast bolstering of Cloud x TIfa in the Remake has me hopeful that they'll make it less optional and less ambiguous in-game.

I mean imagine the Lifestream Sequence with swelling music, voice-acting, detailed body language and facial expressions.

How do you write that platonically?

Hell, even if they did HA Highwind scene the same as in the OG, it would come across a lot more obviously because body language.

You know I've come around to the idea that "Hollow" has differently lines that are vaguely about Zack, Aerith and Tifa sometimes simulatenousy in different sections whereas I was certain that it was only about Aerith .

Listen to Price of Freedom's lyrics, it's about "Cloud's feeling" too. Hollow is definitely a reference to Crisis Core.

The ambiguity is intended but I don't think Hollow is a cheesy love song about either girl. Nomura & Nojima probably laughing their asses off at fan theories right now. They really did it on purpose.
