Eerie
Fire and Blood
For all his faults, Nomura was the one keen on preserving the story the closest possible to the original.
For what it’s worth too, I do feel that they upped Zerith alongside Cloti in this game compared to the OG Midgar part.
I’ve been thinking about what it means to have a new Sephiroth and that alternative timeline too, how does that work with the story narrative as they also told us to expect the story to keep the same beats as in the OG. And I’m thinking that we will get another singularity, at the end of the game. It is possible that this Sephiroth comes from that alternate timeline, and is trying to get Cloud to help him to take over both worlds. He knows it doesn’t work so he must have another plan - but if we take into account that Zack is alive in the alternative timeline, then probably it means that Zack will help in the singularity to beat Sephiroth. Also, I do expect that alternate universe to be vastly different in terms of who's alive and who's not, I even expect it to be reversed compared to here - with Cloud, Tifa, Barret to have died, especially since we can think that Cloud possibly wasn't there to help Avalanche, and Biggs, Wedge and Jessie to have survived. Biggs could act like a catalyst for a new singularity because he's alive in the two versions (since Aerith isn't in the Remake timeline anymore at that moment). Zack would have saved Aerith from her fate because he's the hero that Cloud isn't. It would also avoid to have two characters at the same time who are the same, to avoid confusion. To me, the fact that there is an alternative timeline doesn't mean that everything is going well there. They may or may not reunite the timelines at the end after Sephiroth's death, but my gut says nope, they will probably part ways because they'll want to recreate that ending from AC:C where you see Zack and Aerith dissolving in the Lifestream.
Argh! See I'm rereading this and it feels too fanficcy for my tastes. I don't like the idea of alternate timelines. In a better world, my first interpretation of the scene would have prevailed (that it was just Zack before he got shot down) and all would be fine. Now I don't know. I feel it's the only way to alterate the Remake timeline the less, is to make intersect it with the alternate timeline the less possible. Which means, only by the end, with a few flashes in between probably (as I said, my best guess would be Gongaga, sincec Aerith would be there and could have flashes of that alternate timeline where Zack is alive). That would create some more conflict for Aerith I guess.
And because Nojima has pushed cloti and zerith through the compilation, I do get the impression that Remake is going to cement that. IMHO, if Zack is alive somewhere, he won't pass up the chance to give zeriths some goodies. It's not *why* Zack is alive (ie to help Cloud beat Super Sephiroth, I imagine he could try to merge the two within the singularity, yeah my fanfic is weird), but it's certainly one of the consequences.
