Depending on your knowledge/fandom of the Fallout universe, this trailer could either raise a lot of questions or nothing at all.

Around a year of its announcement, Obsidian (!) finally gives us a tidbit on New Vegas with this new trailer. Supposedly, this trailer is only the beginning of the news we're slated to get, but it alone is pretty exciting. Not only am I psyched that Fallout is going back to its roots (Obsidian Entertainment), but the setting is too, back on the West Coast. I'll update this topic as we get news, but so far, the trailer alone has me pretty excited!

Hope they put more money into the models and animation.

Played & completed FO2 & FO3, very different games. I can see why hardcore players didn't like the feel of FO3.

It'll be interesting to see the FO2 developers creating a game with FO3's engine.
New Reno anyone?

The teaser didn't really explain too much apart from the setting so it didn't really raise any questions tbh :monster:

I loved all the Fallout games really, and I don't mind whether or not they go back to their roots as long as they keep the style they've had. I don't know how drastic an impact Obsidian would make on the series but let's ride this and see where it goes.
I'm not fussy.

It raised a hell of a lot of questions. The Fallout fandom is buzzing.

I may not be thinking as hard as I used to, you might have to gimme a hint for this one.

One, the fact that New Vegas is intact and lit up (something never seen before in the setting), two, the muthafukken New California Republic flag (this is not any condescension directed at you, I'm legit excited that the NCR is being featured in the game!). Last but not least, the mysterious shadowy figure of course.

I mean what mystery is complete without mysterious shadowy figures.

Loved NWN2 and KotOR2, so chalk me up as one who's eagerly awaiting New Vegas' arrival. Just mentioning the name 'Obsidian' is enough for me to want to get the game.

Now if only Troika were still around...

I can't say I share all of y'all's nostalgia, I never played Fallout / Fallout 2, even though it was very prominently visible in pretty much all game sections for years at the time :monster:.

Fallout 3 was pretty good though, I should replay it sometime (with mods). It's like Oblivion, only shorter / less 'broad' and higher in quality and story.

The only question it raises for me is how the mechanics of the game will be.

It's the FO3 engine, it's the Black Isle/ Obsidian writers.

So, it will be like FO3 combat, but like FO/2 gameplay.

Hell, most of New Vegas is what Van Buren was going to be, from what I've heard thus far.

Fallout: New Vegas FAQ here

You play as "The Courier". You worked for a mob boss delivering something, when you are shot in the head and left for dead in the desert, until a robot digger finds you. (The trailer makes more sence now).

The Courier is simply, as the name implies, a courier carrying a parcel across the Mojave desert. Left for dead in a shallow grave, the Courier is dug out by Victor, a friendly robot, and nursed back to health by Doctor Mitchell; doctor of the town of Goodsprings, who gives the Courier a 9mm Pistol, a Vault 21 Jumpsuit, and a Pip-Boy 3000.[1] The Courier will now have to find out who tried to kill him/her and what exactly was in the package he/she was carrying.

The Courier is more customizable than the Lone Wanderer from Fallout 3, and is more akin to the Chosen One and the Vault Dweller. It is possible to edit the Courier's age as well as their appearance and gender.
I've heard that after about 5 minutes you are free to roam the desert. (like in Fallout 3 when you come out of the vault for the first time and can go anyway and do anything.)

Karma is replaced by Reputation, you have a rep in each town or with each faction that will go up or down depending on your actions. So your actions will have more consequence than in FO3.
As it’s in the desert there’s a bit of a western theme to it. :D

Anyone else looking forward to this?

Well duh.

My guess is that functionally for each town Reputation will be pretty much the same as a "local Karma" sort of thing I guess.

Victor didn't seem to be in much of a hurry to dig the guy out :monster:

I am very exsite for dis here game. Only played Fallout 3 though, so I'm not knowledgable beyond that game aside from some history a friend of mine went over with me.

Fallout 3 was a step in a different direction which I liked, which in all sense of the phrase is very difficult to come by these days =/

Judging from the screenshots, I'm glad they're keeping it that way for New Vegas, although the graphics is looking slightly dated. Still, probably preliminary stuff before the real stuff.

THey said they were keeping the engine used for FO3, so I'm don't think they're really updating the graphics. I honestly don't mind and I usually am super picky with graphics.

Yes well just because they're using the same engine doesn't mean they're making little changes to it >3

New weapons, some Fallout 3 weapons, and a weapon modification system are introduced in Fallout: New Vegas. The modification system allows for weapon modifications, such as mounting scopes, modifying rate of fire, and changing size of magazine. Crafting will also play a role in weaponry, with the player being able to craft ammunition, such as hand-loaded rounds. In addition, a plant-harvesting system similar to The Elder Scrolls series will be in place for the player to use such plants in bullets, chems, and for other handy uses.

Flower bullets ftw! :P

August 10, 2010 (Rockville, MD) – Bethesda Softworks today revealed the star-studded voice over cast for Fallout®: New Vegas™, the follow-up game to the critically acclaimed Fallout® 3. Fallout: New Vegas features Golden Globe-winner and two time Emmy nominated actor Ron Perlman ("Hellboy", "Sons of Anarachy"), Screen Actors Guild-winner and Emmy and Golden Globe nominated actor Matthew Perry ("Friends"), Mr. Las Vegas himself, Wayne Newton, William Sadler ("Shawshank Redemption"), Zach Levi ("Chuck"), Felicia Day ("The Guild"), Michael Dorn ("Star Trek:The Next Generation"), Kris Kristofferson ("Blade Trilogy,"), Danny Trejo ("Machete", "From Dusk Till Dawn"), John Doman ("Mystic River", "The Wire") and Rene Auberjonois ("Boston Legal", "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine").

That's also quite the lineup.

And lastly, (though it's a different SKU from the main game listing), it appears that the game may be mislisted on Best Buy's website for $5.00 for the 360. Not sure if you'd actually be able to get away with getting the game for $5.00 but it may be worth a try if you've got a 360.

Machete and Worf are in this? Dayum. I'm now nearly as curious in the actual game as the inevitable mods for it.
