Opening Monologue for FO: New Vegas
War. War never changes. When atomic fire consumed the earth, those who survived did so in great, underground vaults. When they opened, their inhabitants set out across ruins of the old world to build new societies, establish new villages, form new tribes. As decades passed, what had been the American southwest united beneath the flag of the New California Republic, dedicated to old world values, democracy and the rule of law.
As the Republic grew, so did its needs. Scouts spread east, seeking territory and wealth, in the dry and merciless expanse of the Mojave Desert. They returned with tales of a city untouched by the warheads that had scorched the rest of the world and a great wall spanning the Colorado River. The NCR mobilized its army and set it east to occupy the Hoover Dam and restore it to working condition. But across the Colorado, another society had arisen under a different flag. A vast army of slaves, forged in the conquest of 86 tribes: Caesar's Legion.
Four years have passed since the Republic held the Dam, just barely, against the Legion's onslaught. The Legion did not retreat. Across the River, they gathered strength. Campfires burned, training drums beat.
Through it all, the New Vegas Strip has stayed open for business under the control of its mysterious overseer, Mr. House and his army of rehabilitated Tribals and police robots.
You are a courier, hired by the Mojave Express, to deliver a package to the New Vegas Strip. What seemed like a simple delivery job has taken a turn…for the worst.

Only 30 days to go. :)

Preordered my copy. \o/

In addition, a plant-harvesting system similar to The Elder Scrolls series will be in place for the player to use such plants in bullets, chems, and for other handy uses.

I was horribly addicted to the harvesting/crafting system in Oblivion, so I am excite.

Also, that cast list is amazing.

god I had some much fun with FO3. If my character can be anything as memorable as my gasmask/firehat wearing, flaming lawn mower blade wielding psych case in spikey power armor that I had in FO3 I'm sure I will love this just as hard. Oh and the sound track. Mmmmm.

I plan to pick up a copy of the game once it hits my local games shop. I can't wait... The more i read about its hardcore mode, the more I want to play this game.

It doesn't come out until Friday 22nd here in the UK. :sadpanda:

Hardcore mode you say?

Normal mode
Stimpaks heal instantly.
Ammo is weightless.
No dehydration.
No starvation.
No sleep deprivation.
Crippled limbs can be healed with stimpaks.
Radaway heals radiation poisoning instantly.

Hardcore mode
Stimpaks heal over time.
Ammo has weight.
The PC must drink, eat, and have proper sleep cycles to stay alive.
Only a doctor or a doctor's bag can heal a crippled limb.
Radaway heals radiation poisoning over time.
Hardcore mode is HARDCORE!

Really looking forward to this game. :wacky:

Hardcore mode is closer to realistic imo.

Hence, perhaps more fun.

You should try out S.T.A.L.K.E.R for PC, that's pretty damn hard.

I think I'll complete the game on normal first, then Hardcore. :P

None of those have happened to me, yet.

Still, I played through 70+ hours of Oblivion, and that game was also buggy as fuck. Bring it on. :monster:

What system are you on? PS3/360/PC?

I won't mind the odd freeze up/glitch but major problems are being reported. :(

I'm on Xbawks. I'm not that far in yet, but I certainly didn't get Mr. Silent Hill swivel head, and I went through the intro twice.

Update: Patches are coming. Pete Hines, marketing man at Fallout studio Bethesda Softworks, tells Kotaku that "We are currently working on releasing patches/updates as quickly as possible for Fallout: New Vegas, for all platforms. Announcements regarding the patches are forthcoming." He advises anyone seeing this head-turning bug to re-verify their files on Steam, as the issue is due to a "corrupt mesh file." Also notable: The head-turning bug here was highlighted two days ago in a blog post by one of the game's producers, who identified it as a known bug that was "eradicated" prior to the game's official release.
To the game itself, I'm enjoying it so far. After stepping out of the doc's office I spent about 20 min just wandering around enjoying the scenery. I went with a gun/explosion specialist because I'm too brash for sneaking and I didn't understand the hacking minigame anyway. :sadpanda: I figured it numbers were telling me how many letters were correct in each word I guessed, but I didn't have the patience for it.

It's not a Fallout title if it doesn't have glitches up the ass.

But still, I love it anyways. I hope they patch this shit up soon, though. Would hate to have people's experience ruined by a half assed product.

Game of the year amirite!!

http://kotaku.com/5668552/fallout-new-vegas-has-bug-issues

I'll probably end up buying it after its been patched up. Sloppy developers rushing out games makes me sad :/

Exactly the same as Fallout 3. New Vegas looks to be another GOTY potential, but I am sick and tired of the mentality of "Oh we can just patch it later meanwhile we have a deadline to deliver on".

I don't want to be too general but remember the good old days where we didn't have the internet that great to fix everyone's problems, and people developing games had to go over their product with a fine-toothed comb to make sure they weren't selling buggy shit? :monster:

I'm loving this game so far. I love the contrast between this and Fallout 3 in terms of the setting; as opposed to the completely wild and ruined East Coast (or what we've seen of it), the West Coast is coming up off over a century of reemerging civilization and the growth of the massive superpower of the NCR, the fiercely independent, Pre War-esque New Vegas, and the fearsome impending threat of the Caesers Legion. Its refreshing seeing a post apocalyptic setting where there's actually a lot of shit going on, near and wide, and there's a whole society besides youself.

Watching all of these power players butt heads, play each other, and trying not to get screwed by the other is very intriguing, and even more so that I get to choose sides and turn the tide myself.

Also I named myself Moe Greene, because I'm clever like that (google the name if you don't know/remember).

BTW no spoilers outside tags, please guys!
