Fallout: New Vegas

^ Sounds good. :D
I like the explanation that Vegas had no military value, so was never hit by the nukes. I also like the idea of there being different emerging societies. FO3 was good, but it was everyone for them selves outside of towns/settlements.

I have to wait until tomorrow to get New Vegas >.<

I might give my character blue eyes and name him Frank Sinatra . :P

Ah, but there's more.

Formerly one of Murder, Inc.'s top killers, Greene is credited with helping turn Las Vegas into a gambling and entertainment mecca, bringing the interests of the most powerful organized crime organizations in the world to the town.

Aw, I wish I had given my character a relevant name now. :sadpanda:

How far is everyone? I'm in between wanting to rush through the storyline because I want to know what happens, and taking part in every single sidequest that comes my way. Right now I'm only maybe midway through the quest, "they went that-a-way", currently doing "Come Fly With Me".

ALSO I did not know that
you could sidestep this entire fucking debacle with the Nightkin if you played "Confirmed Bachelor"/(optional, i thuppose) gay male PC. gdi. There better be some similar boons for the Cherchez La Femme perk.

But, speaking of this quest, did you choose to kill the Nightkin leader or help him out? My knowledge of the Fallout universe is limited, so I'm not sure what to do. Although between these nutjobs talking to a skull and the ghouls spouting nonsense about paradise while sitting on a bunch of nukes, my threshold for insanity is reaching its limit.

Who else is playing it right now? Can't just be me and Mog.

Just general non spoilery dicussion, what's everyone building their character as? How are they playing them (good, bad, RENEGADE IDK)? Favorite perks and skills?

I'm basically building my character around the "Cowboy" perk because that's just how I roll. Feels good man

I'm playing my character as a one hand gun toting 'generally good' leaning badass who sometimes works for bad factions for personal gain and betrays them at the last minute who plays by his own rules (I slept with a prostitute in Gomorrah).

The fact that Fallout is back with Obsidian is extremely apparent within the first few hours of playing the game. The writing is great, and the sheer number of factions, choices, branches, and options available to the player at any time dwarf Fallout 3, which, I'm not hatin', I loved F3. But Obsidian has its child back and it shows.

It came out in the UK today. :monster:

Only level 2 or 3 at the moment, currently looking for a safehouse to store my loot. According to the interwebz
The school house in Goodsprings is a good safe house.

I'm currently level 6. I favor the pistols and submachine guns, but switch to the Cowboy repeater as need be.

I'm playing my character and generally good but more like, "I'd rather not get involved oh god why am I involved anyway" sorta person. Of course it's kinda hard to play a character that way and try and do all the side missions. I kinda just make up excuses as to why she'd end up in certain locations where shit is going down ("What do you mean this isn't a Twinkies factory?").

@Russell: thanks for the tip, I should reaaaally store some stuff.

Will be starting tonight now that my GPU is restored. Probably gonna play a good person with a healthy dose of Kleptomania and occasional sheer chaos thrown in.

This is my favorite kind of character to play in these kinds of games. One of my favorite missions in 3 was when you have met the slaves out in the wastes and then meet he slavers in DC. I worked with the slavers, told them where the slaves were hiding out, took my share of the equipment they were giving out. Then ran ahead to the slaves, warned them, peppered the surrounding area with landmines, and then met the slavers at the rendezvous.
We charged, myself hanging back, and after the first few mines went off I unloaded on the slavers and slaughtered all of them without taking a hit. So much fun.

Tip for storage space/a home base: (minor spoiler)

You can permanently buy a motel room in Novac for 100 caps, then use it as a base for the whole game, various internet sites have confirmed this for me. It's got; a safe, a bed, a fridge, a waredobe, a desk, a suitcase, a dresser, a cabinet, a first aid box, a sink & a radio. :)

Very, very minor spoilers for the Brotherhood of Steel in this game.

lol at the rude awakening that people who only experienced Fallout 3's Brotherhood of Steel. The whole 'spread your cheeks and lift your sack or we'll disintegrate you' and THEN putting a slave collar on you so you do what they say the MOMENT you meet the BOS in New Vegas is classic West Coast BOS style shit right there.

New fans don't realize that while the Brotherhood isn't evil, they're as neutral as it gets, and the BoS in F3 was exiled for a reason; they're just too nice for the West Coast BOS tastes. New Vegas shows you that in the first 30 seconds of meeting them in this game.

They got some good tech, and good equipment can be considerably harder to find (and easier to burn through) in this game than in F3. I gave 'em a listen and I'll see where their missions go. Worst case scenario I could just screw them over at the last minute like I did with the Powder Gangers.

My character just had sex with a Protectron.

Wha? O_o

Anyway….
Several hours in now, I have a few thoughts:

Re-balanced
Near the end of Fallout 3 you were running around with 750 to 1000 stimpaks (depending on how explorer-happy you were), had best armour in the game and even on hard mode could walk off a mini nuke to face. Given a perk a level you could really build up your character to the point of being almost invincible.

In New Vegas simple things like ammo are hard to find, (I‘ve switched guns due to lack of ammo a few times.) And with a perk only every two levels you are less able to turn for character into a walking tank. I’ve only got about 25 stimpaks whilst in FO3 I would have had upwards of 200 at this point.

The difficulty curb is a lot better than FO3, things are challenging without being murderous & you have to be more careful with supplies.

Big world
Factions fighting it out, warring Casino owning moss bosses, gangs, family’s, you really get the sense that this is a huge epic world with massive events being played out. The news radio speaks of wide ranging events, nothing against three dog but it’s nice to hear about something other than myself on the radio. As JBCV said:

Holy fucking shit at the Caesar's Legion. Without spoiling anything, its worth not pissing them off enough to the point where they let you in their main camp on the other side of Hoover Dam.

Its easy to dismiss them as a group of brutal slaving savages, which they can be, and well, are. However, they're much much more than that. I'm not saying I'm on their side, but it just goes to show you how great the writing is when you meet face to face with the C-Man himself.

You'll see.

Completed it :monster:

Took me 26 hours but I skipped/missed HUGE amounts of stuff/places/quests & towards the end I just took all the drugs I could, set the game on "very Easy" and ploughed on through to the end. I cocked up a few quests and wanted to get this playthrough over with, not that I didn‘t enjoy it. :P

And before anyone goes thinking this is a small game, I got a Trophy for discovering 50 locations towards the end of the game, well there’s a trophy for discovering 150 locations that I didn’t get. So in 26 hours I only found one third or 33% of all the places there is to go.

I'm looking forward to starting a new game and going slowly, I rushed to the strip far to fast and I wish I hadn't. I want to go out from Goodsprings slowly and explorer everywhere properly next time around.
Plus I want to learn how to play Caravan. :D

Also I saw in the credits that 'Benny' is voiced by Matthew Perry (Chandler from Friends), I didn't even realise. >.<

xfd you can have sex with benny and kill him in his sleep

JSAFDHAKLSFAS;FAF AHAHAH WHAT

do you need a specific perk like black widow/confirmed bachelor to sleep with him or just a series of choices? i am tempted to do this on another playthrough.

Also Cass is an A+ companion, and is anyone else amused the courier doesn't know what a fish is?
