AHMAGAWD I am so pleased right now. I streamed from the Tchita save crystal (right before the Mandragoras) up until The End today, and even for the regular hiccups, I didn't use save states that much this time. Particularly for Pharos Cid and the end boss block, which was really good this round.
When I left for Bahamut, the save file said 10:40:52, which means that I completed the whole thing in ~11 hours. My levels at completion were 39/37/37.
It's like - now we're getting there. Now we're getting there.
So: By the time I was by the save crystal in the Balfonheim Aerodrome, purchases done and ready to go to the Bahamut, I had 5 Game Overs and the timer said 11:43. I didn't use save states at all.
The GO's were: Elder Wyrm (facepalm), Daedalus (whaat?) Pandemonium - which really screwed me over since I hadn't saved since Balfonheim , plus 2 x Pharos Cid, both at Famfrit.
I attempted the Bahamut three times before realising I was just done for the day. When I ended the stream the timer said 13 hours 15 minutes.
So yeah. Exhausted. But it was great fun, a lot of new people in the chat and followers (special thanks to Tennyo, Flint, Splint and Kuja <3), and I even had my first spambot.
I need some time before attempting this again though *dives into bed*

No problem, sorry I couldn't stick around for the end!
Well done on your first proper attempt. Your "whaat?"-style game overs just go to show how you can never predict what's going to happen in a marathon run. Practising parts of the game is one thing but practising the whole game is another entirely. You'll get down to 12 hours in a couple more tries, I'm sure.
Also, you don't say. I mean I should have known Pandemonium could be a dick - except I never though he'd flatten me (hah!) the way he did; whenever he manages to put up his paling, I've always been able to survive him. But this time I didn't have Bubble, I think that's what got me in the end.
Also, I studied my first attempt at The Undying, just to see how much of his HP was left when I Game Over'd.
(Immune to Magick, part 3 of Magick Barrier)
--> Basch/Penelo/Ashe in reserve, Fran out to die
(Ascension, kills Fran)
Pulls casters back out
(The Undying readies Piercing Firaga)
(Game Over)
= total damage done: 136 684 HP
(The Undying = 228,299)
= was at 40,129% when GO.
Preparation for physical barrier ("Enrage") should start at 50%, but instead he started doing Piercing spells and killed me. Which makes me think that if I'd taken slightly less of his HP, he might have started his Physical paling queue instead, and I might have had a chance.
So basically I really need a) both of my casters at crit HP for this fight, or b) at least one of them crit'ed and have Basch use Firaga. In the ultimate scenario, they're able to put so much damage into him I only need to polish it with the last bit of damage right after Ascension.
I want to have Basch go into the Gab fight first, then re-buff him. Then Vaan can do the first Vayne fight (I need his Firaga for this), then keep going for as long as he's able, until he dies and I replace him with Basch (best scenario: The Undying.)
I miiiight attempt this again next weekend. If I do, I'll be better prepared with food. And have candy
Nothing taking pressure off like having the English World Record holder in your stream
Freddeh is awesome though, he's not one to sit on his strategies. He helped me out today, on how to avoid a start with Piercing spells from the Undying.
I rehearsed Bahamut today and it was just awful. But - practice. Practice practice practice.
The gods weren't with me today. Lost my Mojo somewhere and left it there. The guys in the chat were really encouraging but I was lacking support from elsewhere and I crashed. Basically it was Bergan who kept flattening me and, idk.
Tried out a few new things:
* New route for Dustia - worked well
* Skipping Elder Wyrm - worked well
* Skipping Mosph Highwaste Golden Amulet, getting them in Eruyt instead - worked well, except I forgot to save money for them and the 3 of them had to share 1 for the first round of Jellies
* Minor changes in Jelly grinding (dinosaurs) - worked well (except it's kind of dangerous)
Nah, I quit when Penelo missed Decoy when I was attempting Bergan for the third time X) I didn't have the stomach to keep up with it anymore. RIP Run. X)
^ It all comes down to what you want to do, really. Anyway, on the subject, I took out the screenshots and replaced them with text (BM1, BM2, TM1 etc).
...seeing as, I started practicing again. WAT. Right? I don't know what happened. Sudden urge to do shit again So I dusted off my controller and did some practice saves up until Tiamat on Monday and Tuesday. And today, thanks to Lex' comment on the suggestion for celebratory streaming, I actually streamed today. Yap. I made splits up until Belias, thinking 'I'm never getting this far', and what happened?

Sooo a few weeks ago I was cursing because I couldn't get my PS3 controller to work with my computer but a few days ago I was thinking about it and realised I haven't tried using it since I upgraded to Windows 10, duh! So now I either have to fix it or just buy an XBOX controller. (I'll probably end up doing the latter because easier.)
I also lost all my splits in the upgrade because I was tidying my disc at the same time, so... I'm gonna have to start all over. (I think I still have my memory cards though.) I don't even think I have a video of that Belias split, which sucks a little, but oh well, it's my own fault.
Anyway I'm not too fussed about it. A burned down house means a fresh start
Anyway I don't think I'll be speedrunning practicing anyway - if I get back into streaming I'll do an XII (original) completionist run, or I'll wait for Zodiac Age and brush the dust of my Elgato. I can think of a handful of people who've followed my stream that would like to watch me play that game and point out all the teeny tiny differences, like I did with IZJS.
But before I consider going into that I'd prefer having more space. Which might happen before the end of this year, or spring next year, so. Hopefully I'll be living somewhere else by the time Zodiac Age releases.
Fangu, PS4 controller works with Windows 10. You can use DS4 Windows and it's much better than DS3Tool or whatever. I do all my PC gaming with the DS4. Hope that helps <3
I actually connected my PS4 controller to my pc with DS4Windows today and yeah it's good. I also like how it lets you dynamically set the color for the lightbar and shit
Right, didn't think of that! Thanks guys. But it's still unofficial drivers/software, right? I was thinking of getting something official to make sure I don't have to fuck around with updates every time something else is updated, but I might just give this a try instead.
The DS4 actually works natively with Windows 10 but you'll probably have to mess with button assignment. Best bet is to use DS4 Windows yeah, it installs the X360 drivers and pretends to emulate it, but only if it has to. It also has a "hide" function in the settings which I've had to use for a couple of applications but other than that it's smooth sailing.
EDIT: To explain: for example the first time I had real problems was yesterday. I bought Rayman Legends on Steam and because it's multiplayer it detected the emulated 360 and DS4 as two different players, so I had to use the "Hide" function, which just sends a message to your PC saying "the emulated X360 controller is the only one plugged in".
For shit like emulating in PCSX2 or whatever the DS4 is perfect though.
