....that's why it's behind a spoiler tag
Why even put it in? That's a huge part of the story, which he isn't going to miss. That's just ruining it for him.
I was playing that for the first time a couple months back (got distracted), and while the overall soundtrack has indeed been excellent - how is the normal battle theme so bad?! I wound up turning the volume down to almost nothing in a fight that was going poorly and taking forever, lol.
Full disclosure, I haven't played in nearly a decade, so I can't recall the theme. But I agree, most of the music I loved wasn't during battles.
EDIT: except that one fight against Miguel. I loved that song.

So, uh, never mind.
Yuffie stole my materia.
Found a video on YT guiding me to get it.
Following it now.
But I've saved since then, and apparently that's a no-no.
Apparently if I die, I LOSE MY MATERIA, PERIOD.
I haven't been to the Temple of the Ancients.
I thought this was story progression, apparently it's optional.
Panicking a bit.

I don't know what you mean by this...but that's not true. If you die you'll go back to your last save just as normal.

And it is technically optional, but you are doing it when it was "intended" to be done. You want to pursue her on to Wutai. (the direction you were heading in when she stole it.)

Right? Okay. Hopefully I don't lose my materia. That's some game quitting shit right there.

I'm in Wutai. I've just fought off some Shinra soldiers to get to Don Corneo who took Yuffie and Elena.

Apparently there's a boss. And since I've saved, if I die, I (apparently) lose my materia for good.

I got it from some forum. I started looking up how to get it back, saw that and kinda panicked. Someone in this thread stated that if you saved when you meet Yuffie it messes things up so I saw it as a possibility.

Okay, thanks.

I guess they might mean that if you save after she steals your materia you'll be stuck in that quest if you want your materia back...but it's not like you die and the game continues just without materia.

I thought it meant that I wouldn't be able to get the materia that Yuffie stole back from her.

Ah, it must have been connected with the very first encounter with Yuffie in the woods where you have to pick the right dialogue choices in order to make her join the party. The save point on that screen is fake and some shit happens if the player walks into it. But it's NOT connected with the Wutai quest, so rejoice :mon:

Beat it on my first try, by the skin of my teeth.

Got my materia back. Woo!

I really don't like Yuffie lmao.

Ah that’s too bad the sidequest gave you a scare like that. I love it, even though Yuffie is infuriating! lol

Okay, once again, see you all when I beat the game. For real this time.

Noooo we love your reactions!

Well guys, I did it.

I beat Final Fantasy 7.

I'll give out all of my opinions soon, think I need to give my eyes and my fingers a break for now lmao. I will say, however, that this game is easily in my top 5 of all time; I don't know where it fits exactly, but it's there. Safer Sephiroth was one of the most batshit insane bosses I've ever faced (that music deserves all of the awards) who I finally put down on my 3rd attempt. Facing shirtless Sephiroth and omnislash-ing his ass back to the planet immediately afterwards was incredibly satisfying. Sephiroth being Hojo's son and Cloud being there at the Nibelheim incident, but as a background Shinra security guard and not a SOLDIER, were great twists, as well as Cloud being a "Sephiroth-clone" as he was injected with Jenova cells (?) but was initially deemed as a failed experiment by Hojo, and therefore wasn't given a number. This Zack guy who was just mentioned in passing in Gongaga turned out to be who Cloud told himself he was. Cloud's fits throughout the game are how his belief of how everything happened at Nibelheim and the reality of what happened are colliding.

Aerith's death. Man, fuck. I'll go deep into this eventually but that legitimately hit me hard. Sephiroth just descends upon her after trying to make Cloud do it himself, and she dies. Aerith's theme is stuck with me forever.

Meteor actually hitting Midgar came as a surprise, as I suspected that holy and Aerith's "wish" would prevent any harm to the planet. But the more I think about it, destroying Midgar means destroying the mako reactors, returning the lifestream back to the planet and healing it, as seen at the very end of the game where Midgar is covered in wildlife. Perhaps that was Aerith's wish?

I do still have a couple questions, however. I feel like a lot of it comes down to me being rather forgetful, and therefore important plot pieces just go in one ear and out the other. Most of these questions are regarding Jenova, how seemingly only Midgar was effected by meteor (Aerith's doing, perhaps?), and what exactly happened to Sephiroth after he was thrown into the mako by Cloud at Mt. Nibel.

Oh, and just so everybody knows, Yuffie grew on me a little bit.

I'm glad to know that the game still holds up after 24 years. By all means, ask any lingering questions you have, we'll be glad to answer anything and everything. It's rare these days for us to get a fresh newcomer to the game.

Words can not express how happy I am that no one spoiled that for you. One of (if not THE) biggest impact event in the game.
