Just absolutely rocking Sephiroth's shit with my all lvl 99 party was incredibly satisfying.

He only cast supernova once. Once!

When I faced Synthesis it died halfway through Omnislash. I only hit it with a 4x cut prior. I was thoroughly entertained.

Remember when I said that I wanted to play other games besides FF7?

Yeah, not really feeling that anymore. Tried playing another game, realised that it's not on the level of FF7, and promptly quit.

I think I have a problem.
Haha, I know that feeling, I wrote an 18 page essay concerning canon and FFVII yesterday and watched another blind playthrough of remake.

If I remember correctly, you still haven't played Crisis core or Remake right? Why don't you start on one of them? I recommend playing crisis core before remake.

Sandy Badlands! Or, Desert Wasteland! Depending on how the song titles were translated. Not a common pick for Top 10 lists. Noice. You might like this piano arrangement:

And this Sandstorm-style remix :P

I've been directed to an emulator for Crisis Core. Will get to that soon!

Right about now is when you dress up in a black cloak and start chanting "Reunion". It's natural. :mon:
does an organization XIII cloak count? it's black, i made one with a giant hood. specifically so i could pull it for closet cosplay whenever i want.

I might also grab one of the international editions of ff7/8 for my switch. jut to play it again myself. and the switch is not region locked either

Since I listed my top 10 favourite FF7 tracks, I figured I'd might as well give my opinion on who I think the best party members are. Also, one month since I began this crazy journey.

1: Cloud

I genuinely think Cloud is my favourite video game protagonist of all time, and I will defend that opinion to the death.

My favourite limit breaks, my favourite weapons, and my favourite backstory in FF7. Going from a super douche only in it for the money, to someone trying to save the planet, to someone coming to terms with their own reality, to someone who defeats their childhood idol turned arch-nemesis, which in turn saves the planet from the ultimate destructive magic. Cloud plays a major role in why FF7 had such a profound effect on me.

2: Cid

Cid and Tifa are neck-in-neck for the number two spot, but Cid ever so slightly edges it because I simply had a bit more fun playing as him. He's a man with a dream, and an insistence on giving his guests some goddamn tea!

3: Tifa

Tifa is just a delight in FF7. I could probably go on all day about the wonderful lifestream sequence, how much I fell in love with her as a character, and her ever growing limit break which can enable her to comically lift those on the verge of godhood.

I'm looking forward to finally getting her scene at the Gold Saucer.

4: Barret

Barret is a character who, despite leading an eco-terrorist organisation, provided some almost comic relief during FF7. His over the top nature was fun to witness, and is highly enjoyable to play as.

Barrets backstory with Dyne was rather touching, with him admitting that his hands may be too bloodied to hold his own daughter, and trying to talk his once closest friend out of a genocidal / suicidal rampage.

Attack while its tail is up.

5: Red XIII / Nanaki

Nanaki, son of Seto, already sold me given how I simply really enjoyed playing as him, but he also has one of the most impactful side stories in the game. That and everything else that happens between him and Bugenhagen is great to witness.

6: Yuffie

I hate putting Yuffie above Aerith, but mind, this decision is entirely based around the fact that... *sigh*... I actually quite enjoy playing as her. I'm nowhere near as invested in her as a character as I am with Aerith, but she edges her in the gameplay department.

I feel filthy.

7: Aerith

It's a cruel fact that FF7 takes Aerith away at the end of disk one. It's also a cruel fact that you're unable to use her level 4 limit break much at all, cause that shit crazy good.

Coming from someone who doesn't have half the knowledge on FF7 than practically everyone else here, Aerith, to me, is the embodiment of innocence. Purity. She's the last of an ancient race who have this spiritual connection with the planet. She's a huge juxtaposition to all of the crazy shit going on around you as you play FF7, but she holds the key to saving the planet from utter destruction.

She tends to flowers in a slum church and sells them to locals, she comes up with the idea to dress Cloud up as a woman, she wants to see "the real you" (referring to Cloud), she sacrifices her life for the planet, and god dammit all, I shed a tear when the game decided to continue playing her theme throughout the Jenova battle. That shit hurt. I still got goosebumps when her materia hit the ground the last time I played the game, and Cloud's following dialogue, along with Sephiroth's sheer callousness, makes for a phenomenal scene.

It's just a shame that when it comes to playing as her, I'm neither here nor there.

8: Vincent.

Despite ranking low, I really like Vincent. He wields shotguns and has a pretty cool backstory, but his limit breaks are ass.

9: Cait Sith

Kinda a no brainer, I think. Cait Sith isn't much to fun to play as.

For me, taking Remake into account as well.
(0: Zack)

1: Tifa, best story imo together with Cloud, but I feel for her more because she's actually fully emotionally aware, she's also BY far the most fun to play in remake, and suplexing weapons is hilarious.

2: Cloud, because it's just a brilliant story, everything surrounding Nibleheim is sheer storytelling brilliance.

3: Cid, always liked his character and I have a soft spot for spears, dragoons, and loud mouths.

4: Barret, he's just SO good in the remake as a character, but I don't enjoy playing with him as much.

5: Aerith, good story, but I don't enjoy playing with her and I feel less connected with her in FFVII and remake, feels too much like my questgiver instead of party member.

6: Red XII, good boy.

7: Yuffie, a bit annoying, but fun to play in OG, and I think in remake she'll be fun as well.

8: Vincent, his overdrive sucks and his story is underutilized.

9: Caith Sith, just nothing there I like.

It takes, like, three playthroughs to maybe start appreciating Cait Sith. I really like the concept of a corporate stiff living vicariously through an unassuming stuffed animal, swept up in the party's adventure and questioning their own corporate overlords. Plus Cait gives Barret a much deserved verbal ass-kicking about the lives that perished from the mako reactor bombings. Really looking forward to walloping enemies as a giant moogle in a future remake part.

It’s interesting to see somebody else also have this opinion. I never had a favorite video game character until playing FF7 last year, and I wasn’t even expecting to like him this much since my first impressions of him weren’t the best and typically the MC isn’t my favorite character in these types of stories anyways. So for me to go from being indifferent to absolutely loving him is really refreshing because I’m pretty bored of already knowing I’m going to like something or somebody.

Top ten party members is a tough one. I think its fair to say you can easily have two lists. One ranking characters story arcs and one ranking their combat.

Story list.
1. Cloud (These two are tough)
2. Zack (These two are tough)
3. Nanaki
4. Barrett
5. Cid
6. Tifa
7. Aerith
8. Vincent (hope the remake expands his story)
9. Yuffie
10. You know who

Combat list
1. Cloud
2. Yuffie
3. Barrett
4. Cid
5. Nanaki
6. Tifa
7. Aerith
8. Vincent (hoping the remake fixes his limita)
9. You know who
