FF Novice Plays FF IX

No way playing Cross before Trigger. That would be weird, for many reasons.

Would it be that weird to do it though? I haven't played Chrono Cross yet, but from what I've read about it, CT isn't really needed to understand whats going in in CC

Oddly enough, though I do think Trigger is absolutely necessary to fully appreciate Cross, I played Cross first and I think it made me approach Trigger with reverence when the time came.

To then go back to Cross after made that experience all the more grand. After that, I even had to get a ROM of "Radical Dreamers" and play the hell out of that.

Radical Dreamers was a fine surprise to me. Superseded by Cross but still cool, though I'm not into that genre.

The overall recommendation I see, and that I agree with based on my impressions from Chrono Cross, is that you'll have a bad time if you are expecting a proper sequel to Chrono Trigger. Chrono Cross is best enjoyed as its own game or else you'll be frustrated by how disconnected it is from Chrono Trigger.

Kinda yes (it is enjoyable as its own thing) and nope (it is even more enjoyable when you connect both).

I think playing FFIX was a great way to start, (I know you played VII first) it references A LOT in relation to the older games and as you play through the rest of them you'll probably find yourself going, hey this was referenced in IX cool!
