FF7 Remake "Multi part series"

Well, if you think about it, the original game was split up onto three discs due to the whole massiveness of it. Sure, you got all three discs at the same time but... it was split. (lmao)

It wasn't split into discs due to game size. All of the discs have the same game on them the only thing you are changing out when swapping to disc 2 etc. is the FMV's and text loaded on the disc.

Not sure if you could originally do it on PS1 but on an emulator you can load in Disc 1 while playing Disc 2 content and it will be playable it will just not load text and will load in the wrong FMV once you trigger a cut scene.

The same pretty much applies to all other PS1 multi disc games.

MGS is a 2 disc game that can be beaten in 3 hours :monster:

Huh, never realized that. Thanks for clearing that up. It's been so long since I've played a multi-player PS1 game that I don't remember the logic behind it, haha! Nowadays you just download the whole game without worry. Well, think of it this way then:

Metaphorically, the game was split up onto three discs. Now, literally, the game will be split up... in a way we cannot currently explain or expect.

...yeah, it doesn't make me feel better either but at least I tried. :neo:

I meant multi-disc. Did I say it's been a while? LOL

Honestly, I could live with this. I don't love it, but it would be acceptable. The bigger issue with that, for me, would be that you know the collector's edition and shit will come out after they've all been released. But I'm not going to reward this behavior by buying it twice. But how the hell am I supposed to sit around and listen to everyone talk about the chapters as they come out if I decide to wait?
If I had to guess, they'll sell a collector's edition that includes the box + goodies + Episode 1 + Season Pass.

wow guess i should have seen it coming. all that "bs" over the years on how impossible it would be to remake this game in one go led to a possible episodic release. the only thing is i have to trust S.E. to keep a standard of quality throughout a whole release window for the episodes as opposed to waiting to see if the entire game is good. if one episode is terrible ill end up regretting any money given (unless the terrible is optional stuff outside of any relevance to the main plot). Or this could be a troll like the ps4 port of ps1 seven(you know a port-of-a-port-of-a-port-of-a-port-of-a-port-of-a-port).

At best a split is passable. At worst, it could really fuck up the game. I actually have pretty decent experiences with episodic games, but not are huge, sprawling JRPGs.

I seriously don't have enough faith in decision that this is to make us all happy and not, for, I dunno, financial reasons.

This is probably why we saw SO much SO soon. I wasn't expecting the trailer that was released... Maybe they're really focusing on one area to release it, so that they can have more time to release future areas..? Then again, if they release the game the way we're discussing, what relevance will the 20th anniversary hold? They can't possibly finish releasing all the episodes by then if they're to have the standard we're expecting.

Never. I will not be swayed by happy things. I'm going to continue to sit here miserably.

and while basic story scenario will remain same, there will be some new scene additions to FFVII Remake, SquareEnix says.

It's so weird they're releasing all this information this way... Through a journalist's twitter account and a quiet press release days after the trailer dropped...

This makes me think that they might be attempting to focus on ensuring that they can push the limits graphically (i.e. not have to lower textures, resolution, and other assets that often happen to Console releases that're also built for PC -- since this is releasing "First" on PS4), in addition to being able to focus their full efforts as a team into big areas at a time, as well as avoiding an eternally-delayed production like how XV started out as a part of XIII in 2006.

Like Suzaku said, the game naturally segments pretty well already, so I don't really see this is being a huge issue. I'd rather be able to play it in segments and be able to discuss the story bit by bit as a community, and potentially have feedback reach the dev team than maybe wait ten years for one big release, and have them need to rebuild everything for the PS5 when it's 75% completed.

While I personally would have ideally preferred for the entire game to have been remade as one huge singular game, if SquareEnix really thinks producing and releasing the game in this format will allow for the collective parts to create a greater whole and superior product than trying to release it all once in one game would result in, I can give them the benefit of the doubt (especially if it is really being done because the remake would be an infeasibly huge game). And to echo what others like Suzaku have been posting, I say color me interested in this development.

I can also see a 2017 release date (for a first episode) being more realistic now.

I don't believe for a second that segmenting the game is for the betterment of the fans and quality of the game. And I don't think that getting everything in episodes actually will make it more open or give me more content. I don't want to even think about pricing, game size, and length between episodes.

Everytime I hear them ham it up it smells of bullshit, and it's just making my Na content raise to dangerous levels. Soon I will be saltier than the dead sea. You could use my ashes to salt the earth in revenge for this.

So many good points, X! I was thinking about that earlier today (because I haven't thought of much else since yesterday). If the game was released in one fowl-swoop, it'd be like the most delicious tasting dinner you've ever eaten with a huge group of people. No one is talking, because people are too busy eating that delicious food.

Yes, this is a sign that I am hungry. But otherwise, it is a good example. If the game was released all at once, no one would be in the forums because they'd be locked away in a room as a zombie. At least, I would.

If they release the game in segments, I can take a breather and use the restroom. Also, I would have time to discuss the game here on the forums as I wait for the next meal. I mean, segment/episode.

I'm very torn by this news. At first I was dumbfounded and I just kept saying "What is this?" over and over. I mean what? They can't release it on one disc? WHAT?
Yeah, I started deflating from the hype and got a bit ticked off.

Then I started reading everyone's comments here, and looked up some of the news myself, and I've decided to stay optimistic. As several of you guys have mentioned, were still getting the Remake. That trailer yesterday was still fucking awesome. We still don't really know what they mean by multi-episode and how they're going to do it, but I got a bit of surprising consolation from hearing that they're doing it because the game is too big. Too big to fit on one disc? Seriously?
So now I'm thinking like how big is this remake gonna be? Is it going to be ginormous, is it really going to have so much stuff added to it that it'll blow our expectations out of the water?

Because if this is episodic, and we don't get the full game right away, I'd better be able to fly the highwind over the entire globe of the Planet and explore open area worlds on every bit of land and drive a submarine around on the sea floor to dodge Emerald Weapon. I'd better be able to explore the towns and cities to their fullest, find so much detail that I'm convinced this is a real planet, see the characters fully fleshed out, ect ect ect.
If they're telling us the game is too big for one disc, then they'd better damn well live up to that. And if they do, then I think I'll be pretty happy.

Also, they can still keep the price to $60 for the whole game. If they release 6 episodes at $10 each, no problem. Not saying they will, but I won't assume they'll make the game more expensive either.

I fully expect this thread to go through the five stages at grief. Some people are bargaining, some are at acceptance, but I don't think I'm getting out of anger anytime soon.
