According to this rumor which has laughable sources, Nomura has been removed from the directors chair and replaced with Kyohei Suzuki.

Well the article itself said the sources are laughable anyway.

But lets assume this is true, I don't have a lot of information on directors in general so I wouldn't know how much worse or better this Kyohei is. Could anyone clarify?

edit-
Searching up his name gave a few other articles that stated he was just helping and mentioned nothing about Nomura being kicked off the director chair.

Still no sources except for the one tweet in the that first link. That may actually be enough tho, I really don't know what everyone else here considers enough proof so I'll leave it at that.

I googled his name to try and find out more.

As reported by Japanese website (Inside-Games), last month the Human Academy held a tour for students to see the Square Enix headquarters. During the tour, Kyohei Suzuki held a roundtable with the students where he explained his position in the company.

The interesting part is that Mr Suzuki admitted during the roundtable that he is now working on the Final Fantasy 7 Remake as a game director.

I don't think he is THE game director and that he replaced Nomura. That seems like a misunderstanding/something misreported.

This is the Japanese source for this: http://www.inside-games.jp/article/2016/12/16/104227.html

Could this mean that maybe Suzuki is co-directing with Nomura? After all, FFX had 3 directors and FFVI had 2.

It seems like it. I wouldn't think they'd just kick Nomura off as director.

@Tetsujin - Guess I ninja'd you then?

Probably.

Seems like he was just there and basically just talked about what he's in charge of for the development of VIIR and that got mistranslated and reported as:
"New dude added to the team!"
"New dude is in charge of stuff!"
"New dude is in charge?"
"NEW DUDE IS IN CHARGE. NOMURA OUT?"
"BREAKING NEWS RUMOR: NOMURA LEAVES VII REMAKE!"

(I'm not even sure if he is new, he was probably part of the team from day one...)

this says that he is in charge of game design for the remake, rather than nomura's role of director. it also doesn't seem to imply that this is a new role or anything, just that he is doing this after working as the director for mobile games (he was battle planner and planning director for kh 258/2 days and kh re:coded)

perhaps whoever say this misconstrued the reference to him being a mobile game director as him now being the director of the remake

I imagine the rumor is just a misunderstanding, but that article reporting it has to be a joke:

First he was pulled off of Final Fantasy XV in 2014, his passion project since 2005, because Square felt his talents were best utilized elsewhere(i.e. Kingdom Hearts III and Final Fantasy VII Remake), resulting in XV being rushed out the door to meet a deadline it in all honesty was not ready for. Still a great game, but it was not the game that would have been produced under Nomura had he been given the chance and time.
"... had he been given the chance and time."

Say it with me: lolololololololololololol

Well honestly that's just as much of an assumption as "he's incapable of time management!" People should probably cool it with either, haha

I don't consider this particularly newsworthy, but a number of games websites have picked up on it so I thought I'd share it here: a Square Enix Holdings Co. slideshow presentation lists the remake (and KH3) in a "FY2018 and beyond" section but does not include an estimated release date. Page 13 of this document.

After boning up on what a Fiscal/Financial year means, this basically tells us that there will NOT be FFVII-R till at least April 2018. So basically, a year countdown began in April, till further notice. They did say 1-2 Blockbusters per year.

So that means 2/3rds of those titles are due out in 2018. So either its 2018 or 2019 for VII-R. We have a window it seems.

That is what I thought as well, but everything else in the presentation suggests that they consider FY2018 to have already started. Hence why a couple of games in that category have tentative 2017 releases and why they already have sales figures for Q3 FY2017. So in fact it doesn't really tell us anything at all.
