FFVII REMAKE CONFIRMED

I suppose the XV thing is wishy-washy given the Versus connection, but everything I've read is how they basically abandoned nearly everything about Versus.

Oh come on. He was obviously joking.
He was obviously serious. Dude first brought it up in discussion at E3 2013 and was still talking about it four years later.

Besides, even if he was serious, the idea has potential...
It does, but that's beside the point. The point is that the game had been announced seven years earlier and was contractually obligated to be released within the next three years -- and Nomura was still whimsically considering and reconsidering the story he wanted to tell with the game.

There's a reason the game almost got scrapped altogether. Mismanagement on someone's part is to blame.

I wouldn't be surprised if Nomura coming in with that suggestion was the straw that broke the camel's back. Tabata had just been assigned as co-director in 2012, then became the sole director at the end of 2013.

He likely has certain excesses, as a creative type. I'm thinking the guy they got to co-direct right now is there to help sort of reign Nomura in a bit.

That being said, they could totally make the stage play portion a musical number. Something more akin to the Fina Fantasy VI opera bit.

They abandoned the stuff that's cheap to produce (story) and kept all the stuff that's expensive to produce (art assets and music). Lol. Well I guess it makes business sense.

If you watch the old footage, you can notice that even the animation for Aranea attacking from above was kept for XV.

I don't think I'd want Nomura being sole director, if the current Kingdom Hearts saga is any precedent to go by.

He has good concepts gameplay-wise and is amazing in terms of creative concepts and battle scenario work, but when left alone to direct entirely... To me, things go sideways. Also, Nomura's visualization of characters in their storyline, versus how the other writers perceive said characters, tend to be different. So yeah.

But Kingdom Hearts 3 wasn’t solely directed by Nomura, he had Tai Yasue as co-Director.

As far as KH3 story development goes most of it would have being Nomura's imput, I dont have the interview at hand at the moment but I do remember in one of them Tai Yasue couldn't really answer anything about the story because his directorial duties were focused on the gameplay aspects of KHIII (he was the lead game designer (4:50) on top of being the co-director)

Of the two, only Nomura is credited with anything story related, while Yasue is not.

Kingdom Hearts is Kingdom Hearts though. I know it's trite to bring Versus up again, but there's an obviously stark difference in tone and dare I say even writing (from what they showed). You can say Nomura might bring in certain changes and shift the focus in a way you don't like based on your opinions on stuff such as Advent Children, but I've also seen instances of him swerving other FFVII staff out of potentially horrible ideas, too.

Also, come on. Just show me what Les Miserables Versus XIII would be like. Unleash Nomura, lol.

This has been my impression of him too. It is based on such limited information that it might be completely wrong. But I get the sense he's all creativity and very little structure. But games need that balance of both.

I remain unconvinced that anything happened besides Square shuffling Nomura over to KH3 and VII-R. The level of slapdash care XV got shows me that they didn't care what they got, as long as it came out on the PS4 and broke even. If they were worried about content quality, they wouldn't be trusting Tabata with it.

If they only cared about the return on investment, the most rational thing to do would've been to just leave FFXV as it was at launch. It made plenty of profit at that point, despite being a complete unfinished mess.
The work they've done since then clearly can't have had that same return on investment as the main game did, but they did it anyway. I think they probably do care about quality a bit!

Something is happening guys...

https://ffvii-remake.square-enix.com/ 's code has been changed today.
Code comparison here: On the left: Old source code
On the right: Today's source code. New JavaScript has been added!

That JS script is linked to an anti-DDOS service (https://www.incapsula.com/).
They are definitely expecting tons of requests soon!

That website hasn't been majorly updated since 2015, when the website was created.
So we will probably get something announced soon! :D

Ohhhh, this fits with the "look for announcements running up to E3" comment.

Also, what kinda nerdlord is waiting around checking out source code?

It fits with the rumors that something will happens this April too.

I checked that website everyday since last week hoping to see any change before something happens. My intuition was right apparently! :D

You were seriously looking through source code? That javascript wouldn't be obvious from just looking at the page.

Yep. I compared the code each day. I know, I'm a nerd (and a web programmer). :P
Comparison is fast using Notepad++, there is a plugin that does the work for you so I just had to paste the new source code each day.

That JS is commented, it's not active yet. And this JS can't be seen without looking at the code since it doesn't change the aspect of the website.

It's still there for me.

I don't think it's inactive though. // is a single line comment in JS last I checked. So that JS is active. Just the CDATA section that isn't.

Maybe they need to test it on the live website, since it's for anti-DDOS?
But even if they change it or remove it, that still means something is coming soon. :P
