If there was just one classic FF that you could play, I'd say it would have to be FFIV.

YES.

The best 2D games on the PS actually employ a 'cheat' 2D, in that they use 2D images arrayed on 3D models to display themselves. The BOF series and a lot of later fighting games, for example.

By the By, FFIV:TA is now officially out on Wiiware, retailing for $8 USD/ 800 pts for the basic package, and $3 for the first DLC, Rydia's tale.

Estimated total price is $32, assuming the 'nine chapters' includes the basic release as a single chapter and update pricing remains consistent (8 + 8x3= 32, natch), or $35 if it the nine chapters do not include the basic release but DLC pricing still remains the same.
Final chapter is due in September.

they kill Golbez!!! The only reason I'd ever want to possibly play the game is to finally control the G-man's Badassness for myself, but they had to ruin that.

Controlling characters like Golbeza is rarely as badass as you'd think before you get to control them anyway. For a prime example, see

Well from what I've read, actually he's quite strong. He uses swords, can cast high-level black magic, can twincast with Fusoya, and has various combo abilities like the other party members.

EDIT - BTW, Nintendo sucks.

Rydia's thighs are far too potent for Nintendo to conceal. At any rate, most of us older FF4 cultists have been using our imagination for years anyway.

oh, that's kind of awesome. I still doubt he'll be as powerful as he was as the antagonist in FFIV though.
