Wow....some of that shit is news to me.

And when put like that...

Heh heh....That..is a rather interesting parallel. ^^;;
[/quote]

Isn't it, though? XD

It seems like they pretty much just tried to reuse the plot of the old game.

By the way, since you seem interested in the game, last night I translated what the Creator says when you meet him for the people over at GameFAQs. I'll post that for you here (spoilers, people):

The Creator (a.k.a. I Might Be More Lame Than Necron) said:
In the distant past... I was born on a blue planet similar to your world.

We exhausted the limits of its prosperity. The soil eroded... We'd indulged ourselves until it was spent...

By the time our great thinkers became aware of what was happening, it was too late to reverse it.

We abandoned our home planet and sought a world with more accomodating ground...

Then long years passed and other generations repeated history.

When the artificially created environment deteriorated, there was nothing that didn't follow after it...

This True Moon is the end result of that occurrence... and I am the last survivor.

How should civilizations be built, how should they evolve...?

I demanded answers, and so I repeat this experiment, recording the processes and results with the crystals I created.

I sent them out to many worlds who had the possibility to develop the presence of life...

[Screen shakes]

But, regrettably... it already seems... you've reached your limitations...

It was a quick translation, but it's probably close.

Hmm, after the FFIV remake, it would make more sense if they released it in the DS.

For that matter why wasn't Revenant Wings released on the PS2? Same with CC?

Because the portable market is generally more profitable.

And for a Real Time Tactics game like RW, you need the touch screen or a mouse to do it at all correctly.

Re: ERSB confirms Final Fantasy IV The After Years to the US

I checked the Japanese Wikipedia to find the origin of the name "Minus," by the way. It should probably actually be "Maenad" or even "Mainas." The latter is what the katakana says, and the plural form in the game is "Mainadesu." That singular and plural are used in the Japanese language for the Maenads, the female followers of Dionysus in Greek mythology.

Anyway, here, this is the conversation before that other part I translated; again, it was quickly done, may not be perfect:

Ceodore: "This... is the Maenads' master?!"

Porom: "Ugh...! This feeling..."

Calca: "......! ......! .........!!!"

Brina: "......?! ......?! .........?!!!"

Cecil: "There's something... inside it..."

[Battle with first form begins]

[After a certain amount of damage is given, it transforms into its second form]

[After a certain amount of damage is given, the coccoon is destroyed and the battle ends]

Ceodore: "Where's it coming from?"

Porom: "Can you see anything? It's reaching into our minds..."

Calca: "......!"

Brina: "......?!"

Cecil: "It spoke... directly into our minds!"

The Creator: "I'm performing an experiment. Do you understand... my words...?"

Ceodore: "I understand... but..."

Porom: "What are you after? What are you doing in our minds..."

Calca: "......?!"

Brina: "......?!"

Cecil: "Who... are you..."

Creator: "As you've probably guessed, I am the owner of the crystals. I created the crystals for this experiment. The crystals spread across your world are, of course, no exception. And, at last, the time has come to harvest them. I ordered the Maenads to go to your planet for this reason."

Cecil: "Those girls...?"

Creator: "Those girls, the Maenads, are advanced experimental subjects I created from the records of many crystals."

Cecil: "So why is this moon moving toward the planet?"

Creator: "Unfortunately, it's time. As expected, you were unable to satisfy me. I can't allow the inferior form of evolution on your world to continue spreading. Therefore, it will be assimilated by this True Moon."

[Background music stops]

Cecil: "Wha-what?!"

Ceodore: "Such-such arrogance!"

Porom: "What kind of...!"

Calca: "......! ......!! .........!!!"

Brina: "......?! ......?! .........?!!!"

Creator: "All of you are nothing more than lifeforms who evolved because of the crystals I created. It could be said that you are my creations. Along with the crystals, the Maenads, and this True Moon. Therefore, you can call me... Creator!"

Wow. Thank you so much for translating that curiousACfan. That's...really interesting how she is.

Yeah, I have to say "The After's" plot heavily mirrors and borrows thematic elements from the previous game, but I can't help but find this new plot pretty interesting, especially with the revelation of who this "Creator" is and how it's the true creator of the world and the crystals. It sounds like it might be a pretty interesting showdown, nonetheless.

It seems to me, and I already knew alot of that stuff, that they did rehash alot of the enemies for the most part. (though I didnt expect much from a cell phone game). But I think they added a decent amount of new stuff in as well.

Game probably isn't going to be a direct port anyway. At least it won't be if they're not complete retards.

I wouldn't be surprised, Dacon. The After has FFVI quality graphics which are more than good enough for a WiiWare title.

Developing a new version of the game would be a waste of money when it will probably sell just as well as is.

Well I didn't mean making a new version, I just meant adding new features and stuff to make people want to get it.

To add to what I said earlier about how FFIV the After just recycles everything from the original? Yeah, not done yet.

*SPOILERS*

So they fight the Creator's final form, can't hurt it, and get defeated. The other party members -- including the spirit of the only dead member of the party (sound familiar yet?) -- shout encouragement, the defeated party members get back up, use the 8 crystals to make the Creator vulnerable, and then win.

Yes, it's the battle with Zeromus all over again. They ripped off their own work, and it's neither charming nor nostalgic. It's just lazy as fuck.

I think that while the "The After" parallels the original, I think its the execution and differences that may make it enjoyable. Just because it parallels the structure of the original's plot in terms of developing and unfolding the events of the story, doesn't mean its necessarily the same or bad. You just have to wait and see. And given that there's a lot more to it we haven't seen (such as the new characters, and new interactions between everyone) there's still a lot the game could offer.

Yeah I'm not saying it's likely to be a crappy game, just that it could've been a bit more original. I'll still probably emulate it though.

Yes, yes, yes!

I was really hoping they would bring this to us after they shafted us on Before Crisis. This makes me very happy indeed.

Well after they did a survey asking ppl to vote on their favorite PSone, Snes and Nes favorite games, I'm guessing that we'll see lot's of games hitting the PSN and the VC.
I won't be surprised if they release Final Fantasy VII, VIII, IX and Tactics over PSN.

I don't have a Wii, so I probably won't be playing it, but I wasn't planning on it being released in the US at all, so I don't particularly care.
