Wow....some of that shit is news to me.
And when put like that...
Heh heh....That..is a rather interesting parallel. ^^;;

Isn't it, though? XD
It seems like they pretty much just tried to reuse the plot of the old game.
By the way, since you seem interested in the game, last night I translated what the Creator says when you meet him for the people over at GameFAQs. I'll post that for you here (spoilers, people):
It was a quick translation, but it's probably close.

The Creator (a.k.a. I Might Be More Lame Than Necron) said:In the distant past... I was born on a blue planet similar to your world.
We exhausted the limits of its prosperity. The soil eroded... We'd indulged ourselves until it was spent...
By the time our great thinkers became aware of what was happening, it was too late to reverse it.
We abandoned our home planet and sought a world with more accomodating ground...
Then long years passed and other generations repeated history.
When the artificially created environment deteriorated, there was nothing that didn't follow after it...
This True Moon is the end result of that occurrence... and I am the last survivor.
How should civilizations be built, how should they evolve...?
I demanded answers, and so I repeat this experiment, recording the processes and results with the crystals I created.
I sent them out to many worlds who had the possibility to develop the presence of life...
[Screen shakes]
But, regrettably... it already seems... you've reached your limitations...
It was a quick translation, but it's probably close.
