Yeah, it's super dumb that the PS1 classics released for PS3 don't work on PS4... If you have a PSP you could get it (or the war of the lions version).

I started this on Android yesterday and have so far only played the prologue. The touch screen controls are a little weird but otherwise the version seems decent.

Chapter 1 took me between 3.5 and 4 hours. And I did overlevel just a bit.

Yeah, sometimes you're going to find that you've had some rotten luck, and a battle that took you 30 minutes will be lost at the very end or something, and then of course you have to do it over again. I imagine everyone's chapter lengths are really going to vary, especially as people are experimenting with different jobs and whatnot, and finding strategies that work best for them.

What are your first gameplay impressions?

As I'm playing through the War of the Lions version (hacked PSP, couldn't find the UMD disc), kinda missing the "don't blame me, blame yourself or God." line. It's a strong first impression to get from the main antagonist.

And what about your early impressions of the characters? They spit a lot of names at you and that doesn’t get much easier, but I’m sure that will be no trouble to you Game of Thrones types.

I've always liked the Ramza/Delita/Argath dynamic more then Ramza/Agrias/Gaffgarion, wish it lasted longer.

Did you read any Rumors at a Tavern?


Speaking as one of us Game of Thrones types, the Fifty Years War "rumor" seems really convoluted.

Which is good, makes the world seem much bigger then just the space the protagonist travels through.

Did you struggle with Dorter? What’s your primary party makeup looking like after this first chapter?

Ramza: Time Mage, Daimbert: Monk, Wulfhilda: Mystic, Guinevere: Archer, Delita: Knight, Argath: Archer. So no, I came into Dorter massively overprepared. (Don't interpret that as advice to make Delita Knight BTW, him and Argath are nigh useless as anything closeranged).

So... I'm getting my arse handed to me by this game.

The Bomb's kept self destructing and wiping me out. I figured out not to surround them unless I can kill it that turn, but this game is much harder than I remember.

Any tips for the battle against a knight, 3 archers and two mages?
Because fire is OP.

PPSSPP is a really nice emulator, and the keys for WoL are set up quite nicely. Yay!

I have to admit though, that I haven't gotten very far.

Spoiler: Some initial thoughts

I spent the entirety of the second battle being annoyed over 1) why it's impossible to set the map in such a way that the houses aren't blocking the view (is this done on purpose? Battle fields are hard to map out? Only it's only like three houses and a river) and 2) why are you showing certain squares as blue on the 'move' command, only to tell me 'you can't move to here' when I pick one of them?

And then, lol, even for how I knew that battle is a flashback, my brain failed to connect that 'this guy is on YOUR team at this point' and so I killed Delita

I'll give it a go later to see if I'll get the hang of it
