I mean they're not terrible drawings, but as far as professional illustrations go I think they're sub par. The cover art was much better. Also Reno appears to be missing his ponytail? Also I'm beginning to think that 'TURKS' just means Reno and Rude to SE. 'Turks' is in the frigging title of the book and yet a third of those illustrations are not Turks.

The dust jacket does have a coloured version of Kyrie on the back, albeit not full sized (cuts off at her thighs. This does seem to be the lot as far as illustrations go in this book, though. Thought they might take the light novel route of having illustrations scattered throughout the book, but I guess not.

Is there much swearing? I thought the compilation had toned it down for the kiddywinks? Anyway,i think the translations should be as close as possible to the original text, so I guess using the closest english approximations works best. I dont think it should be censored.

Case if Barret had a pretty good amount of swearing even in the official translation. Barret and Cid use 'shit' pretty liberally if I recall. If it was ever "toned down" it was likely on the English side of things (of course I guess you could say the original toned it up in English given Japan's lack of curse words), voice acting does handcuff you a bit as you can't use a bunch of &$#(#^ and maintain your teen rating

So, the Japanese have about 50 different levels of politeness when adressing your boss/dad/grandmother/postman but they don't have any swearwords?! So what do they do when they stand on a lego brick or a plug? lol

Anyway, I guess that complicates things a little, so I guess Hito has got to make a judgement call? If it were me I'd toss in a few pisses shits bastards and fucks where appropriate.

Eg 'Cloud was surprised to find that the bastard shit fuck Don Corneo wasn't dead, and he was even more surprised to find the fucker had taken photos of him'

Seriously, I'd just have the swear level equivalent to a 15 rated film, nothing too gratuitous, just appropriate to the situation, mortal danger/anger and whatnot. Or if theres any doubt just leave ________ and we can fill in our own swears

Well I'm sure hito will come in and humiliate me with his vastly superior Japanese knowledge. But I know using impolite speech in a polite setting (i.e. a boy referring to himself as "ore" to his teacher in class) is tantamount to swearing.
Beyond that we'll have to get hito to explain. I know there are words that always seem to be translated in English as curse words (such as kuso...which if you go entirely but dubs and translations means damn, shit, and fuck, so go figure. I do think that's what you want when you step on a lego though) but I don't know what they actually mean.

"Seshe" should be "seishi" (精&#23376, but that's not really a swear word and I would have thought ザーメン was more commonly used than スペルマ. why am i talking about spooge in my thread "Aishi-au" would be the loveliest swear word ever.

Although it does actually have the word from the book there as well lolz (くそ野郎/kusoyarou). That said, it's not really like the book is full with words like this, or that I was planning on using it a lot. Just a bit here and there And if it come across as too out of place it can always be changed later.

Interesting, I see "Kuso!" is shit (and can probably be interpreted as damn, fuck, or any other short word that translates to "oh no this didn't quite go as planned") - I'm wondering if that noise "kss(-uh)" sound that Kadaj uses in AC/C is related? As in he's not really saying it, but the audience will get what he's trying to say - a little like when people write f***?

It might be the same thing, can't remember now. It just ends up kind of slurred when you're mad and just kind of spit the words out. There is also ちぇ/che, which is an annoyed sound as well.

I guess the problem there is that while it's probably not something you'd want to be muttering all the time in polite conversation, it's also not quite as bad as 'shit' in English. Like when things aimed towards younger audiences use it, and people can get overly zealous stating that it must have been aimed at an older audience originally. But it's just a word to say when you're annoyed, and obviously not that bad for the kiddies if they let it get used in the first place

I love how the Japanese use their words like that. They have a much more audible, or should I say vocal - language than the ones I know. It's different. I like it. Also, how the expressions on their faces can sort of add to the words (like using a wider smile or an "o" shaped mouth to underline a word).
