Final Fantasy VII PC Re-Release Thread

Claymore

3x3 Eyes
You honestly can't go wrong if you follow that guide step-by-step Claymore. I recommend the FF9 battle interface btw, the FFX one really doesn't suit the style of the game very much. And if you're trying to update but stay as true to the original as possible, go with the updated chibi models rather than the full characters in the field, sometimes the backgrounds look really odd with the full characters (the chair in Aerith's house is taller than Cloud for example).

Also worth noting is that a new installer is apparently being worked on because that one is a mess. It won't break your game or anything but just to let you guys know.

Thanks for the pointers. Gonna attempt it this weekend.

Hi all. I've always been bothered by the changed music cues in the PC release. Shademp posted about this a long time ago:

Also, but I don't know if these are due to innate differences between PC and PSX, but when the church scene switched to the one where Reno steps on the flowers there was no music. Turk's Theme simply stopped playing.

In Shinra HQ, when you see Jenova, the music switches to "Who Are You". Normally it keeps playing even when the scene switches back to Cloud, but here "Who Are You" stops playing and is replaced by "Infiltrating Shinra".

*EDIT: Another faulty music cue. In the Nibelheim flashback, right when Sephiroth has burned down the village and Cloud is running up Mt. Nibel, the tune "Those Chosen By The Planet" stops prematurely. When we see Cloud, alone, running up the stairs to the reactor entrance, the theme "Under the Rotting Pizza" (which is the mountain theme here) plays briefly. It is odd and hurts the atmosphere of the scene.

Basically the PC release either removes or changes what track will play in certain scenes compared to the PSX release. I'm asking if anyone can think of anymore occurrences of this? To me, the worst change is having Mako Reactor play during the scene where
Cloud throws Sephiroth into the mako pit. In the PSX release, the Main Theme of FFVII would be playing, which made the moment feel so much more important.
This is also my favorite scene in the game, so it bothered me that much more.

To mod I've been using Makou Reator to edit the proper field data. I've also removed the open mouths on Sephiroth, Jessie, Wedge, and Hojo's character models. It was just impossible to take Seph seriously during the Nibelheim incident when he always looked so shocked.

Thanks for the help!

I've played the PC version many times and the appropriate theme plays during that sequence (in the lifestream/ Cloud's memory) so I'm not sure what could have caused that when you were playing.

Wow, that is striking. I don't know what to tell you, maybe my use of certain mods has fixed it in the past or something.

Um, correct me if I'm wrong but the PS Version kept the Main Theme going right? That sounds very jarring and if I recall correctly you have the last musical swell of the brass as he lifts Sephiroth up and throws him into the lifestream. It's all dramatic and perfect. Knowing the very limited bit of info I have about game creation perhaps there's an auto music cue in the map for the "Mako Reactor" theme that overrode the scene music?

Yeah, the mod Makou Reactor is perfect for adjusting these kinds of things. It's really just a matter of rewriting the field script to match the PSX version since they use identical formats.

Here are the instances I have so far:
1. "Turk's Theme" quits playing before Reno walks over the flowers in Aerith's church
2. "Who are you" is replaced by "Infiltrating Shinra" when Cloud falls over from seeing Jenova in the Shinra Headquarters.
3. "Those Chosen by the Planet" is replaced by "Under the Rotting Pizza" when Cloud runs into the mako reactor during the Nibelheim flashback.
4. "Main Theme of FFVII" is replaced by "Mako Reactor" when Cloud throws Sephiroth off the bridge.

There are probably more scattered throughout the game, so please let me know if you find any!

Hmm, I've mostly played the PC version so I didn't even know there was a difference.

Though I'm checking the scripts from the PSX version and the PC version, I can't seem to find where the difference is, they seem to be exactly the same...

Though interestingly enough, I had a glitch when I first played it on Win 7 that played Shera's theme instead of Yuffie's, even though that theme was not programmed into that scene...

I looked through the scripts for a few of these scenes and noticed a "lock music" command. I think that command is supposed to keep the music the same even over a field jump, but it doesn't seem to work in the PC version for some reason. I'm not sure how you'd fix that though.

I'm convinced this is a bug now honestly, I grew up with the PS version and switched to PC and back and forth between the two for numerous playthroughs. I HAVE had odd music occurences in the past (back before people had tinkered with ficedula's FFVIIMusic launcher), but I don't ever recall the wrong song playing during a scene (it was all resuming issues which have now largely been corrected).

Aside from the time I put Beyonce's "Freakum Dress" in the game instead of Mog's theme for the minigame. It fit surprisingly well.

The music problems are with how the versions handle the music rather than the data itself. As Shademp mentioned sometime ago, the music of the last field you were in plays after you beat Mystery Ninja. You'll heat the usual theme for a fraction of a second before it switches.

When you enter the Zolom from the Marshes from the Mythril Cave (possible because of the menu skip trick), the WM theme at the time will play in the map rather than Trail of Blood. This is actually true for most areas if you exit to the WM then re-enter immediately. I kept triggering this when leaving Mt. Nibel because the camera made me run straight back in.

And the easiest to trigger is the one with the Highwind. Board the highwind (without a chocobo), then try to land on grass but continue moving so it doesn't land and lifts off again. Most times the WM theme will then play while travelling on the Highwind instead of the Highwind theme. Enter the Highwind and it continues on the bridge.

Well that's depressing news. You're right, I looked over the files myself and the music lock is there but something is not working correctly.

I guess finding the solution is going to be a bit trickier than I thought!

This is the PC version of FF7 with the correct music synced to the Cloud's Past scene. In the original PS1 release of FF7, The Main Theme of Final Fantasy VII plays with a unique loop that eventually builds up to the moment Cloud throws Sephiroth into the mako pit. In the PC re-release, this unique loop is missing and the song reaches it's climax far too soon, causing the track Mako Reactor to play in its place. I did the best I could to correctly rework the correct music into the scene using the PS4's SHAREfactory. Enjoy!

I've been noticing a few music moments are out of loop on the PS4 port.

It's been driving me up the wall. :@
