I quite like Super-ultimate War-God Supreme Slash Options, actually. Better than Omnislash.

as for the other query: Flayer > 方天画戟 > Hōtengageki > Fang Tian Hua Ji [It is a Chinese double halberd spear, I would have called it Fang Tian Hua Lance, but no space in the game. Ji is still OK to use ]

Everything is being translated, and everything already has been none dialogue. I cannot reply to your post yet as I am using a proxy site, and it will not allow me to post with the correct formatting. The Black Chocobo is Tohofuhai, Cid's weapon is Seiryuu Scimitar. >>> Can someone please take my IP off the banned list? It is: 94.193.81.249
Yeah, I know their names. So you gonna translate 青龍偃月刀 just to Seiryuu Scimitar? Not Green Dragon Scimitar? It's actually a crescent-shaped weapon carved with a green Asian dragon. It's up to you. Just a little opinion here.

Hmm...on that omnislash. It is a touch choice. I hope there's one translation that can include all the kanji in it. Probobally none. The literal translation would be too long and verbose. I still really hope you can take 超究 into it. Maybe Ultimate hachiman slash or Ultimate Ares Slash would be better.

Btw, what about Yuffie's weapon 不俱戴天(conformer)? There's a idiom called 不共戴天 which means two have feud for a long time. Also "俱“ and ”共“ both means together. So maybe you can give it a more accurate name rather than conformer? If I am wrong, feel free to tell me.

I don\'t think green comes into the name (and it wouldn\'t fit sadly). On Yuffie\'s weapon, I chose \"Eternal Nemesis\" All of these things are documented and will be opened up on March 1st. Last minute changes will then be accepted until 1 week later.

Try fitting super, ulti, or ultra onto the front of the attack name, see if it fits. I think having one of those 'makes' the attack name.

I think it will fit, will test later. Ultra Ares Slash certainly will. I will check later but I think we can geta way with something like "Ultimate Wargod Slash" The problem now is these Chinese Weapons... I try my best to stick to their respective names. The Fang Tian Hua Ji was easy, but this other is not really feasible as its chinese name. COnsistency is key, but, am I write in saying this Green Dragon weapon is not really a weapon, but merely fictional and just a meaning rather than an established real life weapon?

Geez, my first reply was gone due to some IE brokedown.

Ultra Ares Slash is a good one, imo.

About your question, I did some research into some Chinese websites. Yes, the Chinese historians have agreed that Guan Yu's weapon was not Seiryuu Scimitar. At that time, the weapon was not created yet. But in Ming and Qing dynasty(about over 400 years ago), it existed as an weightlift tool. Also Crescent Blade did exist and was used in wars as a weapon in Song ( almost 900 years ago). I guess Seiryuu Scimitar is a special form of it, one carved with asian dragons.
Fang Tian Hua Ji is also fictional, according to my research.

Eternal Nemesis is a great name for Those kanji. You did a good job.

yup, I agree. I have taken a lot of time on this and Yuffie\'s Limits (apart from Bloodbath) leave much to imagination and free choosing of words which was fun. I need you to join me on msn or somewhere, to discuss this properly. Your Chinese knowledge will be valuable, especially if you would look through the main document as a proof reader? If you want to, sign up at my forum break-off.co.uk and PM me. There is a bit too much to ask to do it here :)

Dillydally\'s help has been very good, explained much about the chinese works and especially idioms. Found some good corrections. I need more Japanese people to look through this document too. Make it bulletproof.

Only 1 thing is now missing....the world map dialogue in Japanese placed with the english.

The english is as follows (I extracted this myself from game file):

Cloud: “We're moving!?”

Cloud: “This is bad!”

Cloud: “Hoo boy…There's no way we can walk across now.”

Cloud: “Not even a Chocobo could make it across…Isn't there a more powerful vehicle?”

Tifa: “Huh? What!?”

Tifa: “W, wait a minute!”
Tifa:「ちょ、ちょっと待ってよ!」

Tifa: “Whew…The sand flows almost like a river…I guess we can't get in.”

Tifa: “Not even a Chocobo could make it across…Let's not go in this way.”

Cid: “Whoa, whoa, whoa!”

Cid: “Damn…This's a problem!”

Cid: “You gotta be kidding.”

Cid: “Not even a Chocobo could make it across.”

“Wark!?”

“Wark! Waaaark!!”

“!?” [Ruby Weapon encounter]

Cloud: “Oh man…a breakdown? Now?”

Tifa: “Hey…Why did it quit!?”

Cid: “What energy! Damn! You think I'm just gonna give up!?”

Cloud: “…I got the feeling I'm forgetting something…”

Cloud: “Hey, would you stay there just a minute?”

Tifa: “…Let's see…where was I going…?”

Tifa: “Please, Chocobo, would you wait just a minute?”

Cloud: “…Snow…as far as you can see…Better watch where I walk.”

Cloud: “Now for the Chocobo…”

Send it back to the stables

Turn it loose

Cloud: “Watch out.”

Tifa: “Let's see…should I:”

Send the Chocobo back to the stables

Turn it loose

Tifa: “Bye. Take care.”

Cid: “Ok, Chocobo, I'm gonna…”

Send ya back to the stables

Turn ya loose

Cid: “Take care, kid.”

Cloud: “…First, I gotta do something about her.”

Tifa: “I can't just leave it there…”

Cid: “Damn kid! I'll get her no matter what!”

Cloud: “…I'll place a landmark, and start walking. (Place a landmark by pushing OK button)”

--------------

I manually decoded some of them to give you an idea of what is needed but since I don't know Japanese I cannot do a proper search online which will save me 2 hours painstakingly decoding it all with an Hex Editor.

Others I decoded:

Cloud: 「まずい!」

Cloud: 「やれやれ… これじゃ歩いて渡れないな」

Cloud: 「ここはチョコボでも渡れないか… もっとパワーのある乗り物なら… ?」

Tifa: 「え? えぇ!?」

Tifa: 「ちょ、ちょっと待ってよ!」

Tifa:「チョコボでもここを渡るのはムリよね… 入らないようにしよっと」

If anyone can find me the Japanese for most or all of the text above I would be very grateful.

Sorry for this "triple post" can't wait for the edit button...

Anyway just to update, I created my own bog standard decoder in Visual basic, and so I do not need the above information anymore. :) I have decoded the lot myself.

Still need a few people to check through the entire document at my forum though, to make sure there aren't any mistakes.

Also, I noticed something earlier that no one seemed to have picked up upon:

Heaven's Cloud >天の叢雲

天叢雲剣 < This is the sword name. Whereas the above seems to be just a name, that is based on the sword. So maybe something like "Cloud of Heaven was nearer than the sword name in this instance? I would expect they would use 天叢雲剣 if they actually meant for the FF7 Weapon to be named exactly like the real weapon. This is the case elsewhere....

Daniel, I was looking through your document and I still have a long way to go (I can already say "great job," though), but I was curious about something. You decided to go with "Aerith" for the flower girl's name, but I was wondering why you didn't go with "Earith."

That's how Nomura wrote it on his design sketch of her (source: FFVII Ultimania Omega, pg. 534), and that is, of course, how it's written in katakana. The name isn't intended to be an anagram of "Earth," but the actual word as it's written in English, only done in katakana (source: FFVII Kaitai Shinsho, pg. 14).

Anyway, back to studying the document. :monster:

I was not aware of this....I did see that "earth" was mentioned, but I thought it was specifically mentioned as an anagram?

Famitsu, ed (1997) (in Japanese). Final Fantasy VII Kaitai Shinsho. Famitsu. p. 14. ISBN 4-7577-0098-9.

Are you saying her name actually IS Earth? or that it was supposed to be Earith? It seems strange that it has now become Aerith in that case, adn officially?

It is rather odd that it's officially "Aerith," but I noticed that you said you were going for spellings based on the actual katakana used and what the developers seemed to intend.

I don't know if maybe they changed their minds at some point, but Nomura definitely originally wrote it as "Earith."

Anywho, as for it being an anagram or whatever, this is how it was described on pg. 14 of the Kaitai Shinsho:

ネ―ミングの由来
EARTH (大地)」の読みかたを変えて命名

"Source of naming
Designated a change to the reading of 'earth' (ground)"

The Twilight Mexican

TresDias
"Earth" is typically written in katakana as アース instead of エアリス -- in other words, it's typically written how it sounds instead of how it's spelled (this is true of most foreign words written in katakana). But in this case, they spelled it out in katakana the way it's spelled in English.

So, yeah, in a sense you could say her name is meant to be "Earth." I'd go with "Earith," though, since Nomura spelled it that way.

I think in this case an allowance can be made, an EA and AE I don't think makes much difference and the problem with Earith is it would be pronounced "ear".

I think the general idea is that it was just based on Earth and they have changed it around...

Possibly he meant Earith or maybe he was just getting the sound right?

like for example:
