Final Fantasy VII: Time Guardian

I'm someone who's spent a lot of time messing around with the game through mods, script editors and viewers etc., Shademp can attest to this too. So believe me when I say this is one of the most impressive things I've seen done with the engine:

I badly want to play around with this :)

Wow, the use of the FFVII trailer song at 5:09 takes me back...I remember years ago it took me a long time to find that song. xP

Anyway, that's sort of interesting, I guess. :p

It looks like an enormous amount of work went into this. Most of the changes seem interesting, some seem a little odd or unnecessary. The new menu features look clunky, but that's a limitation of the engine, I guess. And Red XIII riding a Chocobo is just hilarious.

Yeah I don't like the look of it, looks like a hassle to use. Well, maybe not a hassle, but something that would be a mild irritant during a long play session =/

Is this an a full working mod or is it still in development? They reused the Kalm area a lot in that video so I figured other areas might not be done yet?

Whoever is responsible for posting about Compilation Fan Creations. I forget who :monster:

*will watch the entire video soon, a bit busy right now*

^don't bother with the last 4 or so minutes, it's just the FF theme and some floaty stars :monster:

I'm interested in the extra dialogue stuff, and the NPC routines and possible extra quests. Not so sure about the lockpicking thing though.

I like the use of a Wanted poster for Yuffie. Nice reference to the Early Material File.

- The Team Management menu needs to be more streamlined. Way too tedious. My only guess is that the tools to play around with PHS menus, without causing glitches, don't exist for the PS1.

- HOLY CRAP a visible three-member party on the field! The two other members actually follow behind you! That is so unorthodox for FFVII! :D

- Ore harvesting, huh?

- I can't help but feel that the idea of a full game spanning from Cait Sith trying to get the black materia is spawned from the speculation that minigames were planned for when Cait Sith touches the pyramid model.
(See Unused Text Part 8, Ctrl+F for "The mechanism")

"Lost Quest and Beta Content
Restored from Ultimania etc"
I very much enjoy the attention to detail

"Ain't no Elm around here"
HAHAHA! :D

"Oh yes.. I remember the days when
there was just one exit to this farm."
"No indicators or anything! Trapped
a few youngsters here it did, I tell ya."

THIS TICKLES MY FFVII GEEK NERVES

- Field skills relevant to the character? Plus points.

YUFFIE IS RUNNING ON ROOF TOOPS OMG OMG OMG :aah:

- Vincent and Red XIII riding on chocobos is most hilarious.

In the world of FFVII mods, this trailer is a most welcome refresher.

First of all it's the PS1 version. Modding for the PlayStation release is way more difficult because it requires more steps than for PC (something I know from my modding for the Unused Text Series) and there are way fewer tools for the PS1 game.

Secondly, the mod isn't a graphical overhaul. Updating the graphics is cool but we've seen it so many times before.

Thirdly, the focus (at least not in the trailer) is not on adding new bosses, making the main game more difficult etc. It shows an entirely different way of playing the game.

Game design is hard and it would not surprise me if the mechanics introduced in this mod end up failing to engage the player for probably more reasons than one. But even if this mod turns out to be lackluster in the design, the trailer oozes with love, creativity and a neat appeal for the niche group of those who know a lot about the unused content of FFVII. This one is already for the history books of FFVII mods, in my opinion.

It is very cool, I'm curious as to what you....do though. Is there new stuff to do? Or elder Scrolls style quests?

I've always wanted to play that hardcore mod that added the team of SOLDIERs and other Red XIII creatures with dedicated cutscenes and stuff. But so much of the mods difficult is just "GRIND A SHIT TON TO PROGRESS." I spent 45 minutes fighting the Guard Scorpion and still lost. I don't even know how you're supposed to grind there when you can't heal. I'd like to play their extra stuff on a normal difficulty.
Or, a difficulty mod that just requires advanced materia setups rather than insane HP counts and levels.

First of all I got super excited when I saw the video. Secondly I started doubting the real content, as it seems most of the stuff presented in the video revolve around certain characters interacting in certain environments. Thirdly I have a feeling this project is way too huge to finish and it probably could face some legal problems (please correct me if I'm wrong, but what do you think SE would do?). To answer these questions I did a bit of googling and run into this:

So that's it then, I guess. I loved the idea, but I have to admit I'm happy it was too good to be true. If they decide to continue working on it, the chances are this will turn into yet another unfinished kickstarter project. Geez.

Completely understandable, but that is a real shame, as this looked very unique and interesting to the usual mods out there.

I'm all about atmosphere in a game - the flow of the day and things like the change of the music in relation to the time and place: just beautiful! Little touches like NPC schedules, Yuffie examining the poster in Kalm, and shops opening at certain times - I'd love to just explore around. While it may not be continuing, I'd like to think some day when (if) such work becomes easier, there'll be something out there like it.

And 03:18 - the man who seems to either fall into the ground or just "break" as he lands. Fantastic!
