Somewhat random, but in case anyone is a Russian speaker/reader I stumbled upon a Russian translation of chapter 2 of the Fragments Before novel. I believe this is the Teacher and Children chapter told from Serah's POV. Not sure of it's complete; the chapter is set in New Bodhum before events of the game and centered on Serah, Snow, and other Nora members.

Normal tonberry can be found in a distortion in Bresha Ruins, 300 AF.

I got him once. That was in that area with all the stone pillars, right around where you get the purple chocobo (I did anyway). I had no idea what was going on. Then I saw Tonberry and was all 'O SHIT'. A minute later he'd knifed me. Business as usual

I've been getting some guy... It doesn't sound like Caius, I guess it could be Hope, but it doesn't sound like him either. Sounds like a NPC voice. I got this voice twice in a row, the past two days.

It's easier to complete Augusta Tower 300 AF before you move on to 200 AF.

Edit: Okay. I've found a video where a guy does pretty well. I don't have poison on Noel, which I guess I should have had, but what bothers me with this video is that his Noel is so much faster than mine!!

How do you increase ATB speed? Because I have over 6000 HP and this dude only has like 4500!!

grab a weapon that has +ATB%, rather than a weapon that has pure damage output.

Is that the one in the Void Beyond when you fight him with just Serah? My stats were maxed and it fucking took me forever. You literally need a sentinel present at all times or he just kills you so quickly. I ended up just sticking with SAB/SEN and debuffing and wounding him to death. Nightmare.

if you retry, it doesn't give you a screen where you're in the menu as per usual for that fight? if anything can't you just hop back into the historia crux?

idk i'm gonna go attempt this fight in a minute and see how this goes!!

No, you don't have an option to press the triangle button. If you go back to the Historia Crux you only have two other places to go, like it was at first playthrough.

I think the battle is all about timing, really, because

Noel don't launch if you keep attacking

. Also, I only have 1 debuff for Noel and I think debuffs are key here, as they usually are with tough bosses who heals.

Edit: ...and now it seems I'm stuck in the game. I'm missing the fragment I need to get back to the normal Historia Crux. This is hilarious.

Noel battle took like around (literally) 3 or 4 minutes here, at most. I just attack and... that's it. Serah's, on the other hand, was too hard for me. I debuff him like crazy but he just debuffs me as well and it becomes a debuffing battle and I die after I just can't keep up my healing with his attacks .

You're talking about after you've finished the game, right? Just so we're talking about the same battle. Because the one I'm doing - noone in their right mind can call that battle "that's it"

that Noel battle Paradox Scope version wasn't that hard for me, I recall? In any case, it didn't take me more than one try. That's why I thought Serah's "version" would be easy; and it was not

EDIT: I remember the difficulty of the battle I was thinking of before (around 3 minutes if that much) was BEFORE finishing the game. The one after finishing the game is not piece of cake, but as I say, it didn't take me more than one try. It's also true my Noel was 8000+ HP by that point.

I managed to take Caius down with the Paradox Scope with both characters. You definitely need a SEN on you at near all times with Serah's fight because he's much tougher there. I just worked on getting Poison and Deshell on Caius while my Silver Chocobo took all the heat before switching to COM/SEN to whack away at his damange.

If he ever did a big move, I would switch to SEN/SEN before going back to whittling away at his health. I had a Grimoire Hat on, so rather than waste time using medic, I used a potion to heal up and continued on my way.

Noel's is much easier. Get Deprotect on him and just knock him around. Switch to SEN whenever Caius does a major attack before going back to COM. MED only when necessary.

The bestiary fragment is all I need now. ; ; Gonna be painful.

Did you mean Augusta Tower 200 or 300 AF?

You buy them for Casino Coins at Serendipity. I think they cost 7,500 coins.

You can buy one at Serendipity; just one. And for 10,000 coins unless you've got the needed talent... which I think I only received after finishing the game? Or pretty close before finishing it anyway

Don't worry, the game gives you enough wild artifacts to open everything you need, of course!! There's 10 of them. I don't know if I posted it on this thread or the spoiler thread, but I did post the location of nine of them (the tenth is on Noel's homeworld).

Ah. He was right above 6000 for me at the time.

Spoiler: Battle tactics

Not that it should matter that much, but 8000 would have him been able to stand through most of the attacks without healing, and then I could have kept hitting Caius and not get launched - and then just SEN'd for the larger ones in the end that launches you anyway. Then heal up while he's in "only doom mode", keep hitting him, heal up when he does Body & Soul and hit away. Rinse and repeat.

Yup. I got all 10 of them before finishing it. You can get the discount skill from finishing all time versions of one of the maps -

I believe it's either Bresha Ruins or Yaschas Massif, I can't remember which one. But it has to be one of those two. I only know it's not the Oerba one bc that one you need to finish the game to get. Finish all of the fragments and then head to Serendipity and talk to the chick in the leftmost house.

Spoiler: All wild artefact locations.

1. Bresha Ruins (005AF) - You need moogle hunt.
2. Bresha Ruins (300AF) - You need to use moogle hunt on the ghost guy in the graveyard and complete his quest.
3. Oerba (200AF) - Moogle throw needed, side of house near the big tree.
4. Sunleth Waterscape (300AF) - Moogle throw during that annoying section on the back of that big ugly thing.
5. Archylte Steppe (???AF) - Moogle throw on the very western edge of the map, its on a small cliff below.
6. Augusta Tower (200AF) - On the 50th Floor.
7. Academia (4XXAF) - In an alley in the southeast of the map.
8. Yaschas Massif (100AF) - Do all the floaty red thing quests, then solve the temporal rift puzzle.
9. A Dying World (700AF) - Come back a 2nd time and examine the farseers relic/ where the oracle drive is/was.
10. Buy it from Serendipity.

This is from the official guide, and also I just got my platinum trophy so I can vouch for their locations
