I think the light levels are meant to be bright because of the snow reflecting.

But seeing completely blue skies at that point irked me a little.

I am looking forward to doing some of the Sidequests and messing about a bit more with the Snowmobile and seeing what other lulzy references that the localization team've snuck in.

Also –
Anyone know what the implication of him not being able to burn off his barcode was? I definitely opted out of doing it in my playthrough, but it seem like Aranea's answer either way is, "Didja really think that'd work?"

Ok, this makes me horrible person, but
I chose to burn it off in my first playthrough. :closedmonster:

Literally nothing happens. He screeches in pain, holding his wrist, but Aranea still says the same thing when she shows up, but it shows her healing him with a potion as well. He's stuck with the barcode 4LYFE.

Also, I was talking to someone on Twitter the other night, and I was saying that it would be awesome if we got a multiplayer mode that was set during the World of Ruin. Learning how to survive in a post-apocalyptic world, running escort missions to get resources, doing hunts for super demons... I totally dig it. I'm sure there would be more added to it than that, but come on, how cool would that be?!

Have to done any of the sidequests yet? I did one of them (My Little Garula), but only one because I realized that I REALLY needed to finish playing and go the fuck to sleep before 3am. :awesomonster:

I did the majority of them. I think there was one I missed, but I fought the Kaiser Behemoth and got my trophy, so that's all that matters. :awesomonster:

I think the one I missed was something with a Walking Dead reference in the title. I did level up my snowmobile quite a bit though, but it's all for naught considering it doesn't help you in the trials. >_>

Well I played through it first on Easy (because reasons--don't judge me) and now I'm playing through it on Normal. Did the same thing with Episode Gladio too.

There is one sidequest where you have to fight a Lvl 99 enemy, but it's a doozy as long as you hang in the back and let Aranea do most of the close range fighting.

I often do that, so no judgement whatsoever. :awesomonster:

Good thing that the, "be far away & let Aranea kill stuff with CQC Dragoon-ness" is my go-to tactic.

She's also about 20+ levels above you, so there's that too. :monster:

Her Intensive Training is a bitch. I've gotten her health down so many times but I just need an extra potion or something. :'(

OH – On the FFVII Connections front there is some really good shit in Episode Prompto.

In main game's venture into Zegnautus was already like Trail of Blood, and there's no difference here. The connection to Hojo-like dark experimentation is on full display here. After all of this, there's little doubt in my mind that FFVII will be able to go into all its dark & terrible sciences without shying away from things. The scenes with all the clones in capsules, etc. and Prompto having some Cloud-like hallucinations about his identity were handled really well and in interesting ways where you get small sections with Prompto as an unreliable narrator that got me really excited to see how they'll do similar things with Cloud in the Remake.

Additionally, while playing the snowmobile escape section, my girlfriend said, "This is just like the snowboarding section of FFVII, and what the Remake should be like" and I couldn't agree more. After hearing how that section is often seen as mood-whiplashy, after playing this bit, I was COMPLETELY on board with the fact that if it feels like an escape (from the Turks and ShinRa) that you can still have fun with it, even though things are really serious without having conflicting tone.

Also, the cover and sneaking around reminds me strongly of what we've seen screenshots of in the Remake, and if it'll let you character swap, Prompto is a solid version for doing controls for Vincent/Barret for taking out targets at range, but still feeling like it's a part of the same game.

@Tres: I think he's meant to've been aware that he's not a local, but not specifically where he was taken from or what his actual past was until he goes on walkabout.

So, that's settled. He somehow knew he was from that continent, just not that he was a magitek trooper.

I kind of feel like this just raises more questions than it answers. We still don't know who got Prompto out of the magitek facility, still don't know who his biological mother was (or whether she was that Naga in the Fociaugh Hollow), and still don't know if Regis may have known this stuff all along -- but now we also have to wonder why Prompto knew that he was from Niflheim without knowing the rest of the details; and also if the Naga is in fact his mother, whether her consciousness was preserved on some level through the same process Verstael eventually perfected for himself.

I think we can scratch out the whole
weird Naga idea, as in my opinion Verstael makes it pretty clear that these Magitek Troops are just test tube baby clones with no real need for a surrogate. At least more of an artificial process than, say, Sephiroth. Even in the case of using eggs in the process, it's hardly something that would involve that person on such a deep, emotional level IMO. Obviously I would know nothing about that though. Of course, I'm just a bit biased against the theory anyway.

Though I totally agree with you. The whole 'absconded by a Lucian' thing definitely gave me a feeling of having more questions than answers.
Who took him? The Glaive, I guess? Why were they there? Who knows of this?
Prompto definitely would've known something was up though. He's got a damn barcode on his wrist.

Glad to know I was correct in my interpretation. Insofar as that other bit –
The audio clips are pretty clear that since his human testing was closer to what he wanted,
but getting enough kids to test on was an issue that he started cloning himself. The clones all look the same, but have different coloured hair and other features, to it makes sense as to why Prompto wouldn't have a mother per se.

I do wonder if the memos from the worker expressing misgivings about the work that's being done there are meant to show how Prompto getting taken might've occurred with a little help from within. I'm still incredibly curious what the specifics were there though.

Insofar as the Naga, I think that she just detects the fact that Prompto was a stolen child with some sort of magical connection like you often get in mythology where entities can detect little things about people but not in specific, which is why she nabs him. I don't think that there's any real connection between the two of them so much as a loose thematic parallel that's being very subtly foreshadowed.

Also, the soundtrack is really awesome in this.

I've succesfully gotten Shad hooked on the
. Naoshi Mizuta outdid himself with the score for this game. This one in particular is also my favorite, because it's catchy and literally the perfect music to cruising around with Aranea on my snowmobile.

Story was very well done. Except I call bullshit on the final boss, which if you haven't played it yet... You'll see what I mean. I'll post my thoughts for Episode Prompto soon, but it's safe to say I really enjoyed it.

Except the snowmobile trials can go die in a fire. :awesomonster:

Aight so. The Stormblood expansion so far follows pretty much the same formula as Heavensward and ARR - main quest, endgame content / dungeons, grind for tomestones, then higher level tomestones, raids, etc.

But so far, nothing really new. I will say that the storyline is (much?) better, but that won't carry the game for more than a month.

Is there anything known yet about content coming in future patches? Previous wossnames were Gold Saucer (which I haven't done much of) and Palace of the Dead (good addition, wish it offered some more rewards).

My prediction is they'll do another PotD
in that endless tower thing in Ruby Sea
. Besides that, no clue yet. I do hope they add more original content though. That or I should arse myself with Diadem / PVP, crafting, etc :monster:

What should that have really told him, though?
Neither he nor anyone else in Lucis has any reason to associate that with Niflheim. Of course he would know that it's abnormal, but unless someone went out of their way to tell him where he was from, he would have no reason to think that it wasn't a leftover from some kind of abuse by his birth parents if he knew he was adopted ... or some kind of medical procedure if he didn't know he was adopted.
