Oh – I forgot to mention how fantastic the music in Comrades is. It really just exists quietly within the atmosphere, but in the best way possible. My girlfriend's mentioned it several times while watching me play my way through over the last few days. The more you start to branch out to the other outposts, you really get a feel for how isolated and desolate everything is in the darkness. Also
some of the outposts stop trading in Gil entirely, and only exchange items for weapons that really helps to show the desperation and collapse of civilization.
There are a TON of really heavy little emotional beats from the various NPCs around as well, trying to maintain some semblance of normalcy. Lots of really good examples of all of this at the start of Tres' current stream (which I'm watching until I get home in a couple hours)

I might try and give this a go after midnight, but it'll likely be tomorrow/Wednesday before I get proper opinions up about it.

WELP! It was definitely fun wandering in the dark (literally and figuratively) but it looks like we're in the land of the Comrades guides now. (I will appreciate optimizing my build as I get further on and need to invest more time in maxing out weapons and such).

Well, I mean, I wasn't trying to rain on anyone's parade with that info (it doesn't cover a Katana I recently picked up that was completely Tainted by Starscourge).

We're COMRADES after all, right? :awesome:

And anyway, I have problems in my right eye, so PSVR is out of the question for me. So I'll leave the VR experience to you guys!

Completed the main story of Comrades today.

If you want to see my playthrough of that section, it starts at 2:09:40

Overall, it nailed me SO heavily, and I just loved it to bits. Getting to feel like "I" actually got to step in to the game and play an important part in the restoration of the Kingsglaive was awesome, and being there, off on the sidelines as Noctis returns was really just the best feeling ever.

It's apparent that there's some more planned. I've gotta go back and challenge Bahamut again as a Level 50 Mission – which hopefully I'll be able to do with some folk from here, or other real friends, as it would be the most satisfying to do with proper friends. Also, the Norduscaen Garrison doesn't seem to have anything in it whatsoever, nor is it available, so I think it'd be really interesting to see if we get to expand a bit on what's there – even if they're just little extras.

Can't overstate enough how much I've loved this, and want to keep playing. Additionally, I did get to do something else cool afterwards:

Fight all 3 Chocobros (which hilariously glitched out on my first attempt). I can find a timestamp later as it's still rendering at the moment.

Additionally, Prompto was the last to go down, and said something as he did, which means that I'd bet that all three of them have individual things that they say that Tres will doubtless hunt down as soon as he gets here.

Lastly, I'm gonna put all of my screenshots into the screenshot thread if you CBA to watch through the footage and whatnot.

I'm hoping they improve the load times between sections, as it really takes a long time.

This (official) infomercial-style trailer for "Monster of the Deep" is hilarious:

Have to appreciate how aware they are that this is an odd thing to be marketing. That pause in "It's the immersive fantasy RPG VR fishing experience you've ... always wanted" really says it all. =P

What makes you say that? :awesome:

... I done it. :monster:

Looks like it's actually random who speaks, though, regardless of who falls last.

I am even more excited for this now. I wonder if I can use my Comrades stuff or if I'll have to manually rebuild from screenshots.

Can you not doublecheck what colors and attire you picked through talking to Dustin?

I meant screenshots of the character creation screen (since that's how Lith rebuilt her Comrades character when she had to purge all her save stuff), so yes – exactly by talking to Dustin. :awesomonster:

Ok, finished it. Episode Prompto was kinda....meh, I guess. Had way more fun with Gladio. The alternate route through chapter 13 is nice, although I wish the option to do both was there.

I like the game. It pulls off the "cinematic" feel that Squeenix has been tring to get right for ages, especially with the Leviathan fight. Ardyn is great, and steals every scene he's in, effortlessly. The main cast fit together really well, and, despite complaints from some of my friends, I never noticed any real glitches.

Combat is kinda like the FXIII games, in that it's fun if you don't just overlevel and hold X. I was enjoying myself plenty after figuring out the input delays for finishers and directional combos. And I love the car.

Dunno if I'll bother 100% it, but I had plenty of fun playing. Probably will get the Ignis DLC when I get back from Europe in January.

Finished all of the missions and trophies in Comrades yesterday. I'm currently level 47/50. Then I decided I'd finally go back to XV proper for a bit and fully finish off my Bestiary (the ability to accept multiple hunts at once might be one of the best things to ever happen in this game, and makes the prospect of a full NG+ seem about 1000x more enjoyable).

Planning on topping out my level in Comrades tomorrow just for fun, and then likely gonna see about Trophy hunting for the 10x Full Cross Cain Combo, and then dive into the Gladio DLC & then Prompto to see about finishing those ones off, since I didn't when they came out. Then I'll likely be more motivated to 100% Ignis when his DLC drops, so that I'll have 100% in ALL THE THINGS FFXV, other than just the main game and Comrades.

Overall, Comrades has REALLY resparked my love of XV all over again, because it expands the system in all of the ways that grew a bit stale in XV once you started getting OPAF.

Additionally, I've done a little bit of Monster of the Deep, and it's decent fun. The cutscenes being on a Movie Screen type interface is a little odd, and I feel like the character height is always a little off, and need to adjust it, but the actual fishing bits are fun, and being able to check out a Chocobo, and chat with Noctis in VR was properly cool.

Hit Lv 50 in Comrades. Been occasionally diving in with some of my friends who're starting out, and it's still a ton of fun running missions and helping out lower level players. Secondarily, I'm waiting for RNGeezus to have Cid show up for me, so that I can make a weapon upgrading Avatar, and make some new stuff since there's literally no point in making weapons without him if you're maxed out otherwise.

Additionally, I jumped into the main game, and got the Cross-Chain trophy with a little Bandersnatch farming, and then did Gladio's all items/all columns one. Thinking about trying to hit 100k in the score attack, or maybe going and getting the other trophies in Prompto's DLC that I've been needing to for a bit.

All in all, I'm REALLY loving all the motivation to do all these XV things again, and for anyone interested in spoilery things, Tres found some interesting translation discrepancies between versions. Hopefully he'll post those here, since I don't have the link on me at the moment.

In other news, I also hit Level 50 in the multiplayer and have done everything that can be done (all quests, trophies, and the optional super boss), but I'm still going to get on and help out anyone who wants the assistance from an overpowered level whore:

Strong as I am, the method I took to get here has its disadvantages -- namely, I have no Magic or Spirit stats (though I do have 100% resistance against Dark and Shot).

I'm thinking of manufacturing an Elder's Bow (best crossbow in "Comrades"; I have one that just needs modifying) granting me some measure of magic resistance at least so that whenever the expansion to this expansion inevitably drops, if there's a particularly unforgiving magic-wielding enemy, I can swap out one of my weapons -- and lose just a little bit of this insane Strength and Vitality -- to get past them.

Or I could maybe try to mod the bow to also give me significant resistance to Fire, Ice, and Lightning? If none of the elements can hurt me, the Spirit stat may not even matter outside healing (which I can take care of anyway by modifying one of my other weapons to heal me as it causes damage).

Any advice on how to approach this is welcome, though I think I'll see what I can do to give myself broader elemental resistance.

Active Time Report covered Episode Ignis, there's a mode where you battle against a fully teched out Noctis at Hammerhead. There's an upcoming update where you can character swap between all 4 Chocobros in combat, and they play like they do in their DLC. Additionally Tabata talked about fan desire for an Episode Ardyn as being something on the roadmap maybe? My Japanese isn't the best, but I'd expect news outlets to have proper summaries soon!!!

Character swapping is great news :)

I'm REALLY impressed by it. In addition to making me even more motivated to finish up Trophy Hunting Gladio & Prompto's DLCs (which I started this weekend), it's gonna make the game feel REALLY interesting with having all of those combat styles available to you.

It makes me really interested in how these developments are synergizing with FFVIIR having multiple characters who all fight very differently, and if that's at all played into why they've been holding off some of the news, so that FFXV can essentially act as a distant beta test to those sorts of features before the show them off.

The new character swap systems brings an important question: Will you still get game over if Noctis is K.O will you control other characters?

That reminds me that in some of the stats they went over, they looked at data for who stopped at what chapter if they didn't complete the game, and how many game overs players experienced on Easy & Normal. It'd be interesting to know what sort of things were being discussed while analyzing that data.
