I do not think I will ever get tired of looking at this.

Having thought more about the Dany/Drogo thing, it's not nearly as big a change as it first seems. She effectively has no choice in the book either. She's basically forced into the union by her brother, and women weren't expected to say no in marriages. They were little more than chattel. Granted, in the book it's emphasized that Drogo takes his time and makes certain she's ready before their first consummation, but the narrative indicates that he does not do so on many later occasions (and emphasizes that many of their later copulations are quite painful for her), and her internal monologue actually suggests that she is close to suicide before she decides to take matters into her own hands. It's easy to forget this, but it's there. So they've changed the order of what happened, but they haven't really changed the substance all that much. Either telling is creepy and Stockholm Syndrome-ish. They've just chosen to play it up more for the TV series (although the character being four years older in the TV version does remove the deliberate values dissonance about young brides that was present in the original novel, because for one thing it would have been pretty much impossible to film).

That's just the way a lot of people talk in interviews when the transcriber doesn't cut out all the verbal tics. Noam Chomsky uses a lot of verbal tics as well and he's one of the most articulate people I know of. Actually Martin's tone in interviews reminded me of Chomsky's a lot more than I thought it was going to.

Yes, you had to :monster:/

Yeah, that, :monster:. It's really the only major change I have trouble with, as changing this particular detail really forms Drogo's character. In the TV series, well, he falls exactly into every stereotype about barbarian-kings ever conceived, whilst in the books I more chucked him into the honorable warrior type (slash pedophile, but eh.)

Of note, 3rd episode (latest) is awesome and full of win. It's quite a bit lighter than the first two episodes, as in, less serious business. It also introduces a dozen or more characters, :monster:. And no gratuitous porn scenes this time which, imho, is a good thing.

Nan, <3.
Petyr / Littlefinger, <3.
Varys, <3 although he's even more of a fag in the book. Plus, voice too low.
Speaking of fags, Lancel takes the crown. :monster:.
Syrio, <3. Although, Russian accent? :monster:.

And in preparation of the next episode (or my hopes thereof), hodor hodor hodor hodor hodor HODOR hodor hodor hodor.

This blog is pretty funny and it has a lot of great gifs. Though there is occasional nudity so it's not exactly sfw.

I'm going to add a couple of them as emoticons in a moment :monster:

:direwolf2:

I also kind want to add the ones of Dany and her handmaid and of Tyrion pissing but I'm not sure whether those would really be appropriate considering some people might consider them borderline nsfw :monster:

According to the westeros.org wiki (which contains spoilers so I'm not linking to it), the handmaid in question is Doreah. She's described in the books as a blonde but I guess they didn't really care that much about hair colour.

Please don't do giant images like that as smilies, almost nobody will get it and it does not contain enough lulz :monster:.

Edit: Unless it's the animated one. In high def.

The bitchslapping, however, does.

Also, the gifs on that tumblr are shit. Jaime getting bitchslapped and laughing about it, in higher definition / framerate / proper colors is win though.

There are actually a few smilies that we need to get rid of. There are a few that I've never seen anyone use. I'll get on that shortly.

I didn't add the one of Dany and her chambermaid. I did add the wolves though. Because it's shocking how expressive dogs can be (those are a breed called Northern Inuit which was made specifically to look as much like wolves as possible).

Yes

it would be nice if some of them have higher framerate. I like 'em regardless though :monster:

Oh hell yes, Tyrion slapping Joff as an emote would be WIN \o/

I know they had troubles with the wolves/dogs during filming. It seems that one of them didn't get along with the others, so maybe that's why we don't see them that much :/

Aside that: great plot (DUH), great characters, great ACTING, great visuals, good music... Seriously, what is not to like about GoT???

And the episodes keep getting better. And since it's been a long while since I read book 1, it's great to see it live, I can enjoy it pretty fully - and it renewed a lot of discussions in the book thread in my gamer forum too. \o/

Actually, I think the acting's kinda stiff / forced at times, doesn't look natural, sometimes even outright comical when it's not supposed to be :monster:. Note also that this is the first time I've ever attempted to form an opinion on actors, so I might be all wrong and/or too critical in this one. It's better than Spartacus though.

And dogs rule. Ours mainly has one expression, which looks something like :duhard:.

Actors all seem great to me. I did study acting for a couple of years but I was never all that good at it. However the characters' emotions mostly seem natural and not forced, etc.

Anyway, fourth episode was really good. The increased use of direwolves was win, and I'm glad we finally got to see Ghost for more than a brief shot. I will attempt to acquire more direwolf .gifs over the next couple of days. Also, the actor playing Sam was perfect.
