I’m pretty that’s not exactly what they said. IIRC they said they won’t be beholden to the Compilation titles/exact continuity, in the same way the Compilation wasn’t super specifically beholden to the OG or even to other titles within the Compilation. It wasn’t a total mass decanonization like what Disney did with the old Star Wars EU.

I want it decanonized fast.

Surely most of it is continuous with the other games anyway? Isn't it?

I don't remember any Obi-Wans not remembering owning droids.

Regarding the splitting points you guys were talking about, I'd love to throw my 2 cents in the bucket, but I'd be repeating what I already discussed in my Game Talk Episode 1 video, so I'll leave it at that.

For those who have never seen it or feel like rewatching it and have around 45 minutes to spare, Here you go.

@ChipNoir: that's what I sincerely wish for. There's a thread on the GFAQs board somewhere in which people made up their own FFVII banter and it was glorious! It's one aspect I loved about FFXV.

The lack of chances for the party to discuss amongst themselves is one of my strongest issues with getting into FFXII, it just never feels like that party cares about being together, the game just sort of tells us that they're friends. I love whenever you have the chance in FF7 to talk to everyone on the bridge of the Highwind, and yeah XV took that to the next level. And hopefully VII won't interrupt every single conv-IMPERIALS ABOVE US

I don't remember that. Must have missed it under the pile of shit usually over there.

I am 100% behind making the thematic pacing of FFVII Remake match the way that the Lord of the Rings Trilogy manages its pacing. Even when Max starts talking about things like completely replacing the Kalm conversation and restructuring it into the prison cells in Shinra HQ feels like it could be pretty damn brilliant.

There's a lot of stuff that he mentions about the RE2 Remake and the multiple generations of people working on the game who helped make it something that turned out as well as it did that I hadn't considered, but find more and more interesting. June cannot come quickly enough.

How did I manage to get through the game without being interrupted by Imperials? Was that a patch?

The gall of Nomura, having the temerity to help make a bunch of our favourite games.

I tuned this game out of my mind for the last several months, but I'm right back on the hype train. Never had a chance to enjoy a game alongside the good crew here on LifeStream. This would be a perfect opportunity to do so once Remake VII is out.

As for hopes, I'm just interested to relive some of my fav moments. Maybe see things that happened offscreen in the OG (the massacre in the Shinra building, etc) and seeing how the world looks. I'm just super excited right now. Can't wait for E3.

When it comes to expanding the Midgar section of the story, I'm wondering if we're going to have an expansion around the "Golden Shiny Wire of Hope" section when it comes to how Cloud & Co have to get to Shinra HQ. That's a portion of the game, where you're definitively locked in to the Cloud, Tifa, Barret team and you've just lost all the other members of AVALANCHE. If you're crawling up through the wreckage of the plate, it might be interesting to have to find a way to get through more of the city to reach the Shinra HQ Building, especially because it'd be interesting to get a sense of how the people on the plate are reacting to the news about the whole sector being dropped.

Also, just from a mechanical standpoint, I think that's one of the areas of the game where I'm not sure that the same sort of puzzle mechanics would work as well, and that if there's any opportunity to get a better sense of what Midgar is during a still urgent and relatively brief period of time, when you have a fairly small number of elements to worry about with story (locked party of only 3 characters), this is a good section to expand a little bit.

Some thoughts on how they can expand everything:

Make the reactors much larger and more complicated entities to get through. The trailer's 20 minute timer seems to imply they may have done so, but still worth being stated.

During the exfil from Sector 1 Reactor to the Sector 7 slums, have Cloud actually try to make it to the station, but miss the train for whatever reason(s) and then, as he tries to figure another way down, enters that confrontation with the Shinra soldiers.

Expand the slums and the time it takes to make it from the station to the bar.

Instead of having the Sector 5 mission be the next day, have them lay low for a few days and/or do interesting side missions or have new (lower profile) storyline missions in between. Have it be like a week or two in plot time.

Maybe make a playable section of what Tifa and Barret did while Cloud was in Sector 5 and 6.

Expand Sector 5 slums. Have sideplots and other things to do there. Same with Sector 6 and the Wall Market story. Make the sewers more extensive.

Expand on the pillar attack. Maybe include the attempted evacuation, maybe include the first part of the attack that we don't get to see.

Thats all I have for now, but I feel like those alone would add a few hours more of gameplay right there.

This. I expect this is going to be how we'll be given time to enjoy a much larger midgar, and give us a chance for each of the avalanche members to get to know Cloud, and in turn, allow us to get to know them. This'll be a razor's edge, since too little and it'll disapoint people, but too much and it'll feel bloated.

I say it should probably be about maybe two hours of storyline content, and a maximum of 8-10 hours of side content assuming it's midgar only, or half that time if we end at a later period.
