I haven't posted here in years now, but I couldn't read this and not reply.

I can't understand how this game is difficult for you. I was 10 the first time I played it and never ran across any of the shit you're complaining about.

My son started playing it two weeks ago. He's seven.
Seven!
He's had one game over, never gotten "trapped" anywhere, has completely mastered the battle and materia system, and completely understands the storyline (so far). He's had very little direction from me. I explained the Fort Condor side quest, told him how to get Yuffie before Junon, and took the controller from him at Don Corneo's and mashed through the dialogue while explaining it wasn't approriate and giving him a synopsis of why they were there. He's done the rest on his own (though I almost took the controller to do it myself when he took five freaking minutes to get the button timing right in the second reactor). He just got through the first visit to Cosmo Canyon and his party members are all level 33-34.

This game is beyond easy.

Maybe I'm not being generous though. Maybe you're brand new to video games so it isn't a fair comparison. After all, my son leveled Jecht up to 75 for me in the first Dissidia game when he was two because I didn't like playing as him. He's also played halfway through FFIX, has almost beat FFX, and has spent a fair amount of time on The Force Unleashed series, Skyrim, and Diablo III (which is my favorite game to play with him). He is also fairly invested in tabletop RPGs (Pathfinder, and one that he and my husband designed together), so he's very familiar with the RPG genre.

Most of his gaming experiences have been on the PS3 and Xbox 360, and yet he's never brought up a single complaint about "bad graphics" and "awful sounding music" that you find to be such terrible faults while playing this game. He thinks the blocky sprites are totally endearing and stood outside of Aeris's house for a full minute because "the song is pretty".

In short, I don't think the problem here is the game, but rather an incompetent player with absurd expectations for a game that's older than he is.

C'mon dude! You're letting a first grader outdo you!

A+ parenting. :monster:

Note to self: Dissidia is not worth playing.

Because he's not 16. :monster: Umatbru has coolness to strive for. You just don't understand, mom.

I'd still have my money on umatbru.

I dunno. If a 7 year old can has a better grasp on RPG that's older than him than a 16 year old who is almost as old as FFVII, well... :monster:

To be honest, I would rather like to see what Joppylop's son thinks about FFVII than rather muster up the effort to read Umat's reviews on FFVII. "7 year old kid reviews FFVII" sounds rather catchy, don't you think? XD

I just encourage him as I happen to occasionally enjoy this kind of humor.

But this is actually a brilliant idea!

I'm currently on the Plate section. Cloud has to jump on a bar, but everytime he jumps he misses the bar, EVEN THOUGH ITS RIGHT IN FRONT OF HIM, THERE FOR THE CATCHING!

Correction:

Every time you press the button, you miss the timing, even though there are very obvious cues to follow...

Cloud is just a character, he does what you make him.

Nah, I have to say that bit is fucking impossible, even after 16 years it's a lot of trial and error.

Yup, it's just like Blargon says. It's one of the few parts of the game where I didn't get stuck :P

I normally hit the button just as the bar touches the wire.

Ha! A review by a seven year old sounds like a great idea! Maybe I'll make a new thread for it and we can do a play by play. He's only allowed to play video games on the weekend, so it would be a little slow on updates though.

I've now managed to jump over the bar, then climb up another tube, but its all for naught as I am at another dead end. NOW WHAT?
