People who say that Love Story is bad BECAUSE of Romeo and Juliet are being too nit-picky, tbh. Romeo & Juliet IS a love story, albeit a tragic one, but really, when you think of famous love stories what do you think the mainstream would point to first? The most famous one of all time. I think that's why the names were picked, the actual tale they belong to is moot as far as the song is concerned.
Also, whose video really is better also does not matter, tbh. The decision was made, the award was given, and people need to just accept that. Kanye doesn't get to decide, no matter how important he mistakenly thinks he is.

I think it's more of a tragedy than a love story because I would not call two horny teenagers who get married to be love.
If I wanted to point to a love story, I'd be Pride and Prejudice or something at least somewhat more developed than that of Romeo and Juliet. I also don't like it because it plays every five minutes at work so there.

A love story and a tragedy can be the same thing. It's about two people who fall in love and what they do to be together, and in the end one (or both as in the case of R&J) dies. And way back in the day I'm sure it was one of the best. I mean it had to be to still be as famous as what it is. I don't really think it can be compared to Pride and Prejudice. One is a novel, set in a different time period and a different local, where people have the leisure to read when they will and can take as long as they like, where as a play HAS to fit into a time slot of only a couple of hours, and you have to tell the entire story all within that time frame. Also, to be quite honest, not even everyone in the mainstream would understand if Taylor mentioned Elizabeth and Mr. Darcy.
Sad, yes, but true. It makes more sense to go for the names that the most people would recognize. Even if they know nothing about the play people still know who Romeo and Juliet are, and associate them as lovers. So having a love song using their names works. It doesn't have to jive with the original story to make sense if one is open minded and thinks about it more creatively.
Also sucks to be you that it plays every five minutes but that's life. The radio station I listen to doesn't even play her stuff so I've yet to get sick of it, since I only hear it when I want to hear it.

You know, that's really funny because Kanye West hopping on stage like that really could have worked in Taylor's favor. He is a popular and well liked musician (even if him as a person isn't quite as popular) and if he would have said something like "Taylor Swift really held it down this year she came outta nowhere and tore it up I just wanna say congrats" or something like that, not only would he have gotten publicity, but that would have really made Swift's day. It would have helped them both.
But he had to go and make her cry. What a dick.

On YouTube people are saying that Beyonce's PR reps paid Kanye to do it or something like that so that Beyonce could steal the show by bringing Taylor back out and thus increase her image in the public eye.
