Kingdom Hearts III

January 29th...that's shortly after KupoCon, guess I'll buy it in Glasgow then. :monster:

Plenty of time for my platinum run of all the games.

Also, I still haven't actually played DDD. I had only finished the short 0.2 game that came with it. :wacky:

We could totally go buy it together :monster:

And Tasha comes in to rain on everyone's parade yet again. Who could have seen this coming.

Maybe they looked here and delayed it "a year" just to mess with you.

It's Tash, and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who's very annoyed that Square Enix messed up with their timing of Kingdom Hearts again.

Sorry. I was really looking forward to see it this year. Should've known that when they say one thing, it's never meant to be taken seriously and always have to brace them in changing their words again.

Happens every time. Remember that Winter news they meant to stay but it never happened? It's like that with *2018* this time.

As Hian eloquently put it on Discord.

We all know the real reason KH3 was delayed to January is because they want to release FF7R in 2018 with a KH3 demo

I thought they were starting FFVIIRemake from scratch, considering how KH3 was in development more than the Remake. There's no way FFVII Remake will be released this year.

Where on Earth did you hear something like that? Just because they pulled development in-house doesn't mean starting from scratch. Also, there was never any indication that the Remake was going to come out this year. What are you on about?

Sorry. Well, usually when they pull out of another developing group, they start right from the beginning. They did pull out from using that other Engine they used for FFXV when they first announced KH3 six years ago and then they moved to Unreal 4 Engine and started it up all over again.

FROZEN CONFIRMED!!!!

New trailer from the MS conference

I knew Frozen would be in. I'm really okay with Frozen being in KH3.

Edit: But seriously, poor Aqua! Why her of all people? Now I'm really worried about Sora, and Lea. And Ven. I seriously expected the heroes to end up fighting Terra with Aqua having no choice but to fight him.

Does this mean the next saga will have her of all people as the next antagonist or something? Or is KH3 really the final game of the series?

It's literally only going to be 29 days outside of 2018

Jesus fuck, holy shit

It's nice to have an actual release date. The delay doesn't bother me because I haven't played a KH game since KH2, so it gives me slightly more time to get the PS4 collection(s?) to get up to speed and have maybe some hope of understanding what the hell is happening with the plot of this game. :monster:

Watching the trailer, it just occurred to me, since it's been so long since KH2 came out, this'll be the first console game in the series since Disney switched over completely to 3D CG animation for its animated feature films. It's nice to see Frozen, Tangled, Monsters, Inc., and such in in KH, but it is a bit noticeable (at least in things like the Frozen cutscene with Olaf) that graphically the game can't quite match how the movies look. I'm sure it won't be a big deal or anything while playing it, but it's just interesting that the 3D CG movie to 3D game transition has its own issues that 2D to 3D doesn't have.

It's actually January 29, 2018, After AD. The next chronological era. We'll be waiting another few millennia, and KH3 will be primarily for our future Jupiter-Brethren.

I would make the argument though that the Toy Story cutscenes are on par, possibly better, than the first Toy Story movie in terms of graphic fidelity/image quality.

I for one am looking forward to getting into my cryogenic tube in December to prepare, I booked my tickets last month. That's why I got so hyped about Frozen, future visions you know?

Btw, the game releases earlier in Japan, on the 25th. Four days filled with spoilers before the west can play it.

Still not in 2018 though, but I'm calm down and just going for an super disappointing annoyance until I see the actual game itself.

As they say, beggers can't be choosers.

Well, four days outside Japan is still less than two weeks like 2.8 had last year.

I'm still hoping to see Agrabah again, but I'm really dreading the ending of KH3.

January is month XIII of 2018 :wacky:

Anyway, the trailer hnnnng, MS had some good shit to show I see

OMG AQUA WITH THE EYES AND SUCH

Also this looks so ridiculously good. It's like a playable CG movie, the style and animations match the Disney/Pixar stuff perfectly. Goddamn!

Yeah, you're right. I had missed the Toy Story trailer, but, having checked it out, I agree - they really nailed the Toy Story look. I'm not really feeling Goofy and Donald's toy designs, but tbh none of the new redesigns are as interesting to me as stuff like The Nightmare Before Christmas or the Steamboat Willie ones.

I think with some of the Disney stuff they're in an odd situation where they can get considerably really close to the overall look, but there's stuff like Rapunzel's hair and Sully's fur that are difficult to do in a game (I would assume) - and since they do look closer to the original than 3D vs 2D would, it's easier to note where they don't quite match up (for this reason I wonder if The Nightmare Before Christmas might've been "easier" to have in KH then than now). I don't know enough about animation in games vs movies, but there's probably that, too, whereas I would imagine in the past there was much more leeway in that respect, since a 3D PS2 game was never going to be able to (or need to try to) closely match how the hand-drawn animation looked.

That's not true either. The things that you have to take into account when changing game engine are fundamentally different from what you need to tackle when you're just changing development groups.

If you're changing an entire game engine, you're changing the core driver of what's rendering and building every single asset in the game. It makes it so that you just can't utilize what's already extant and you NEED to rebuild things, because the software that you're moving to is likely fundamentally different in many, many ways – especially if it's an in-house developed engine that doesn't have any migration tools.

If you're just moving who's in charge of a project and pulling something in-house, all of the stuff that's previously been built under contract is still viable, it's also still owned by the parent company, and it's still in a format that can be utilized. So they can use anything that they want, and there's no need to start from scratch whatsoever. Even if they're displeased with the way some things turned out, it's infinitely easier to iterate from an extant model than it is to start from scratch a majority of the time.

There's literally nothing to suggest that SE just trashed everything that CC2 did, and with a project that'd been underway for as long as it had before they parted ways on it, it's basically unfathomable that they'd've just scrapped everything and started over.

January sucks ONLY because now I have to listen to jokes about it being "delayed" for the rest of the year...

Now shipping :monster:

Kinda sucks that the KH3 trailer played during MS conference - I watched a reaction video and there was like... no response. To anything. Not a gasp or cheer or scream, not even for Aqua at the end.

I'm pretty sure I heard a small cheer for Aqua in the video, assuming it's the same one I saw. But yeah I know what you mean. Hopefully if there's more at the Square conference tomorrow, people will go nuts. If not, there's always the video I posted :awesomonster:

Yeah, it's basically confirmed that there are more trailers today. Might see Xigbar and the Twilight Town gang considering the content of the orchestra trailer.

It's interesting to see the differences between English and Japanese trailers, in terms of dialogue.

"This power... so you're Elsa" sayeth Sora in Japanese. "That's amazin! You can control ice" in English.

Well, it makes more sense in Japanese, since she recoils when he says her name. Huh. I wonder how many more apparently arbitrary changes like this there'll be.
