I think I might enter that art prize >.>... and then give away the XBOX stuff if I win .
i remember when they did a contest for the world ends with you, and people were like 'square are going to steal your designs and give you nothing!!'
please tell me no one is saying anything like that this time
So you may not be able to apply any physical evidence that it is your drawing. But which one of us is so popular that people would even recognize our signature or name if any of us won?...may not use any watermarks but may contain a signature by the artist provided that the signature is capable of removal at the request of Sponsor or Square Enix if the entry is adapted for use by the Sponsor or Square Enix as a winning entry...
All Works submitted will remain the exclusive property of the Entrant...
The three winning entries will be used in connection with a direct advertisement for LIGHTNING RETURNS: Final Fantasy XIII placed on deviantART as a homepage billboard takeover or winners announcement in Square Enix's homepage and announcements. Entrant specifically consents to this use and understands that the winning Work may be adapted, altered or modified in any fashion for this use.
Entrant acknowledges that Square Enix have had, and will continue to have, numerous other artists render artwork based on Final Fantasy properties, and that Square Enix may freely use any such artwork without any obligation or liability to Entrant whatsoever notwithstanding any coincidental similarity between such artwork and the Work.
I think that the limited amount of information and the time constraint are both part of the challenge. Think of it like this. You get to work at SquEnix as a character (re)designer for a short period of time (in imagination land). It's your first day on the job and your boss walks up to you and says "gobble2000x550gobble Lightninggobblegobble", and "get that done for me within eight days".
Your boss then makes an announcement that he is going out of town for 8 days and there is *no way* for you to communicate with him/her because you aren't in a shared-phone number/facebook friend kind of a relationship.
With only 8 days to complete your assignment and umpteen million questions swirling around inside of your head, you need to work with the information that you were given, using your best judgement.
Asking questions such as "what about this/what if that" will only hold you back from getting started. Just go for it. Regardless of whether or not your entry is chosen as the winning design, you will still receive some kind of recognition just by submitting an entry to the contest folder in the first place.
Good luck everyone! :]
with the twewy contest people thought that square were making people design a character for free, which they would then put into the game and screw over the poor artist
that didn't happen, of course
when they say you get to retain property of it, that sounds fine to me? i mean, even if they did use it in the game, that means you should at least get credit for it (name in the ending credits or something--the little kid who designed one of the bonus dresspheres for ffx-2 international through a contest got his name in the credits). not having an obnoxious watermark or signature is probably because they will be using it to make promo stuff with, and having like half a signature or cropped out watermark would look crap. and the 'coincidental similarities' one i guess is just to cover them from someone coming along down the line and saying 'that part of that design looks like this part of my design'.
i would enter because i want the cash (and wouldn't mind an xbox i guess, though i'd probably see the games since i have them all already ), but i don't know if i have the time to make the entry and i'm not very good
