The 5 minutes Brasil was on stage was more interesting than the Opening and Closing Ceremony put together. As for the Olympics themselves I enjoyed, they had more than a few memorable performances like Usain Bolt, Misty May/Kerri Walsh and those Chinese divers, oh and NBC can go to hell for not showing the Woman's football gold match on their main network.

This. Can't wait to see what Brazil will do with their opening ceremony they're the first South American country to host the games :3.

I overall didn't really like how NBC hosted the games though, some more obscure events like Fencing/Weightlifting/Judo were kind of ignored, and the horrible call during the Epee individuals(Germany v. South Korea) didn't make things any better, I don't even think they mentioned it. And the closing in on people's moments of shame and embarrassment was pretty horrible :/

For what it's worth, I like the song, I agree with the message, but I think it was very out of place at the closing ceremony. Imagine there's no countries... at the Olympics?

Yeah I thought that was weird, when the whole idea of the Olympics is the best athletes representing their countries.

Though it would be cool if we could just find out who is the fastest/strongest etc without getting bogged down in nationalism.

Olympics punish political statements. Isn't nationalism a political statement? I guess that must be the exception . I won gold because I come from X country (although in some cases I've never been there my entire life and wasn't even born there), although all my coaches are from Y and Z countries, as is my equipment, though it was made by cheap labour in W country =p.

As I've argued before, it all comes down to luck, and not in the supernatural way =p.
