Nintendo Switch (NX)

Looks like a gimmick that actually has a practical use for once :awesome:

Although it won't exactly fit into a pocket like a handheld.

Drinking game: Take a shot everytime the Switch logo snaps together :comedian:

Colour me intrigued. It looks nice, and, as Tets said, reasonably practical. I particularly like the look of the "traditional" controller. Show me specs, show me game libraries!

Probably gonna get this, Freybs is mad about Zelda and I don't want to get a Wii U for Breath of the Wild, when it's gonna go obsolete in 20 minutes.

Time to start selling my used undies methinks....

Looks pretty fascinating, I like it. :D Though my dad brought up a good point, in that VR is right around the corner. Will this system have VR capabilities? If not, it might quickly fall to the wayside.

It's good like, cos the advert is all 'hey you're a hip, jettsetting type of person, look you can take this with you everywhere, you can play games in da cluub, or on a plane, or with your trendy friends on the way to a festival'

When they know full well that the top 3 places this is gonna be played: 1) on the bus/train 2) in bed 3) on the toilet. And I myself won't even manage the first one :monster:

I'm almost 100% certain that VR is why the Joy-Con controllers are designed the way they are.

I'm not making any VR investments. I actually want to be aware of my surroundings while I'm playing video games. There might be a scorpion on your ceiling.

VR is and will remain a niche market for quite some time. I cancelled my pre-order the day before it was due to ship (PSVR that is) because while I'm dying to try it - even just to play my current games on a "cinematic" sized screen - it's a pretty hefty investment for now.

I'm just saying I don't think VR is going to be the "next step" in gaming like some think it is. I'm really into it and will get VR for sure, because I'm a huge geek and love the idea. But I'm not sold on this idea that everything is going to be VR focused in gaming from now on.

Nintendo Switch is an awesome handheld/ console hybrid, and I'm thinking about getting one. Given Nintendo's general stance on console/ handheld specs (i.e. they're about half as powerful as the weakest alternative available), I doubt very much this device will be VR capable. You pretty much just need to look at the size of the machine to know that. But I don't see that as a detractor.

That Mario game briefly seen looked new btw. Wanna know what it is. :monster:

On the other hand, I'm not gonna get this any time soon. I got my Wii U just last year and even then I have admittedly not played it very much (and only own like, four or five games for it).
Good thing that Breath of the Wild is still coming for Wii U.

Games so far:

* Zelda for this generation of consoles
* A five-year old game that has been ported to all consoles and whatnot already
* :monster:

As I said on FB.

That thing is going to have horrible battery life. The Wii U tablet basically needs to be near a charger at all times and its a significantly lower quality and smaller screen.

This thing looks like the same dimensions of first round Ipads, probably has a 720 or 1080p screen and in addition to that needs the controller(s) to hold their own charge?

Yeah portable my ass. Maybe MAYBE if Nintendos Wii U tablet wasn't hot garbage I would have a sliver of faith lol, but other wise this just looks like fun around the house and definitely not the DS replacement it wants to be in addition to being a home console.

FWIW it looks like they learned a very valuable lesson though. Marketing is key and that intro slider before every cut was a good touch to help remind people it's a completely different console.

That and they didn't choose a retarded name or something. Good lord I feel bad for kids who work at gamestop and need to explain the differences between stuff like DS, New 3DS, 3DSXL , Wii, Wii u, to parents who aren't hearing it lol.

Really excited for this.

The trailer was kinda... I dunno, hipsters trust fund kids.

The clip of the girl playing in her appartment, then going over to the rooftop seemed sad to me. It seemed like she had gone through a breakup, and shut herself away, but she's finally getting back to normal life, making an effort to socialise more.

:P Im weird

You know what would be pretty ironic? If Final Fantasy VII finally comes out on a cartridge for a Nintendo console.

I am pretty much definitely going to be getting one of these, especially if the price is right. The look of the console is sleek and it brdiges the gap between handheld and console. It's literally a handheld console, rather than just a handheld device if that makes any sense. The library so far looks good and I'd be willing to bank on the future capabilities, especially since the device also seems to function as a tablet.

Good work Nintendo. You have finally given me legitimate cause for intrigue. :monster:

The "expectations vs. reality" bloggers are gonna have a field day in March 2017!

This is crazy ambitious! Skyrim loaded for a WiiU controller?? I know I'm behind the curve on tech savviness, but this seems... good. Exciting. I don't trust it.

What... is this feeling...?

It's a good ad, the possibilities are definitely intriguing but there's a few things I want to know. Three things, actually:

1. What's the battery life on the portable part?
2. How much internal memory are we getting?
3. What's the game library going to be like?

Because let's be honest, the Wii U was a bit of a wash overall.

Oh actually one more thing: backwards compatibility? I feel like that's a must for 3/DS games if they really mean for this to be the next big handheld.
