It's much, much easier to just get an old PS2 - uses less power, makes less noise, and is much, much cheaper than a PS3.

That's what I still do, :monster:.

In fact, can't they make a PS2 that is forwards compatible with the PS3?

Yeah, I did so too, although not recently :monster:.

Or wait, that was still a PS1 game. Are PS2 emulators good enough yet?

Very true, though...my PS2 is louder than my PS3...

Well...neither one makes a lot of noise, PS2 just has a loud disk tray. Now, 360's freakin' loud.

The best PS2 emulator out right now is flawless with a high end graphic card. If you don't have a good enough card, though, you won't get 60 fps.

pretty much, but you need a good CPU too.

A good gaming PC is all you need though.

If you let it overheat it can get that way.

I sure as hell wished I waited getting a PS3...Fuck.

Doesn't look like the slims are BC either.

Well at least a lot more folks can afford a ps3 at 300 now. Personally don't give a shit about the redesign.

If you're talking about the PCSX2 emu, it relies much more on your CPU than GFX.

I can run FFX and Okami on it full speed with a 2.66GHz processor and a shitty 128Mb card. Damn I love that emulator. If you have a 3Ghz or higher processor you'll be laughing. Of course, not all games can be emulated no matter how good your comp is. It's a shame we were screwed over so badly with official PS2 emulation on PS3, as now we're gonna have to keep a PS2 and/or emulator indefinitely. I'm on my second PS2.

Reckon I'll get an old fatty PS3 for Xmas, they're £250 new now. OMG, am I finally entering the new console generation?!

They can, you just need a better computer, :monster:.

Really, a computer's all just layers - there's a software layer on top of your hardware (CPU), a layer on top of that, then another couple, and then there's your actual software. Each and every of those layers are interchangeable - you can replace any software layer with a hardware one if you want to. It's just not done often since said hardware layer would become increasingly complex, :monster:.

But with that in mind, you can replace the PS3's hardware layer by software. It'd be very difficult and time-consuming just to get it to work, let alone to get it to work efficiently, but that's part due to its complexity, and part due to it not being open and public - hence if you want to write an emulator for that, all you can do is read the incoming and outgoing signals, if you have some electronics skillz.
