Podcast planning

I always viewed the podcast as a labor of love. I kind of looked at it like my baby. As we speak, I am shedding a few tears. I will always have fond memories and feelings for having worked on the podcast. It was truly an honor to have worked with such good folks as Tets, Ryu, Carlie, JT, Lex, Tenny, Lith, and Flint. I truly wish whoever takes over for the regular TLS podcast all the best.
Don't say that like it's over! I want you to stay on as the retrospective podcast host and maybe at some point in the future you can come back to the regular show as well. Never say never.

I think all the people you mentioned, myself included, appreciate what you did in getting this off the ground and all the hard work you put in afterwards. You were and are a very good host, too. :)

Yeah, sorry, I probably should clarify. I meant that in a way of saying goodbye for now to the regular TLS Podcast. :) I was just feeling a bit emotional and sentimental. I am more than happy to carry on with the Retrospective series for now. Perhaps someday when things finally get back on the right track personally, I can return to a more active duty on the regular TLS Podcast.

I truly appreciate your sentiments Flint. It really does mean the world to me.

Reposting my edit since you wouldn't have seen. Sorry a lot going on over here right now: Having been ableto read this a bit better I don't think anybody was suggesting strongarming you out, nor are we unhappy with you. I mean I for one can't imagine the pod without you. But you'd been mentioning you've been having issues and we wanted to just get you some help, maybe make it easier on all involved.

Yeah, I don't feel that you guys are trying to strongarm me out at all. I totally understand. I have definitely been absent and, therefore, not able to perform my duties as regular podcast host. As I stated, I am in complete agreement that we should divide the regular TLS Podcast and the Retrospective into 2 separate entities. The regular TLS podcast deserves some new folks that can put the time and love into it that it requires and deserves. Perhaps someday I can return to it.

In the meantime, I am happy to carry on as the regular host for the Retrospective series. I do have the time for it because it takes time for us to actually play through the games. We can put these out at pretty much our leisure. Not saying that we should be super lax about it but we don't have to be on as tight a schedule as the regular TLS podcast.

I am all for trying to ease the burden on folks. I'm certain Tenny is feeling overloaded. In fact, let me just throw out my gratitude to Tenny for taking on the editing job. It can be a total bitch and it is a MAJOR time suck. That's why I asked for help with it when I did. It was just starting to be too much. Tenny, know that I am very thankful for you taking on the editing job.

Forgot to answer this:

Any interest in doing a pre E3 minicast?

Who would be interested in doing a post E3 & Stormblood early impressions Friday, Saturday or Sunday?

Sorry, Carlie, I haven't been on TLS in recent weeks due to my summer class and I missed these posts. However, it looks like I am not the only one. A mini E3 Podcast would have been ideal for playing around with meet times. It could have been what, an hour long maybe? Why did this not happen?

I think maybe because SE was massively underwhelming at E3 this year there just wasn't a lot of interest in doing a minicast. But yeah doing one would've been a good idea. Also Tenny I know your busy with school don't worry about it. :)

I will say again that since I'm done with school I can help with the editing of the regular podcasts.

Right now there's a couple of topics we can do with the regular podcasts; latest news with KHIII new trailer, wtf is going on with the remake and a TZA early impressions etc. A Stormblood review and maybe an Episode Prompto review.

Yeah, I'm thinking we could try to do a podcast next week. We just need to pick a host. :P I have a feeling I'm going to end up doing it, which is fine, but it's a shame nobody has suggested anyone or come forward themselves.

I've set up an interest form for those of you who would like to appear on the podcast in the future. It should only take 10 minutes to fill out, and don't worry too much about what you write, because we'll just talk on voice chat later anyway. :)

I'm not promising everyone who fills out the form a spot on the podcast, just trying to gauge interest and find out what people think they can bring to the show. I'd like us to keep to about four or five people per episode, of which probably three will be regulars, with the remaining slots filled with guests chosen for their interest or expertise in whatever we're discussing that week.

Also, can the Lost Episode go up now?

Edit: To those of you who have been on the show before, I apologise if this feels like asking you to reapply for your own job. The only mandatory questions on the form are your name and availability, so I'd appreciate it if you could at least submit those for organisational purposes. Thanks.

I'm down with the episode going up and will fill that out.

I've started putting together some show notes for recording next weekend. If you'd like to appear, please fill out the interest form I mentioned before. Here's the link again. Three people have expressed an interest so far.

You can upload it through Wordpress (or at least you should be able to; I'll have to look into it if you can't). This is the page you want.

Okay, so, I just attempted to upload and got an error message saying the files are too big. I think the podcasts usually just get uploaded to YouTube the a video is embedded on the front page. I can't upload to the YouTube channel. Maybe we can ask Ryu what he normally does.

I can always PM peeps a download link to Google Drive.

I can stick it on YouTube when I get home in a few hours. You can pm me with the link. I'm not sure about putting the audio file on the site

Okay, link sent.

Everyone else: how should any post/description be worded? How do we present this?

"We hold these truths to be self evident that not all podcasts are created equal, and they are endowed by their creators certain inalienable complications; time, manpower and technical fuckery. Sometimes things fall through the cracks, sometimes in our efforts to provide the most up-to-date information on Final Fantasy the real world gets in our way. However, so as to not let these efforts of all involved go to waste, we have chosen to present this podcast in its completed form far later than we intended to. With that in mind, please enjoy this 'Lost Episode' of The Lifestream Final Fantasy Podcast."

Edit: Or smth like that, honestly my brand of snarkiness is probably best left for Editorials. Leave the fancy words for the professional social media-ers like Pixel and Joe(were he here). :monster:

People use Audacity without LAME? :closedmonster:

Tennyo, step your game up buddy :awesome:

It's important that we upload the actual sound file to our server as well as provide a YouTube link. It's what we've always done in the past. The wording can follow the same template as all the previous posts – see here, for example. I'll probably tweak it a bit going forward.

Edit: I guess we should make note of the big delay. I can write something but we've gotta get it uploaded first.

Yikes its a 2.8 gig wav file :/ Are you able to export as an mp3, about 128kb/s. Should make the file a lot smaller. Wav is uncompressed

You may have to get the LAME mp3 encoder
http://www.audacityteam.org/download/windows/

I did both WAV and MP3. I could have sworn my computer said the MP3 was 2.8 gigs and the WAV was 153 MB but you're right, that doesn't even make sense.

I was tired. >_>

I'll get you the other file tonight.

Uploading to youtube now. I just wrote a simple description, but I'll change it to whatever you write on the site article.
The Lost Episode: FFXV Review
This podcast was recorded months ago. We had huge technical issues recording this episode, making it very dificult to edit.

The podcast has been on hiatus for a while, due to IRL stuff, but hopefully we can get it back on track soon.

In this episode, Ryu, Tenny, Carlie and Lith discuss their impressions of Final Fantasy XV.

The audio levels seem really uneven. Im guessing thats due to technical issues. I would try to even it out, but it would take too long and I CBA :P

Here's the thumbnail I used if you want it

I'm responding here because transparency and all that.

I'm definitely not free this weekend. Short story is one of my coworkers bitched out and we've had to rearrange the schedule to where I am now coming in an extra night during the weekend and it's one hell of a mess finding staff here and a babysitter at home for my daughter (cause my wife works this weekend).

So, sorry about that, but suffice to say shit's well beyond my control. :closedmonster:

@Pixel: That thumbnail is gorgeous.

Do you want me to tinker with the levels a bit?

@JT: aww, maybe next time?

Has the podcast audio been uploaded to our server yet? As I said, it's important to include it so that people can download it or listen to it directly through iTunes or an RSS feed reader. Particularly so on mobiles where you can't listen to something on Youtube in the background without using a third-party app.

Im waiting for that before facebooking it. Youtube has always been a secondary destination for it.
